Will Obama hold on to Blue Earth and Yellow Medicine? What a county's name says about how it will vote (or not).

What's in a name?  Does a county's name hold a clue as to whether it will go red or blue? Here's a collection of some of the most outstanding county names from around the country, and how they voted in 2008:

McCain won the counties of Bland (VA), Crook (WY), and Yell (AR). But he also took Noble (IN), Christian (IL), and Love (OK). Those counties that gave Obama a majority included Wise (VA), Clinton (MI), and, oddly enough, Maverick County, Texas. He also won the Minnesota counties of Blue Earth and Yellow Medicine, while McCain picked up Petroleum (MT), King George (VA), and Transylvania (SC).

McCain won in the counties of Walla Walla (WA), Tuscaloosa (AL), Okeechobee (FL), and Pottawattomie (IA), while Obama got Yazoo (MS), Tippacanoe (IN), Koochiching (MN), and Minnehaha (SD). In Texas, McCain won Deaf Smith county, but Obama took Jim Hogg.

It was McCain over Obama in Caribou (ID), Beaver (UT), and Antelope (NE) counties, with Obama edging out his rival in Elk (PA), Buffalo (WS), and Eagle (CO).

Also in the McCain column: Ogle (IL), Licking (OH), Loving (TX), and Hooker (NE).

Finally, there are five White Counties in the U.S, one each in Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, and Tennessee. Every one of them voted for McCain.

But what's in a name?
