Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, republican legislators, right wing talk show sops are all echoing the same message.

They're asking. Are you calling the president a liar? Are you saying he lied?

The answer is""he misled and deceived.

They say he had the same info as the democrats who voted for the war.

That's a total lie. He had a lot more info. He cancelled congressional access to reports from the CIA and then cherry picked what was released to the members of the congress.

The echo chamber uses old stale arguments. The world is safer without Saddam. BS. The world is less safe with the quagmire in Iraq.

They argue that the Democrats are politicizing the war. Damn right they are. It takes legislative action to force the war to come to a halt. Politicians must legislate.

They accuse the Democrats of rewriting history. They accuse the democrats of being dishonest, irresponsible. It's amazing how often the President and his surrogates accurately describe themselves when they accuse others.

The question is, how long will the right wing extremists who make up the bulk of the Republicans remain loyal to a desperate, corrupt, dishonest administration that has become a pariah, a distrusted, disrespected weight dragging the country down?

I think they've reached the PT Barnum moment when you can no longer fool the people.

The reports of Bush's boozing and losing his temper, abusing his staffers, lashing out, suggest that these desperation measures are likely responses to Bush demands that his inner guard, his "consiglieres" speak out for him, no matter how pathetically desperate they appear.

On CNN's Paula Zahn show, the right is represented by Armstrong Williams, an outed, widely reported on-the-take pundit who the Bush administration arranged to have paid with federal funds to promote some of their policies on his talk show. Of course, Zahn, in her typical stenographic journalism mode, fails to point out that he's already been tainted as a mouthpiece for Bush.

It's clear that the gauntlet of Bush attack-dog apologists are failing to convince anyone outside of the heaviest Koolaid drinkers. If anything, this series of attacks makes Bush and his team seem more desperate, more out of ideas, more and more removed from the truth and less deserving of trust.

It is time for the Democrats in congress to face their votes for war-- and to do it with outrage. They must declare that it was intentional deception, knowlingly misleading statements and cherrypicked information releases that treacherously led them to conclude they should to vote for war. They must declare that Bush withheld too much information on the bad quality of the intelligence that he released to them.

If a seller fails to tell a house buyer that there are things he knows is wrong with the house, the buyer has a right to recover damages. Bush knew his information was damaged, faulty. The Democrats have a real opportunity here to stand apart from the shell-shocked republicans. They can charge Bush with intentional deception, leaving the rubber-stamping right wing extremist republicans looking more and more like part of the problem rather than the solution. It should be a step towards impeaching Bush and Cheney.

The Republicans used impeachment to hector Bill Clinton, to distract him from accomplishing his agenda. I doubt they ever believed they had a real chance to eject him fromt he presidency. They did it to keep him distracted and dysfunctional.
