The right is spinning Obama as a "hard left" liberal. Fact is, most hard left liberals aren't satisfied with Obama's liberal credentials.
David Frum Characterizes Obama as A "Hard Left Winger" What a crock.
He asks Ed Schultz if there is any way that Obama has shown that he's not a hard left winger. Larry King cuts in that the country has moved left. But it's clear that the right will be working hard to portray Obama as a left wing extremist. Fact is, we on the left are settling for Obama, even though we know he really doesn't have progressive, "hard left" credentials. Then again, if he did, smarmy spinners like Frum would slam him even harder.
Funny thing is that Frum characterizes Obama's health plan as hard left, when we all know it's not universal single payer and doesn't even cover all citizens.
Then again, Frum seems to be bashing Obama and just cooing about Hillary. It's hard to tell. Does he really want people to think that his bashing Obama means he really wants Obama to run against or Hillary?
Regardless, the spin and smoky room clouds of politics are deep and thick for these primary times.
Maybe we on the left ought to be writing about how Obama is not liberal or progressive enough.
On the right, Rush Limbaugh is helping McCain, pretending he's not conservative enough. Maybe we ought to voice our opinions, that are real, that Obama is a guy we will have to settle for, even though he is disappointingly centrist. I encourage articles along these lines. Don't fake anything, but I know we have many readers who feel this. Let's get some articles out there that reflect that opinion.
Meanwhile, what do you think? I know there are plenty of readers who are ready to support Ralph Nader or Cynthia McKinney because Obama isn't liberal enough. Here's where you can say why you feel that way.
