The War Party Lost the GOP Debate
What we are seeing is a rising tide of disgust with our policy of global intervention -- in a confused inchoate sense, in the case of Trump, and in a focused, self-conscious, occasionally eloquent and yet still slightly confused and inconsistent way in the case of Sen. Paul. Either way, the real voice of the American heartland is being heard.

Not Sorry Enough: Tony Blair Apologizes for Iraq War "Mistakes"
Tony Blair says he's sorry. It only took him 12 years to own up, but hey -- it's better than what's happening on this side of the Atlantic, where not one word of apology to the relatives and loved ones of those who died -- never mind the nation at large, or the Iraqi people -- has been uttered by the architects of the Iraq war.

Trump vs. Jeb
While Jeb may believe attacking his brother is a mistake Trump will come to regret--the reality is that Trump has hit a nerve. And he dug the stiletto in deeper when he tweeted a New York Times op ed piece pointing out that George W. Bush had plenty of warning before 9/11 that something big was in the works.

Switching Sides in the "War on Terrorism"
The enemy is no longer the jhadists -- the ones who took down the World Trade Center and attacked the Pentagon -- it's now the Russians, and the secular Syrian government, along with Iran and Hezbollah. So a "war on terrorism" that began with an attack by al Qaeda on American territory, one which struck at the very heart of Manhattan, has ended up arming the very people who murdered 3,000 people that fateful autumn morning.

War Party Hates Putin -- Loves al-Qaeda
The cloud of propaganda hovering over events in Syria gets thicker by the minute, but it's possible to see the reality of what's occurring if we remember one thing: our former enemies -- al-Qaeda and its imitators -- are now Washington's allies. However, we have to ask, as Putin did at the UN: "Who's playing who here?"

The Long Road From 9/11
Patrick Clawson and his crowd have lost the tug-of-war with the pro-American faction of the foreign policy establishment: that's the significance of the Iran deal, and its importance should not be underestimated. This is a tipping point, a real sea-change -- but the neocons never give up, and they never give an inch. We underestimate them at our peril.

Politics 2016: Who Will Stand Up to the War Party?
It's hard for people to stand up to popular sentiment, especially in wartime. It is especially hard for politicians, and others in the political realm -- pundits, party officials, and activists. And yet some have been willing to pay the price and stand up for principle: cowardice isn't a necessary requirement for a career in politics.

Imperial America -- Or: Have we gone crazy?
Disengaged yet disgruntled, kept down and yet increasingly uppity, average Americans are both apathetic and angry when it comes to politics. They are ready for someone who simultaneously entertains and entrances them with the prospect of an American Caesar.

Chelsea Manning and Hillary Clinton: A Case of Double Standards
Chelsea is being left to rot in jail, subjected to the harassment and cruelty of her jailers, while Hillary routinely flies around in a private jet, lying to the American people and refusing to answer questions from reporters. That's "justice," American-style, circa 2015.

The Liberation of US Foreign Policy
The backlash against our Israel-centric foreign policy has been a long time coming, and that it is now being given expression by the President of the United States is significant beyond measure. The Lobby recognizes this fact, which is why they're spending many millions, and calling in all their chits, in an all-out effort to defeat the Iran deal.

In Washington, War Is Peace
The USIP is today a neoconservative stronghold, a permanent niche for this secretive and powerful clique to push its agenda of perpetual war in the name of "peace." It is an institution that could only exist in the Washington of 2015: a federal agency supposedly devoted to "peace" that spends its resources pushing for US intervention on a global scale. It's high time for this scam to be eliminated.

Rand Paul: Fraud, Failure, Liar
Rand-ism sends the following message: We're against "big government," and even government spying on Americans, but don't worry, all you Fox News enthusiasts out there, we're not averse to bombing the sh*t out of helpless civilians when the occasion calls for it.

Bibi's Bombast Bamboozles Boehner
Netanyahu announced that the Israeli cabinet had voted unanimously against the Iran deal -- a proclamation of resounding presumption, since the Jewish state was not a party to the agreement. He went on to say that Israel reserves the right to "defend itself," a not-so-subtle threat to launch a first strike against Tehran: "We have strength, and it is great and mighty," he said.

Chris Christie for President? Or: The Sopranos Go to Washington
Christie said, "I'm good at getting attention" -- and that's all he's really after. His bloated persona -- a caricature of the cocksure New Jersey borderline thug -- thrives on drama for its own sake. In short, it's all about him -- and you can just forget about the facts. The governor of a state where violent crime is skyrocketing, home foreclosures are up, and corruption is a way of life is no friend of the factual.

Nuke Russia? The warlords of Washington haven't ruled it out
The US, while sending only a few hundred "advisers" to Iraq, is sending a huge shipment of tanks and other heavy weaponry to nearly every country in Eastern Europe -- enough to equip 5,000 American troops. Ostensibly proposed in response to a nonexistent Russian "threat" to invade its Baltic neighbors, this represents a significant escalation of the new cold war.
The goal is to isolate Russia, both economically and politically, and eventually move the West's regime change operation into the Russian heartland, restoring the rule of the oligarchs -- their oligarchs, as opposed to Putin's -- and silencing the Russian leader's trenchant critique of US hegemonism.

Lessons of the Vietnam War...We haven't learned them
The lessons of Vietnam, and of the cold war generally, haven't been learned by our political elites for the simple reason that they don't want to know about anything that contradicts their dogmatic worldview. That conception of how the world works is rooted in their own little careers, and the colossal conceit that is the hallmark of elite culture in this country.

Who Hacked the White House?
The new cold war with Russia is upon us, and the rule is: when in doubt, blame Putin. Our technologically ignorant -- and government-subservient -- media is all too prone to fall for this nonsense. While I wouldn't rule out anyone -- including some of our vaunted "allies" -- as being responsible, in this case I'd look at the knee-jerk accusations aimed at the Kremlin with a very jaundiced eye.

Espionage, Treason, and the Congressional Fifth Column
Israelis penetrated our communications, and used other means -- including "informants" presumably inside the U.S. government -- to uncover details about the emerging deal with Iran, and then passed this information on, perhaps indirectly, to their congressional fifth column, including presidential aspirants Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul, all of whom then signed on to Sen. Tom Cotton's "open letter" to Tehran.

Bibi Wants War
Bibi's problem is that he wants war, and Americans want peace. Efforts to get Joe Sixpack riled up over the "existential threat" allegedly embodied by Iran have run into war-weariness -- and, to be sure, an Israel-weariness that really began to show up after the last attack on Gaza, where the news accounts of children under fire from Israeli war planes brought home for the first time the ugliness of the Israeli occupation.

Who Killed Boris Nemtsov?
Who killed Boris Nemtsov? The answer is: we don't know, at least not at this point, and one can only marvel at the investigative prowess of talking heads who "solved" this crime from a distance of several thousand miles, hours after it occurred. The mythology built up around Nemtsov and his death will certainly eclipse the truth, at least here in the West -- where "narrative" trumps truth in every instance.

"Holy Schnikes," It's Jeb Bush!
We're for "freedom" -- except when it comes to spying on Americans, who must be watched by Big Brother government 24/7. So we must have "liberty diplomacy," as Jeb puts it, around the world, but liberty at home -- forget it, brother! Jeb Bush, despite his last name and all the money he's raising, is not ready for prime time, especially when it comes to foreign policy.

Bibi Netanyahu and the Myth of the "Special Relationship"
A frank informational one-on-one talk with the American people would do wonders to break up the Israeli fifth column on Capitol Hill. The mindless pro-Israel-at-any-price consensus in American politics is heading for a crack up. The question is: does the President of the United States have the guts to press his advantage and -- for once -- put America's interests first?

The Great Iran Debate
The Israel lobby is powerful, but it is operating at a disadvantage: the American people support efforts to come to terms with Iran short of war. They don't want another conflict in the Middle East, as much as the neocons pine for it. Whether ordinary Americans will rise up and raise their voices in time to defeat the saboteurs of peace is an open question: alerting them to the danger is our job, and I hope we are up to it.

The Sony Hack Fraud
The technical "evidence" supporting the narrative woven by those geniuses in Washington is rubbish. Yet they are still sticking by it -- because, after all, government officials can never admit they were wrong. Especially since the President of the United States went out on a very thin limb and vowed to retaliate against North Korea -- a pledge apparently carried out a few days ago.

The Constitution's Pearl Harbor
All pretenses have been dropped. The idea that the government must answer in court to the charge that it is overstepping its constitutional authority has been overthrown -- and with it our old republic. Citizens have become subjects -- and all with the stroke of a pen.

Israel -- America's Biggest Frenemy
The Israel lobby is losing its grip: the American people -- previously inclined to support Israel no matter what -- show signs of waking up to the danger posed by our Israel-centric foreign policy. Israel today is a tyranny on the order of the old South Africa, with one added factor: they are armed with nuclear weapons.

Iraq's Slippery Slope
We are sliding down the Iraqi slope pretty rapidly. Hardly a week goes by when we don't hear of another few hundred GIs being quietly shipped to Iraq -- "non-combat" troops, to be sure. Yes, they're going over there to engage in some pretty dangerous and potentially lethal "non-combat" -- and when they start getting killed in numbers high enough to notice, will they come back in non-bodybags?

Who Leaked the Obama-Khamenei Letter?
For an administration that has put so much emphasis on hunting down "leakers," it's pretty amazing how leaky Washington gets when it comes to matters of concern to the Israelis. Take the recent Wall Street Journal story on President's Obama's alleged letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. How did the Journal get their hands on it?

Do We Have a Foreign Policy? You Bet We Do ...
The Obama administration extended the biggest expansionist push in the history of the world into North Africa with the regime change operation in Libya, and later Syria. Somalia was attacked, our alliance with the murderous ruler of Ethiopia was buttressed, and Africom was beefed up considerably in anticipation of future interventions. All this from a President who had been elected as a "peace" candidate!

The Chicken*hit Lobby Is Mad As Hell
The Chickenshit Lobby, otherwise known as Israel's amen corner in the US, is mad as hell -- but just how mad are they? I don't know the answer to that question, but as the prospect of a peace agreement with Iran looms larger, those whose job it is to protect the President need to take this potential threat seriously. As we've seen recently, the White House isn't exactly an impregnable fortress.

The number one hate object is Vladimir Putin, who is regularly characterized as either the reincarnation of Stalin, the second coming of Hitler or, preferably, both. That's because he doesn't recognize the implications of Russia's defeat in the cold war and still seems to think his opinions amount to something in the brave new unipolar world Washington is building.

Anarchy in Washington: Is Anybody in Charge?
The public opposes troops on the ground -- and so the President sticks that in his "plan." The political elites want to aid the Syrian rebels, so he sticks that in there, too. A general who knows better tells the country the truth: it will take ground troops to accomplish the mission. Yet the mission being accomplished is beside the point -- because the real mission is winning the hearts and minds of the American people.

Hoaxes, Hype, and Hysteria
Speaking of hoaxes, here's a biggie: they're telling us that the long-awaited Russian invasion of eastern Ukraine has finally arrived! Yay! You can almost hear the sigh of relief all the way from Washington. The War Party's journalistic camarilla -- which has been telling us for the past six months or so that Putin's move was "imminent" -- yelped "we told you so!"

Iraq: The "Humanitarian Catastrophe" That Petered Out
It's been over 60 days since the Obama administration first notified Congress of the President's intent to send troops back into Iraq -- past the deadline set by the War Powers Act that is supposed to trigger either a vote in Congress or withdrawal. Where is Congress? On vacation -- not only from their jobs, but from reality.

Israel, Genocide, and the "Logic" of Zionism
While we have gotten quite used to the sight of Israel conducting a shooting-gallery "war" in the open air prison that is Gaza, there is something new about this latest exhibition of state terrorism. There is a kind of murderous glee in the Israeli leadership's inversion of all moral and international legal standards in its conduct of this "war."

Pro-Israel Media Bias: It's As Easy As ABC
There comes a point when the myth and the reality are so dissonant that the result is what happened with Diane Sawyer's "error": as Israeli jets rained death on Gaza, the Sawyerian mind transmuted the image into its exact opposite, and -- presto change-o! -- those Palestinians dragging a mattress across the rubble became Israelis.

Political Correctness and Imperialism
By conducting a "war on intolerance" in the same arrogant manner in which we wage our endless "war on terrorism," we are reaping a whirlwind of resentment--and whipping up the very hatred we claim to be fighting. The crazy idea that we can go around the world uprooting the traditions of thousands of years is a constant. It's not only crazy, it represents a threat to our liberty, our prosperity, and the peace of the world.

Iraq: Will the Neocons Get Away With It Again?
A full-scale campaign to restart the Iraq war is now underway. The effort is all too apparent among the neoconservatives, the original authors of this disastrous adventure, with Bill Kristol & Co. not only demanding air strikes -- which the Obama administration is contemplating -- but also troops on the ground.

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl: Prisoner of the War Party
It's hard to believe any decent human being would even consider putting Bergdahl through more trauma than he's already endured -- but in the case of the War Party, we aren't talking about decent people. They will argue that no individual "insider," whether a private in the Army or a top level technologist for the NSA, has the moral right to obey their conscience when it conflicts with their orders.

Greenwald Against the Establishment
Again and again, Greenwald comes back to the issue of our subservient media and how the complicity of editors and reporters allows Washington -- and other Western governments -- to get away with their crimes. They obey the unwritten rules of Establishment journalism. "Fear-driven obsequious journalism" -- that's what he calls it, and that's what it is.

Utah -- Achilles' Heel of the Surveillance State
This burgeoning nationwide movement to liberate us from the NSA's unwanted embrace isn't going to be stopped by some harebrained conspiracy theory. The American people, no matter what their politics, have had enough, not only of the NSA but of an intellectually bankrupt "progressive" movement that has sold its soul to James Clapper.

Demand An Unconditional Pardon for Edward Snowden
In a rational world, there would be no question about the moral and legal status of the man responsible for exposing this treason to the Constitution: he would be hailed as a hero by every sector of society, from the political class to the working class, and given the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Look What's Under My Christmas Tree!
Hardly a day goes by without us benefiting from Snowden's largesse, the chief perk being the sight of the entire political Establishment -- not only the corrupt politicians but their equally venal servants in the "mainstream" media -- in a veritable panic as the truth about America's evolving police state is revealed for all to see.

Goliath: The Book That May Delegitimize Israel's Apartheid State
This coarsening -- brutalization, really -- of Israeli society is something one imagines Leibowitz would have despised had he lived to see it. The mere fact that the Israelis routinely arrest and torture Palestinian children as young as eight should be enough to delegitimize the "Jewish state" in the eyes of the world -- that is, if enough eyes see it.

We're Never Leaving Afghanistan
Rather than ending the war, the Obama-Karzai pact institutionalizes it, making the occupation of Afghanistan a permanent feature of US military operations in the region. It even maps out a place for this new US colony in the annual budget, and there is no time limit on any of this: "2024 and beyond." From this quagmire there is to be no extrication -- that, in short, is the sum total of our great "victory" in Afghanistan.

Hands Off Glenn Greenwald!
Glenn Greenwald, the former lawyer-turned-blogger, now a world-famous journalist, whose incisive reporting on the story of how the National Security Agency has been spying on Americans' phone records, emails, and other online communications has roiled the Obama administration and started a fierce national debate over what kind of country we are -- and what kind of country we're turning into.

While Washington's wonks speculate back and forth as to how much advance notice Washington had of the coup-that-isn't-a-coup, the world's Muslims know it couldn't have happened without a green light from this administration -- that is, if it wasn't Washington's idea in the first place.
