Re: Devil of the Week for July 16
My sizzling scribes:
Hotter than hell, isn't it? But the heat wave can't compare with the hate wave. So let's get right to who's done the most to fan the flames of hell this week.
Ann Coulter: On July 14 a New York Times working stiff opened a white envelope without a return address and discovered white powder which later was found not to be anthrax. Also inside was a copy of the Times' controversial June 28 editorial which defended how the Times' had investigated Bush's surveillance programs. A columnist from Women's Wear Daily asked Ann Coulter if she still thought humorous her remarks about attacking The New York Times and executing the staff as traitors. Coulter responded: "So glad to hear that The New York Times got my letter and that your friend at the Times thinks I'm funny. Good luck in journalism and please send me your home address so we can stay in touch, too."
Jerry Falwell: "I will rebuke the State Department for any and every time it told Israel to stand down and show restraint."
Laura Ingrahm: Regarding Helen Thomas asking questions of White House Spokesperson Tony Snow, "Oh, come on, grandma, [Helen Thomas] I can't -- I can't -- I can't -- Grandma, grandma, you gotta stop. Was she in her rocker when she was asking those questions? That's my question . . . she should grab a couple of knitting needles and get to work . . . I think she's got to stop representing Hezbollah at the White House "
Rush Limbaugh: "I guarantee you, if you landed here from Mars and you watched the drive-by coverage of U.S. military personnel in Iraq versus the coverage of Hezbollah in the last couple of days, you would conclude Hezbollah is the good guys, according to the drive-by media."
Rush also said: "The militant pro-abortion crowd" is "behind" embryonic stem cell research "because you need abortions to get these [embryos]."
"We need to re-examine this whole term 'scientist . . . Global warming has become a scientific thing" merely because "nobody can question science . . . Science is all about politics, and science has been so wrong about so many things."
Bill O'Reilly: O'Reilly still won't allow Media Matters time on the Factor to answer his charges that they are unprincipled left-wing, bomb-throwing, lying, ankle-biting character assassins. He continues to call them "dedicated to "nefarious purposes." O'Reilly falsely claimed that Media Matters "give[s] directions to" the O'Reilly's home to "intimidate[] good people who may want to come into the public arena as politicians or commentators." Fair and balanced O'Reilly also called Media Matters "character assassins" and a "smear website."
Bill also said: "A lot of Jewish liberals . . . who basically feel that, you know, you don't have a right to go after terrorists because it's our fault, the United States' fault . . . And some say it's Israel's fault because we've been mean to them, therefore they have a right to do whatever they want -- behead people on camera, all this terrible stuff."
Michael Savage: On his radio program Savage said that Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah is a "good friend of the liberal left wing, the Michael Moore wing, the Barbara Boxer wing, the Ted Kennedy wing, the anti-American wing of the Democrat Party."
Savage said that "Barbara Boxer should be real happy today" and that "the American left is cheering today [because of Israeli casualties]. They'll probably break open the jug wine and cheer that Jews are dying, and that they're living and cowering in bomb shelters. One day, the 'Deutschland uber alles' may be played in Jerusalem, and the American left can tear off their masks once and for all and show themselves to be what they really are -- which is the Nazis of our time."
