Republicans get fired up about Connecticut

The New York Times published an article that showed Joe Lieberman eight points ahead of his Democrat opponent Ned Lamont. After weeks of nail biting over Korea, Foley and Iraq, republicans celebrated the news like a bunch of Palestinians who just heard of a terrorist attack on America.

Lieberman's head is certainly bigger today than ever before. You can see it in his smug, smarmy, self-righteous, monotonous, blathering demeanor. The most disappointing aspect of Lieberman's ascent is the painful memory of how spineless and backstabbing a democrat he has been to our party ever since the Clinton days.

Politicians can be expected to cross the aisle from time to time depending on internal polling results and the political climate, but Lieberman alone has proved again and again that when the democrats are down he will be the first politician, let alone democrat, to kick them in the ribs.

Aside from his promise as someone who would actually stick to his guns in the Senate, voters initially liked Lamont during the primaries because he appears youthful and strapping. Lieberman has a pair of bananas where his chest should be. Lamont must revel in the attention of the camera. Every time voters see Lieberman between now and the elections they are going to be reminded of what an uninspiring, smug and self-interested career politician he really is.

Democrats loose against incumbents when they start to think. They invest their emotions into winning and become so dependent on it that they fail miserably to provoke attraction among voters. Champions are champions whether they win or loose. Champions, like Muhammad Ali, talk big, think big, act big, swing big and win big. Lamont will make Lieberman wet his pants if he really hops into the ring over the next four weeks.
