Torture Works: Except Just not for Intelligence Gathering -- and Oh Yes, It's Unconstitutional President Trump declared during the Presidential campaign that he "would bring back" torture "because it works -- for intelligence gathering. He has repeated the threat upon taking office. Well, that is a position that has been extensively debunked over many years by many experts on intelligence gathering.

"Warning (Warnung, auch)" Trumpism demands acceptance or rejection, period. Only a social revolution can destroy the Trumpist state. Only an upheaval in which the political power of the economically-dominant sector of the ruling class is permanently broken by mass action from below can offer hope of weakening the grip upon the sources of power of the Trumpist state.

Trumped? It is likely not Trump himself who has made most of the picks, but rather the transition team under Pence's leadership -- has indeed loaded his cabinet with many top representatives of the dominant economic wing of the ruling class. It now has a control of the U.S. State unlike anything we have seen since March 3, 1933. This is the swamp on steroids.

The Repubs., the Religious Right, and the Criminalization of Religious Belief With a great flourish, the Dominionist Senator from Texas, Ted Cruz introduced his "First Amendment Defense Act" into the new Congress. His stated purpose is to protect the "freedom of religion" for persons who would like to prevent the Federal government from "retaliating against businesses or people who refuse service to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer individuals."

The Repubs.' New -- Old -- "New-Trumpian" Base: The Religious Right, Part 1 In every election from 1980 through 2012, win or lose, the Religious Right was a central part of the Republican base. But then came 2016 and the rise of you-know-who. Not exactly an ideal candidate with whom to woo the Religious Right: twice-divorced/thrice-married, a proudly boastful "lady's man," and a former Democrat who had supported abortion and gay rights.

A Trump Retrospective Not too many observers, including myself, thought he could win the Presidency. But hindsight is 20/20. Now, given the strength of his combination of bringing out into the open the Repubs' traditional racism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, and misogyny, and the many weaknesses of the Democratic Party and its candidate, it seems almost inevitable.

Trump and the Ruling Class By his appointments, Trump has very quickly provided the dominant sector of the ruling class full control of the Executive Branch. They also now have full control at the Congressional level and soon will have full control of the Supreme Court as well. And those folks certainly do not have any interest in meeting the needs of any segments of the U.S. working class, regardless of ethnicity.

The Dominant Sector of the Ruling Class Takes Full Control, Part I: A Brief History of the Ruling Class in the U.S. Trump wins. No one except perhaps his most die-hard supporters expected that. The Phony War, Trump, and the U.S. Ruling Class The Trumpites really did not expect to win the Presidency, although their hopes rose upon the interference in the election by FBI Director, William Comey. But win they did. Trump is nothing if not a clever marketer, particularly of himself and his name. Almost since the election he has been engaging in a Trumpian Phoney War while also making it very clear what the Trumpian Real War will be like, once he takes power.

In Honor of Fidel Cuba has become the only nation on Earth to establish socialism, without resorting to war with enemies both internal and external. Given that Cuba's most implacable foe is the most powerful capitalist country in the history of nation-states, and is, to the Florida Keys at least, only 90 miles away, for me this has to rank as his most remarkable achievement.

The "Iran Attack," Jan. 12, 2016: Whose False Flag, if any? The "Iran Attack on the U.S. Navy?" The timing, on the day of President Obama's last State of the Union Message, in which he is apparently going to feature the Iran Nuclear Deal as one of his major achievements, seems more than coincidental, at least to me? False flag, anyone?

The Democratic Party Debate, 12/19/15, and the GOP ebates were carefully arranged by the Clinton Campaign's de facto chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, otherwise known as the Chairwoman (sic) of the Democratic National Committee, to be at a time when the fewest people could possibly be watching. We would not want anything--like Bernie Sanders' candidacy, for example--to get in the way of the coronation of Hillary Rodham Clinton as the Democratic Party's nominee, would we?

Terrorism, US Politics, and the US Media in the United States, acts that can be described as "terroristic" such as "the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes," or "the use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a political goal" have one very peculiar characteristic. They have been done, or made to appear to have been done, by Muslims.

Trump, the Right-Ward Imperative, and the Republican Party The Republican Party has become the open captive of the Rightward Imperative. It is moving in a direction that is increasingly dangerous for the future of the country: one in which fascism could be imposed through Constitutional means.

A Set of Tweets, Over Time I post tweets on occasion, at the The Political Junkies tweet site. Since I am not limited to 118 characters after the URL (and I always start with a URL), I have edited them to make them more readable. Also, if anyone can explain to me how any URL is made by Twitter to fit into 22-24 characters, I would be very happy to know that.

The Modern Middle East Imperialist War III: What's it All About The United States is now in the midst of MMEI No. III. This one is rather more complicated, and not easy to figure out, since there seem to be so many sides involved, with shifting alliances, sometimes from month-to-month. this multi-pronged, multi-front battle has at its center Iran and the hatred of key Arab states and Turkey for it.

Fascism in the 21st Century: Part II The American media, conceits aside, in the complete hands of the corporate plutocracy, are simply one more propaganda platform -- perhaps the most effective -- to bolster and disseminate the prevailing capitalist ideology. The true left, minuscule in its media presence, forever fragmented and improvident in strategic regards, has nothing to respond with, no instruments with which to access the public debate.

The Fascist phoenix: Toward a basic taxonomy As income and wealth inequality increases, and as the ruling class further cements its control of the State through "Citizens United-facilitated campaign contributions," voter suppression, gerrymandering, and outright election theft, the question is whether full-fledged fascism will arise and if so, how it will be imposed and what form it will take.

Ben Carson Takes his Clothes off in Public: It's Not a Pretty Sight Here is a candidate for the Presidency of the United States quoting scripture to defend himself about his lack of knowledge about an issue of vital importance among the Cuban-American community in South Florida. Now we are getting there: using a Biblical passage to justify his lack of knowledge.

The GOP and the Rightward Imperative In the course of their debates, certain GOP candidates, especially Fiorina (who is really running for the Vice-Presidential nomination) try to burnish their Presidential credentials by showing "how hard they can go after Hillary." After all, it's a good way to avoid answering embarrassing questions.

Bridge of Spies (2015) It is made to appear that the spy plane flight by Francis Gary Powers was the first or one of the first of its kind. Actually, the program had been underway off and on for several years. The Soviets knew about it but had no weapon that could reach the very high-flying U-2s until they had the one that brought down Powers. Then, there is the acting, starring that grand actor-with-great-range, Tom Hanks.

Bernie Sanders' "Democratic Socialism" The true Left in the United States could use Bernie's platform to say to the workers and their allies, "we are going to need something quite different from the present form of state/government if we are ever going to catch up even with the still-capitalist countries of Europe."
