Philadelphia has changed for the worse since the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News got a new right wing owner. Many say they just read around the pro-Conservative format, but it makes a difference nevertheless.

No news of the peace tombstones on Independence Mall, instead a big spread on a protest of Donald Rumsfeld getting a medal at the Union League complete with prior coverage, and prominent display of the six Brandywine peace protesters, who protest at least one a week without any coverage. Then a two-state solution to the Iraq war, (nothing for the Sunnis they don't deserve a state). Two friends, who at times protested the war, actually thought it was a peace proposal. And of course constant reminders that the antiwar movement is disguised with Democrats, maybe hinting they might stay home and not vote. Kucinich, Ron Paul and Gravel never existed, much less any third party.

Near by the Delaware County Daily Times is amazingly good with more than a little Philadelphia coverage. Unfortunately the editorial page is not on the Internet. It actually had an editorial by Pam Africa. Most people get the Sunday Inquirer just to get the TV magazine. The Sunday Delco Times is cheaper, but unfortunately doesn’t have channel 35, which I guess doesn’t reach Delaware County. Let’s urge the Times Journal Newspapers to include Channel 35.

The Philadelphia Library system gets it fourth class two weeks late. And they won't accept me just picking copies from the newsstand and handing it to them until I manage to go though unbelievable red tape. It might me easier to have payed courier service.

A little gem is the Metro Newspapers. It’s European based without anti Left determination. It had decent but sparse Mumia coverage, and unfortunately reporters don't seem to work weekends or holidays, so only weekday protests seem to get coverage. Keep close contact of the email name on top of each page if you want to contact someone. Sending un-earmarked press releases to the general mail box is a waist of time. It comes on line usually between l and 2 am. But a local story can appear on line at any time.

There is a Philadelphia, NY City, and Boston Metro and good papers around the world. Unfortunately London is gossip and the Canadian papers not much better. Mexico Metros are good.

They have only one precious Voices editorial in each issue, many are jokes or sports, but a few are real gems. Often the same editorial is in all three metros, but sadly, an amazing editorial against oppressing children in school was only in the NY Metro.

I'm 61 years old, fear the computer even though I am stuck before the screen. I fear cyber-hacking by the government or vigilantes. Few activists know where each other live or even meet. So mail, email, phone calls and cyberbills secretively not (more...)
