Is Health Care A Commodity Or Right?
Currently, in the United States, health care is a commodity, and the profiteers are going wild. Since passage of the ACA, major health insurance company stock values have quadrupled. And they are never satisfied.

People have experienced a series of extreme storms -- Hurricanes Harvey, Katrina and Sandy being the most notable this century -- droughts, fires and other physical evidence that make it hard to deny climate catastrophe. Climate denialism requires shutting one's eyes to obvious realities when the truth is the Earth is warmer than it has been in 120,000 years.

As US Empire Fails, Trump Enters a Quagmire
A quagmire is defined as a complex or unpleasant position that is difficult to escape. President Trump's recently announced war plans in Afghanistan maintain that quagmire. They come at a time when US Empire is failing and its leadership in the world is weakening. The US will learn what other empires have learned, "Afghanistan is the graveyard of empires."

When Empires Fall
In a new book, "In the Shadows of the American Century: The Rise and Decline of US Global Power," historian Alfred McCoy predicts that US empire is ending and will be over in the next decade. Even now he says the "United States can no longer dictate to the world, or at least much of the world, like we could back in the 1950s." He predicts that by 2030 US empire will be finished.

Power Dynamics Changing In World Order
The G-20 summit highlighted a transition in geopolitical power that has been developing for years. The process has escalated in recent months since President Trump took office, but its roots go much deeper than Trump. The United States is losing power, a multi-polar world is taking shape and people power is on the rise.

Corbyn Teaches to Embrace Change We Need
Corbyn teaches that we should embrace the radical transformational change that is needed, whether in elections or as a movement, to inspire people to take action and shift the realm of the possible. The people thirst for change as their economic situation becomes more insecure. There needs to be a movement that addresses that insecurity through a human rights lens, or insecurity will be channeled towards hatred and violence.
The TPP is Dead: The People Defeat Transnational Corporate Power
the defeat of the TPP is a tremendous victory that should propel us forward. It shows organized people have power even in the US oligarchy. We need to build on this power, continue our unity as a movement of movements and demand that the people's agenda becomes the political agenda,

To Understand the Presidential Primaries, Recognize the Impact of Movements
The independent nature of U.S. voters is not reflected in elections, which makes it very difficult for alternatives to the duopoly to participate. At the same time, elections are funded by a shrinking group of the extremely wealthy. The U.S. is now widely recognized as an oligarchy, where big business and moneyed interests rule, and where democracy is a mirage.

Spread The Word: TPP Is Toxic Political Poison That Politicians Should Avoid
Since the TPP is "Toxic Political Poison," an election year is not when they wanted to consider it. The corporate traders were required to compromise to pass fast track. One key compromise was making the text of the agreement public for 60 days before Congress considers it. This is a tremendous opportunity to educate and mobilize people.

The 'US Way of War' from Columbus to Kunduz
The confluence of Columbus Day Weekend and the Kunduz hospital bombing has us thinking about the deep levels of cultural violence in the United States and what can be done to change it. How does the US move from a country dominated by war culture to one dominated by a humanitarian culture?

The Revolution Of Values
The visit of Pope Francis to the United States, speaking to both the US Congress and the UN General Assembly, placed the moral foundation of policy front and center in the public dialogue. It is important for the social movement to be based on values that show our moral and ethical character to put forward a positive vision for the future that will have widespread support.

Not Over Yet, Some Tough Votes Ahead On Fast Track
it is not over. Speaker Boehner called for reconsideration of TAA and a re-vote is supposed to happen within two legislative days so there may be another vote as early as Monday afternoon. We need to hold the line on TAA to prevent any form of TAA from passing the House and prepare for a vote in the Senate if a new form of TAA passes or if the TPA bill passed in the House goes back to the Senate without TAA.
Time To Stand Up To The NYPD
Stop the NYPD Coup and Create the Police-Community Relationship We Want to See
Do the police serve the city or are they a law unto themselves? This is an issue of concern throughout the country but it has come into crisp focus in New York.

The Movement Can Begin the Year With a Major Victory Over Corporate Power
We have an immediate challenge in 2015 that threatens our progress. Obama and Congress are pushing to finalize the Trans-Pacific Partnership. If we don't stop it, our struggles will be set back and social, economic and environmental justice will be more difficult to achieve. But we can defeat the corporate powers that exploit our communities if we unite and work together and doing so will strengthen us greatly.
Message To Democratic Party: It's Time To Face Reality
After getting clobbered on Nov. 4, the Democratic Party needs to ask itself some tough questions and come up with honest answers. If it doesn't, it's going to continue to lose elections because it lacks credibility with its own voter base.

Hong Kong Protests: Now The Hard Part, Kick Out The US, Build National Consensus
Now that the US has been exposed, it needs to be removed. US goals are very different than the people in Hong Kong. The US is in the process of encircling China militarily and economically. It sees China as a competitor, a nation that can undermine the US as the single world superpower. Conflict between Hong Kong and Beijing would serve US interests but undermine the Hong Kong economy which is tied to China.

US Empire Reaches Breaking Point - Time To End It
The people of the United States must work to end the interventionist violence of the U.S. Empire.
This is Part I of a two part series on American Empire. Part II will focus on the Empire Economy and his it is failing to work for most Americans as well as most people of the world.
TPP Toxicity Grows, We Can Stop It
The White House is calling Janaury “TPA (Trade Promotion Authority) Month” and has made it their task to pass Fast Track. President Obama needs Fast Track to pass the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). When Congress returned this month, a bill was quickly introduced after delays of more than a year. The lies begin with title of the bill: “The Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities Act of 2014.” Bi-partisan?

The Obama Apology That Is Needed
I apologize for the results of my efforts in reforming US healthcare. It is now evident from the roll-out and the technical problems that have been exposed that we have created a complex system in which these types of problems will exist, not just at the beginning in the setting up of a website to sell health insurance, but as the law takes full effect.

Obama should seek legal prosecution, not illegal war
An attack by the United States on Syria would almost certainly result in civilian casualties with great potential of a wider war and unpredictable consequences. Aerial bombardment is a diffuse tool not targeted on stopping the alleged use of chemical weapons, but a blunt act of war that will cause widespread harm.
Fiscal Cliff Over, Now the Attack on the People Begins
Budget debates are how government sets its priorities and the fiscal cliff package shows where government's priorities are: low taxes on the wealthy and corporations, giveaways to business and take-aways from the American people. People can expect much worse in the months to come unless they get organized and mobilize against austerity in a big way.
The People Must Lead the Way to Save the Planet
For decades the U.S. has been the leader in producing more carbon emissions per capita than any other country. But it denies historical responsibility and refuses to provide assistance to poor countries struggling with the impact of climate change or take the necessary steps to protect the people and planet, instead it seeks to blame China.
Cracks in the Pillars of Power
We're beginning to see cracks in the power structure -- Wall Street banksters are criticizing each other and acknowledging their misbehavior has made them untrustworthy to most of the public. Occupy pressure has been one reason why. We need to keep the pressure on and break these cracks open further by a combination of protest and building a new economy.
Real Health Care Advocates Should Support Repeal of the Insurance Mandate
Real health care reform advocates should oppose the Obama-law insurance mandate. It is unconstitutional and bad policy to force Americans to buy a corporate product, especially flawed health insurance. If the president and Congress dropped to words from the Medicare law "over 65" we would have had health care for all and controlled costs.

A Warning To The Economic And Political Elites: Listen Now
The Occupy Movement is in its early stages and will grow. Plans are being made for next steps. The elites should heed the message: End Corporate Rule, Shift Power to the People. If they fail to do so the demands will become stronger.
October2011 Movement Urges Solidarity with Oil Pipeline Tar Sands Protesters
The Stop the Pipeline!-The Tar Sands Action ongoing in Washington, DC deserves the support of all of us. The protest has gotten the attention of the White House as they mistreated protesters arrested on the first day. President Obama would have liked to quietly approve the pipeline but climate activists are making that impossible. The October2011 Movement is urging people to join them.
