I'm 55 years old and married. I live and work in Alameda, CA which is an island between San Francisco and Oakland, CA. We have the Alameda Coast Guard Station and the closed Alameda Naval Base. I have two cats and ride my bike to work every day. I am a new junkie, subscribing to nine national and four foriegn newspapers online. I also get alerts and headlines from sites like this one, Alternet.org, Buzzflash.com, Daily Kos, Progressive Daily Beacon and Consortiumnews.org When I exhaust all these, There are several other sites I will drop in on. I make it my duty to see to it that everyone at the office where I've worked for the past 15 years is up to date on the news and latest political scandle.I got my boss to buy a flat screen television so we could have 24/7 news in our conference room when it's not in use. My first published op-ed was on the subject of the toxic clean up of the naval base when they closed it. The government was leaving the mess saying our city could pick up the cost since we wanted to develope the land. USA Today ran it. Proud moment. I drive my husband crazy yelling at the likes of Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly which I force myself to watch on occasion just to find out what the wingnuts are up to. I'm a big fan of Keith Olbermann's program Countdown and I watch all three CSpan channels. I belong to the Sierra Club, Wilderness Society, ASPCA and the Humane Society.I also read a lot. Mostly non fiction but when I need an escape I'll go for an old fashioned romance novel. I just finished "Imperial Life in the Emerald City, Life inside Iraq's green Zone.
