W e can't let them conceal the motive for the killings, which lead back to Trump.

It's already started. They're messaging, texting, tweeting, and even calling into my radio/TV show. Breitbart is even bragging that they got it on CNN.

"This killing in Pittsburgh has nothing to do with Donald Trump. He's not an anti-Semite; his daughter converted to Judaism and his grandkids are Jews! How can you blame him for the 'mentally ill' guy [a phrase used to describe terrorists only when they're white]?"

But the shooter, by his own words -- words that are almost entirely missing from most TV coverage -- acted because of what both Trump and Newt Gingrich have said was the main election-year message of Trump and the entire Republican Party: Immigration by people of color.

As the terrorist himself posted on social media just a few hours before he walked into the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh with an AR-15, he was going to kill members of a congregation that supported the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS).

HIAS (whose slogan is "Welcome the stranger; Protect the refugee") had designated October 19 and 20 of this year as the "National Refugee Shabbat" -- and when they did so, the terrorist posted on a right-wing social media site, "Why hello there HIAS! You like to bring in hostile invaders to dwell among us? We appreciate the list of friends you have provided."

HIAS was founded in New York in 1881 to help resettle Jewish refugees, but in recent years has moved many of its efforts toward other refugees, including people from Africa, the Americas, and people who practice Islam. As HIAS's president, Mark Hetfield, told the New York Times, "We used to welcome refugees because they were Jewish. Today HIAS welcomes refugees because we are Jewish."

Dark skin and "Muslim" are triggers for bigots like the cowardly terrorist and his buddies on social media. In another post, presumably referencing HIAS, he wrote, "Open you [sic] Eyes! It's the filthy evil jews [sic] Bringing the Filthy evil Muslims into the Country!!"

HIAS used to have a link on its website to the 270 congregations in 32 states that were participating in the work to bring refugees into the United States (and elsewhere), although that link now just points back to their homepage (perhaps because the event is over, or maybe because of the terrorist's threat).

Noting the terrorist's pointing out that link to the congregations, which included Tree of Life in Pittsburgh, the Times of Israel reported, "To mark the organization's personal involvement, at the back of the hall, information on volunteer opportunities in the refugee and immigration committees of participating synagogues and HIAS materials were available for attendees to take home, including a bookmark with the words 'My People Were Refugees Too.'"

Apparently this festered with the terrorist, because just a few hours before he walked past those brochures and started murdering people at Tree of Life, he posted to a right-wing social media site, "HIAS likes to bring invaders in that kill our people. I can't sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I'm going in."

And in he went, guns blazing.

So, Trump and Gingrich and Fox are giving all-day, all-the-time coverage to a ragtag band of Central American refugees, mostly women and children, who are traveling together on foot for their own mutual safety, lying that there are Arab terrorists and evil gang members among them. This white American terrorist gets increasingly agitated by it all, freaked out that more people of color (or even Muslims!) might be coming to our border to legally apply to asylum, and decides it's time to take out one of the groups associated with HIAS, who is helping refugees.

It's a straight line -- through Fox and right-wing hate radio -- from Trump's rhetoric about immigrants to the terrorist himself.

Trump and the GOP are destroying the nation and empowering racists. And lots of people on OpEdNews are obsessed with blaming the Dems. Weird!

Au contraire mi petite amigo. The fault lies within us. We tolerate hate. We allow it fester and radiate from our children's textbooks to the priming of higher education to take our place in the machinery that promotes separation and hate. Many have said that only Love can conquer hate. I don't think we know what Love is.

I pray that any Good Samaritans along the way give caravan walkers necklaces with large shiny crosses and Christopher medals to wear as they walk before American video cameras. Also they could hold feasts, pig roasts, near stopping points where American media are videotaping them. Eating pork before cameras might reduce a little Muslim hysteria.

Magical thinking, amulets and spells are not going to cure humanity's ills. If religion has taught humanity anything it is that the way of the world is as we have condoned and allowed it to be. I am as responsible in many ways for this condition as those I point the finger at.

Why are we acting like lies don't matter? Between individuals, maybe, but nationally broadcast, they are the very foundation of fascism. And the perpetrator is not Trump, who is just a grotesquely credulous and vicious fool repeating what "many people say," but the overtly fascist, utterly un-American, out-of-control propaganda machine that creates all the lies and feeds them to their maggot toady - Fox "News."

Fox IS the original Fake News and it IS the Enemy of the People. Every hateful thing the neo-Caligula "hears" and "learns" and "sees" comes from this lethal criminal cesspool. When will real Americans put a stop to it?

The First Amendment does not cover shouting "fire" in a crowded theater and Fox lies are doing far, far worse.

Fox News is the perpetrator of lies? Hmmmm. What about the New York Times, LA Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Voice of America, The American Spectator, Newsweek, Time Magazine, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Financial Times, France 24, Der Spiegel, La Monde, Wikipedia, Google results, US k-12 textbooks? The perpetrator is us my friend. We complain about the mote in Fox News' eye when we have a mountain of contradictions in our own eyes. Truth is not on the right or left. Perhaps if we devoted more time to critical thinking and sincere debate we might arrive at not only some basic truths but maybe even solutions to make them congruent with the world.,

By all means let's try some critical thinking my friend, instead of the intellectual laziness of false equivalence. Yes, the MSM lies to support and cover for the crimes of empire. That Kennedy was killed by a lone gunman, we have no contact with ET, cold fusion is fake, three WTC towers were disintegrated by two plane crashes, Iraq had WMD, Khashoggi was strangled, global warming is a distant problem, that we want to bring democracy to the world and not murdering rapist capitalism; all these are lies that keep the facade of democratic freedom in place, that allow law and order and civil rights and keep us from being at each other's throats while we shop.

The lies of Fox news are of a different order, an old and familiar order, the outright fabrications of Hitler and Goebbels and all fascists whose sacred mantras are accuse the opponents of what you are guilty of and make the lies as big as possible, inflame fears and incite to violence.

World War II was about democratic capitalists allied with communists to fight the worse scourge of fascism, and the more we allow it and apologize for it the closer we come to stuffing the vermin in ovens once again. Nobody voted for Sean Hannity to run this country into the ground.

Regrettably some of those capitalist, democratic not with standing, actually help finance the nazi state.

I agree generally with your point except, they are all tools. As such, they allowed to exist. One question might be who owns them. Do they support war? I think the answers to just these two questions would reveal that fox news is part of the media family of the global elites. It's all horror, no matter which monster screams the loudest.

First I agree Trump has some responsibility for providing a narrative both the MSM and neo-Nazis can cling to. This is due to the fact that he sees elections as grabbing every vote you can and take no prisoners, which means he provide subdued reactions to these heinous crimes. That's clearly on him. (Though I think calling him out as a liar has a motive as well - after all no matter he says: he's a liar.)

The media simply looks for a narrative to shape the story. When Obama was president they blamed all the mass killings, on divisiveness due to Obama's racial make up. It was a narrative that played throughout his 2 terms and many massacres.

Clinton's terms had their own stories to tell. Never do we really discuss root causes.

What we know is that the US is a very violent nation regardless of who is POTUS. Our weapons kill millions, foreign and domestic. Our "problems" are all met with violence.

Today we have more billionaires and more poverty than ever. Perhaps Caitlin Johnstone says it best: Mass Media Is The Enemy Of The People Like The Cage Is The Enemy Of The Bird

Trump's natural tendency to tweet his overreactions always grabs a headline, but anti-Semitic utterances are not in his drooling drivel. "Bomb the b*tch" is not there, either, so maybe Thom's article has little or no merit. It is hyperbolic logic at best.

"Lock her up!" probably is a little over the top, but hardly approaches the loudmouthed rhetoric of Antifa and its use of bats and batons to attack cars of passers-by in Charlottesville and Portland. The screeching epithets uttered by the intensely violent crowds during the BK hearings gathered few votes and will likely ensure a backlash. Campus demonstrations are not against war and bombing babies but against free speech of other Americans who hold conservative views. Universities should be ashamed.

Hate is a two-way street to Hell. The Devil reigns there. Civil discourse requires non-violent temperament. Trump is not violent, but his enemies most definitely have gone overboard.

Both-sidesist nonsense. Screaming epithets at a demonstration isn't the same as praising a congressman for assaulting a reporter, or offering to pay legal fees for whomever beats up a demonstrator.

Who among has not desired to harm or kill at some time? We usually don't because of healthy brain chemistry. The increase in violence in American culture may be more the result of something in the environment that has upset brain chemistry on an epidemic scale rather than the propagation of hate which has always been with us. The fault is not in our stars or in ourselves but our environment. Monsanto is the killer here, literally.

.youtube.com/watch?v=qYC6oyBglZI

Watch at least the first 9 minutes of this video and you will learn how glyphosate has created many illnesses, not just cancer.

The danger is not just GE foods but since 1992 Roundup has been sprayed on grains and legumes to dry them uniformly before harvest. Eaters of oats tested highest in the US for glyphosate in their blood. Think about that before giving Cheerios to your child.

Roundup interferes with the production of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, melatonin and epinephrine. A healthy brain needs all those. Roundup also interferes with the CYP450 enzyme, necessary for the liver to metabolize many of the antidepressants so they either don't work or become toxic.

He is also good looking, humorous and empathetic. By the end all the middle aged women in audience are in love.

You can't predict precisely what some deranged person might do. A novel about a troubled teenager could, decades later, prompt someone to kill a music icon. A film about a psychotic taxi driver could inspire someone to attempt to assassinate the POTUS.

That being said, when you provide a clear roadmap to paranoia it's almost inevitable that, eventually, some deranged person is going to follow it. Specifically: suggesting Hillary Clinton is an evil person who should be locked up (if you think she should be tried at the Hague for her role in the coup in Libya say so--unlikely to happen--but that's not what we're hearing); suggesting the MSM is not just biased or misreporting but flat out making stuff up; suggesting the refugees from Guatemala headed across Mexico toward the US is an invasion of evildoers, including Muslim terrorists, funded by George Soros, and constitutes a national crisis for which the Army needs to be called up; claiming the white supremacists in Charlottesville were fine people just out to protect historical heritage; putting out that the Democrats aren't just a party with which you have ideological differences but a bunch of evildoers out to get you. The fact that Trump, predictably, refuses to own any responsibility is just more evidence of how deplorable he is.

How about on a more expanded scale: "We Can't Deny the Connections Between the Pittsburgh Shooting Suspect's Apparent Motivation and Trump's Bigotry" and we certainly can't deny the connections between shootings in the US and all the wars of the past 75 years supported wholeheartedly by Both Dems and Reps. It is not just Trump. This shoot first mentality has been the cornerstone of our foreign policy no matter who is in power. Get off of Trump's case and include all the other presidents and their wars AND include every citizen of the US. That is if one wants to solve the problem. Having Trump magically disappear will result in absolutely no improvement!
