I am the mother of 3 school aged children who became active in working to Abolish Physical (Corporal) Punishment(Paddling with wooden boards) of children in schools without parental consent or notification with legal impunity (Legal in 21 states TODAY!) after a personal experience with my son's middle school. My local school district is, by law, responsible for the administration and operation of local schools. My husband and I have written to the local school board on 3 occasions and made a verbal/written presentation to our local school board's 7 elected representatives and Superitendent/Director at their board meeting and have received NO RESPONSE. We have been working for one year to raise awareness of this civil rights inequity and to Abolish the deliberate infliction of physical pain and suffering on children at school. Hitting children with paddles does not teach them appropriate behavior, but in fact, powerfully models physical violence/assault as the acceptable means of solving problems. The cost to ELIMINATE teachers' and school administrators' right to assault and batter schoolchildren is $0. Our family has great hope that President Obama and Secretary of U.S. Department of Education, Arne Duncan will TAKE ACTION to ensure that ALL children have equal educational access to a safe, healthy and supportive learning environment as provided by citizen tax dollars IMMEDIATELY!

Thank President Obama for Recognizing that Torture "Is Not Who We Are" Abolish Physical (Corporal) Punishment (Paddling) of Children in Schools Immediately! The deliberate infliction of physical pain and suffering intended to punish children is legal in 21 states Today and practiced for minor infractions without parental consent or notification with legal impunity! Hitting children with paddles powerfully models physical violence/assault as the acceptable means of solving problems.
