Without Illusions, the Left Should Vote for Biden

This piece was reprinted by OpEdNews with permission or license. It may not be reproduced in any form without permission or license from the source.

The process of fascistization is accelerating. For progressives, this election is about choosing a more advantageous field upon which to wage battle. Without creating illusions about who he represents, the Left should vote Biden for President and support progressives in down-ballot races.

Is Trump a Mussolini-style fascist? Even though they look remarkably alike when posing from a balcony, chins up in the air, I think not. The Italian dictator was well-read and driven by political philosophy, as well as naked ambition. Trump has the ambition, but no real philosophy: he's just a talented con man.

The 45th President of the United States is a narcissistic megalomaniac who has "made a deal" with the far right. Steve Bannon, Opus Dei, and evangelical leaders whisper sweetly in his ear, "You are doing God's work; you are the chosen one." He is a useful vessel and a delusional fool.

Trump may be a buffoon, but the forces behind him are serious.

Many developments are driving a section of American elites toward a more overtly coercive and racist state: the pandemic and the depression that it's triggered, massive inequality and the growing awakening of American workers, the power of African American resistance to systemic racism and the broad support it has received, and China's rise as a world economic power. This section of the elite has been ascendant because "liberal" American capitalism is out of solutions. Had it not for the pandemic, Trump could be headed back to the White House. One can't rule out that he still might.

Obama's economic policies favored Wall St. and produced great income inequality. Desperation and frustration created conditions for strengthening fascist and racist ideas in segments of the working class and rural poor.

It tilled the soil for Trump.

So, if Biden is elected and continues Clinton-Obama-era pro-banker economic policies, he will set the table for a more dangerous version of Trump in 2024. Only a mass movement infused with a progressive vision can stop this from happening.

The oligarchy is aghast at the success of the Sanders campaign and the wave of progressives recently elected to office. They fear increasing public support for socialized solutions like Medicare for All, publicly owned banks, community control of the police, and a growing consciousness that some form of socialism is a viable alternative.

Trump frames his campaign as a fight against socialism not only to invoke the ghosts of Cold War anti-communism for what he hopes is electoral gain. It's also a recognition by the ideologues that guide him that public opinion must be prepared for a severe attack on the Left.

If Trump wins, a McCarthyite witch hunt and a campaign of political repression are almost assured.

If Trump wins, the consequences for the climate crisis will be catastrophic.

The consolidation of a further far-right control of the state apparatus, including the courts and military, will set the people's movement back years.

In 2009 everybody howled that next time we would not bailout the banks unless the people got bailed out. Little did we know that the next bailout had already been baked into the Obama/Congress/Fed 2009 bailout legislation. 30 million families lost their homes to bank foreclosures under Obama. The middle class and poor never recovered.

The Democrat-controlled Pelosi congress stabs the U.S. public in the back in 2020. They gave Wall Street a bailout without using any leverage to bailout the people. Pelosi said "calm down", the Cares Act was only an interim deal. Interim deal that gave away all negotiating power to Wall Street and Republicans.

I admire Paul Jay and supported him at The Real News Network going back to its beginning. Very sadly he lost control of TRNN as the creator and CEO. He was ousted by dark-money interests, I suspect. Greenwald now has a similar experience and resigned from the Intercept.

Alternative media faces a grave threat. It can easily be crowded out by big money. It is happening and the censorship purge is just the beginning.

Jay has not changed. I too saw that as an "alternative". It was only under specific conditions.

Noam Chomsky is the ring-leader of the vote for "Biden" campaign.

Chomsky use to say he was an anarchist and had no interest in directing anyone to do anything- no indication this was EVER true.

Nothing Chomsky has ever said, even when I agreed, was terribly insightful. He's a gatekeeper and Jay, and AOC and Sanders are all part of the cabal. Paid by Open Society Foundation.

Every four years they say the same thing: VTLE and then work like hell to change him/her, or THEN work like hell for 4 years organizing a 3rd party. Very discouraging.

David I encourage you to read Edward Curtin's "Seeking Truth In A Country of Lies".

Here regarding Jay and his opposite, Glenn Greenwald, from "Denying the Obvious: Leftists and Crimstop: "There are many fine writers and activists who are very frustrated by their inability, despite a vast and continuous outpouring of excellent critiques of machinations of the oligarchical rulers of the US, to convince people of the ways they have been brain-washed by government/media propaganda. Most of their anger is directed toward the most obvious sources of this intricate psychological warfare directed at the American people. They often fail to realize, however - or fail to say - that there are leftists in their ranks who, whether intentionally or not, are far more effective than the recognized enemies in government intelligence agencies and their corporate accomplices in the media in convincing people that the system works and that it is not run by killers who will go to any lengths to achieve their goals..."

Thanks Art. What keeps me from writing (besides being lazy) is that there are so many good writers out there. What keeps me going at OpEdNews is that I can publish many of them. In that way I can try to get the message out. Part of the reward is that there are many here to proselytize. You are already among the disciples and teachers. Your voice is very important here. There is a lot of work to do. You never know when a seed will sprout. Many of us that have grown had an epiphany moment had the seed take root. Paul Jay watered my seed. I became an enthusiastic subscriber and he was the first to publish one of my articles. I attended his events at his studio in Baltimore. I can't say we were friends because he was always standoffish. His getting kicked out of TRNN could be his epiphany if he doesn't smother it. That assumes he has not sold out--- more on that another time. I am trying to keep my mind open too.

As shown in this article, insiders from the Democratic Party already have plans in place should Donald Trump win the November election:

The results of the November election could prove to be one of the most significant dividing events in the United States no matter which candidate wins.

This plea to vote for Biden has been authorized by Noam Chomsky.

Regarding the divide and rule...the existence of the "2" parties is really one big psyops regarding "divisiveness" has by design.

This is the Narrative speaking to you about Russia did it. Interestingly, some are beginning to sort out who really benefitted from the Trump presidency and therefore may have been behind the Russia-gate operation.

One way to get insight before it is memory holed is to read Whitney Webb, then investigate her notes. MSM apparently has no interest in informing the public of the compromise currently underway of US National Security systems and critical infrastructure. At the heart of it are about 440 members of congress abetting the infiltration. The next targets besides, Homeland Security, NSA, hospitals and insurance systems, etc. are state and local governments.

Interestingly, surveillance capitalism is no longer solely the purview of the capitalists. With the advent of the pandemic, I doubt that it ever was. The pandemic should have finally driven home the point that the ruling elites have been telling us for decades...we are surplus. They don't need no stinking surveillance capitalism to create foot or cyber traffic to the consumer market place in order to make money.

They made more money in the process of destroying businesses and millions of jobs that could have purchased their lousy stuff early in the pandemic. How is that possible? We no longer have to worry about the capitalists manipulating us for pecuniary reasons.

Surveillance capitalism's baton has officially been handed off to the elites to control people through their governments throughout the west. Yea.

My response is that lesser evil is voting for "fascism".

The Czech novelist Milan Kundera once said, "The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting." Don't succumb. Don't vote your fears.
