I am very concerned about the future of our country and the erosion of our democracy over the past 30 years. Our democratic republic has been usurped by a plutocracy - rule by the wealthy - that has a stranglehold on our government - a political, two-party duopoly who, in turn, have a stranglehold on the American people.
As a result, rather than government of the people, by the people, for the people, we have government of the people, by the political duopoly, for the benefit of the wealthy plutocracy.
We are supposed to be a nation of equal opportunity, but that, too has vanished as a result of the drastically unequal distribution of wealth in our country.
We must get money out of politics and demand that our politicians serve the people instead of themselves, their political party, and the big-money interests. Then, maybe we can reclaim our status as a democracy, and the American Dream can live once again.
