I originally hail from Toronto, where 35 years ago I was employed right after college as a radio station helicopter pilot and TV broadcaster. I traveled to California for the first time back then to attend a helicopter convention and decided that San Francisco would be my new home. Fortunately, Stanford admitted me to their graduate business school and I've lived in the Bay Area ever since. I'm passionate about the arts, love to read and I'm a huge Jazz fan, having seen most of the great performers as they've come through San Francisco over the years.

I love this country, the diversity of its people and their incredible generosity. I was heartbroken by the country's shift to right wing extremism with all of its pettiness and belligerence over the past eight years. It was so completely out of character with the America I had come to know and admire. Sometime during that dark period I found the Daily Kos blog and started to read about an impressive long shot by the name of Barack Obama. I followed his rise to Democratic Party Nominee and was so excited by what I saw as a new course for America that I became involved as a volunteer for his campaign. Phone banking has provided me with a tremendous window into the hearts and souls of a wide variety of citizens in other states. I'm encouraged by the overwhelming desire for change expressed by both Democrats and Republicans alike and the ongoing grass roots efforts to make that change happen. I had never done much volunteer work before this inspiration and now I'm hooked!

My thanks to all of you out there who are working for this transformation. After all, America's motto is "Can Do".
