I
believe Jesus asked someone this question- What is truth? Obviously, He is
truth personified. All we can do is hopefully seek truth out in our own lives
which reflects His truth, and when fortunate to find elements of it- embrace them
wholeheartedly.
You have often heard as I re this question that there are three "truths" --
your truth, my truth, and God's truth. If only we were intent on seeking God's truth.
Well, for me- this wonderful truth was reflected in a piece from Old MacDonald's
Factory Farm by C. David Coats. Joseph Sackett shared it with us on the Vegan
Facebook site. Coats' thoughts are so succinct and truthful -at least in my
opinion, and probably the opinion of many others who are willing to recognize the truth even when
its painful to do so. Here it is:
ISN'T MAN AN AMAZING ANIMAL?
HE KILLS WILDLIFE BY THE MILLION IN ORDER TO PROTECT HIS
DOMESTIC ANIMALS AND THEIR FEED. THEN HE KILLS
DOMESTIC ANIMALS BY THE BILLION AND EATS THEM.
THIS IN TURN KILLS MAN BY THE MILLION,
BECAUSE EATING ALL THOSE ANIMALS LEADS
TO DEGENERATIVE -- AND FATAL-HEALTH CONDITIONS.
SO THEN MAN TORTURES AND KILLS MILLIONS MORE ANIMALS
TO LOOK FOR CURES FOR THESE DISEASES.
ELSEWHERE, MILLIONS OF OTHER HUMAN BEINGS
ARE BEING KILLED BY HUNGER AND MALNUTRITION BECAUSE FOOD
THEY COULD EAT IS BEING USED TO FATTEN DOMESTIC
ANIMALS. MEANWHILE, SOME PEOPLE ARE DYING OF
SAD LAUGHTER AT THE ABSURDITY OF MAN,
WHO KILLS SO EASILY AND SO VIOLENTLY,
AND ONCE A YEAR, SENDS OUT CARDS PRAYING FOR "PEACE ON EARTH."
So sad and yet beautiful in its "truth." I just have to add how cruel we
can be to animals for "entertainment" as well. Nedim Buyukmihci, PhD asked us on Facebook to
sign "Bring an end to the practice of 'dancing bears.' Victoria, the dancing
bear of Nepal- as a cub had a hot rod pierce her nuzzle so that a rope could come through
it and her nose --whereby cruel handlers forced her to dance.
The pain of the rod and the jerking of the rope through her sensitive nose
-- only man can devise such cruelty. Thankfully, Victoria was rescued, but how many more
bears are out there who were not, and are today still living this life of nightmare and
torture? We hope the petition will evoke sympathy and awareness in Nepal and this cruelty
will stop.
If I live to be a 100, I will never understand how man can be so cruel to
his fellow living creatures. We forget that they are God's creatures first and He could
never approve of treating them cruelly.
