As many others and I said back in 2002. It is important to note that "Sweet Oil", of which Iraq has the largest cache', has some startling production costs. Startling because the Production costs are off the charts, in the direction opposite from that which one might expect.
Ready? It costs, to bring TO THE PUMP, gasoline, $1.00-$1.50 a BARREL! That's right, not a gallon. But a BARREL!
American production expertise raises the barrel gallon content from 42-44.2 gallons per barrel. 19.8 gallons of which make auto fuel. The rest is priced by use. Auto fuel is marked up 8800 times. That is also correct: Eight thousand-eight hundred times! That is the PROFIT margin!
Each auto fuel gallon costs almost 9000 times less than we pay for it at the pump that is nine thousand Times. There is nothing else on the planet that makes that kind of profit. For less crime than that people are hung. That means that a gallon costs just TWO CENTS, after production and delivery. That is why Iraq could sell it to their citizens for $00.05 a gallon before the war! And why, right now, Venezuela is selling gas at the pump at $00.12 a gallon at the pump. Of course, they have course oil which costs a little more to process, less than a nickel more per BARREL.
I say nationalize the oil companies and turn production over to the Universities to manage.
