Bush's plan, evidently, has been to gradually morph from an elected president to a dictator. He wants to be the new King George. His strategy is to declare a "war on terror", and make the Commander-in-Chief position permanent. Psy-ops, psychological operations aimed at the American people, are a major part of the strategy.
Most of what I am going to describe has been done deliberately, with malice aforethought. It is therefore treason against the Constitution, and against the people he is supposed to be serving. "We the people" are the kings in this great nation. Sovereignty rests with us, and we delegate it to Congress, not to the president. His job is to carry out the laws our Representatives pass on our behalf.
We all know about the manipulation of the media, twisting of intelligence, the lying and hypocrisy that is so extreme as to be Orwellian in nature. This part of psy-ops is fairly obvious, and addresses the thinking, rational mind. It keeps the bloggers busy unraveling the tangled yarns, and ferreting out the truth. Even the Fox-news watchers appear to have awakened to the truth, judging by the results of the November election.
The next level of psy-ops addresses the need we all have to respect our leaders and consider them legitimate. A legitimate leader does not need to use force against his people, and Bush has kept the use of force against Americans to a minimum. He claims legitimacy under the Constitution by appearing to win elections, even though they are actually stolen.
He backs that up by declaring a perpetual state of war- on terror, not on another country- and thereby proclaiming himself Commander-in Chief in war time, able to use extraordinary, extra-Constitutional powers. This involves terrorizing the American public, with security threats, with the "shock and awe" of 9-11, with the ongoing fascist legislation. The Patriot Act, the wiretapping, Homeland Security, and the horrible Military Commission Act all derive from this premise. And the outgoing Congress went along with it. It looks as though the incoming Dems will also accept this lie, and thereby uphold Bush's "legitimacy".
We are NOT at war with any country. We are occupying Iraq and Afghanistan, having illegally invaded both those sovereign nations. Bush has no right to call himself the Commander-in Chief of a nation at war.
The deepest level of legitimacy has to do with a sense of righteousness, that the leader is anointed by God, or is carrying out the will of the people. Prime examples are Franklin Roosevelt, who united the country to fight the evil of Hitler, and JFK, who embodied the hopes of millions for a better future, and appealed to our higher nature.
The people of the US are appalled at what we have done to Iraq, terrified at the hatred we have stirred up against ourselves, worried about all the red ink spilling from the US treasury into the coffers of Halliburton and Carlisle, horrified at the blatant trumpeting of torture, etc. The rejection of what Bush has done was manifested in the election. We want Bush and Cheney out. We know now that they are not righteous, but evil.
Bush claims legitimacy as a Christian- the dominant religion of the USA. He even was anointed to become president by Pat Robertson when he started his campaign. He claims to be "born-again", and developed a strong electoral base of ardent campaign workers in this way.
Now people are seeing the wolf in sheep's clothing. Even the most fanatic members of the "moral majority" are wondering who Jesus would torture, who Jesus would bomb. Bush's "Christian" veneer is melting away.
Early on, Bush declared himself "the war president". How can he be godly? Jesus was the Prince of Peace. Degandawidah, who wrote the constitution for the Iroquois federation on which our Constitution is based, was called The Peacemaker.
He shall judge between the nations,
and impose terms on many peoples.
They shall beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks;
One nation shall not raise the sword against another,
nor shall they train for war again.

Bush has another way of maintaining a sense of legitimacy. He made a deal with the incoming Democratic Congress last May, that they would not challenge his legitimacy. We know this because all the Democratic candidates for Congress, incumbent and newbies, suddenly refused to talk about impeachment, and said that it's "not on the table". We don't know what other elements are in this deal, but so far Pelosi, Conyers and the rest are honoring their part of it.
By accepting Bush (and Cheney) as legitimate executives, Pelosi and the rest are reassuring the American public of his legitimacy. Many of us want the new Congress to vigorously challenge the right of both these men to hold office, and start impeachment proceedings at once. By not so doing, the Democrats are complicit with their lies and hypocrisy.
Bush and Cheney are the greatest enemies the Constitution has ever had. They are illegitimately in office on every level- stolen elections, lying wars, hypocritical "Christianity".
Impeachment is peaceful, legal and democratic. It is the duty of our Representatives to keep their oath of office, to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign AND DOMESTIC.
