But Obama does not do all he should to stoke that feeling in the hearts of Americans. If he spoke more vividly of how profoundly wrong-spirited America has been at the peak of the political power system, then he'd amplify that wave of the people's yearning for fundamental spiritual in the realm of power, and that amplified wave would care him upward still further.
He is too indirect and too restrained in his allusions for the audience he now needs to reach. He really has to find appropriate ways of reminding these new constituencies how bad it's been. Even if it is not spoken in anger and outrage, he has to remind us of how much spiritual ground America has to regain.
If this election gets decided on the basis of whether America has to make fundamental spiritual change, then Obama wins by a landslide. Obama must do more to help Americans get in touch with the spiritual stakes in the struggle he's waging to become president of the United States.
