We all are already quite familiar with usable lying. We call these 'white lies'.

"No, darling, you don't look fat."

"Sorry I didn't call. I lost your phone number."

"Your kids are so doggone cute."

And thank goodness! Right? We've all avoided the harsh consequences of total honesty, smoothed over awkward situations, dodged uncomfortable truths and admissions. We've rescued others from hurt feelings, skirted revealing our true but disparaging feelings, swapped good vibes for possible resentment or retaliation, garnered undeserved affection by saying one thing while thinking another.

Unfortunately, usable lying and other well-intended "adjustments" of the truth have opened up the door for many further troubling innovations . . .

Usable fraud.

Usable torture.

Usable racism.

Usable plunder.

Usable hypocrisy.

Usable massacre.

Usable oppression.

Usable enslavement.

Usable spouse abuse.

There are now several "low yield" and "variable yield" nuclear weapons in our arsenal, most notably the W80, B83, and the truly awesome B61-12. These can be dropped from a stealth aircraft like the B-2 advanced technology bomber or F-35A, or mounted on a number of highly advanced cruise missiles. It is "usability" of these weapons which makes them actually more of a threat to human survival than their mega-ton big brothers. But there's no reason to worry. Everything is under control . . . other than the possibility of dissociation from reality by those in the chain of command -- flawed judgment prompted by misunderstanding, stupidity, paranoia, arrogance, hubris, fanaticism, lethal levels of self-righteousness, or a wrong dosage of meds.

John, you got to admit the beauty of our weapons. Let's just hope that when they drop the big one it is at night so we really appreciate it.

People often overlook the aesthetics of weapons of mass destruction. Not only do the phallic shape of the delivery mechanisms have wonderful associations -- especially for us males -- but the clouds of vaporized buildings and humans are simply wonderful to behold. I'm glad that you and I see eye-to-eye on this. Getting the right "seat" for the spectacle is important. Just watching 1,000,000 people returned to a free molecular state is not much fun on an iPad or smart phone. Then again, if you're there in person, you don't want a seat in the front row on the 50 yard line.

But John, where do Neutron Bombs fit in. They leave buildings standing, but not humans. Does that make them any more usable or unusable? I'm confused...

"Does that make them any more usable or unusable?"

Depends on the message we want to send. Their more eco-architecturally friendly. Greta might approve after her next brainwashing by the WEF.

It's like being macho. Different strokes for different occasions. If you want hurt someone just because it's so darn much fun, you beat them one breath shy of death, then go have a PBR. But if you want to torture the guy, turn his soul into a convulsing beast, you leave him alone and screw his wife. Then you let everyone in town know.

Quite honestly, I haven't heard that much neutron bomb talk lately. Or EMP bombs. I think the boom-boom guys have short attention spans.

I can't remember any talk about Neutron bombs after I found out that Neutron bombs existed. Got to believe they are still around hiding somewhere waiting for their golden push the button launch opportunity.

Am I imagining it? At least in my circles, there was a lot of talk about neutron bombs. The idea is both fascinating and sinister. People are dispensable. Real estate is what's important. Of course, there would be a rotting mess to clean up, assuming the population was caught by surprise and had no time to pack up and go camping.

I'm really digging deep in my memory hole. Actually, David, I believe at the time there was a neutron bomb dance. It never caught on like the twist. Maybe it was too twisted.

So, I became curious about what Leonard Cohen meant by "I'm guided by the beauty of our weapons". It is about terrorism--- ours:

Backstage Interview 1988

"I think it means exactly what it says. It is a terrorist song. I think it's a response to terrorism. There's something about terrorism that I've always admired. The fact that there are no alibis or no compromises. That position is always very attractive. I don't like it when it's manifested on the physical plane - I don't really enjoy the terrorist activities - buy Psychic Terrorism. I remember there was a great poem by Irving Layton that I once read, I'll give you a paraphrase of it. It was 'well, you guys blow up an occasional airline and kill a few children here and there', he says. 'But our terrorists, Jesus, Freud, Marx, Einstein. The whole world is still quaking."

From Seven Complex Lessons in Education for the Future:

"The twentieth century lived under the dominion of pseudo-rationality claiming to be the sole rationality, which atrophied comprehension, reflection and long-term vision. Inadequate to handle the most serious problems, this pseudo-rationality created one of the most serious problems ever to face humanity.

"Which leaves us with the paradox: the twentieth century produced gigantic progress in all fields of scientific knowledge and technology. At the same time it produced a new kind of blindness to complex, fundamental, global problems, and this blindness generated countless errors and illusions, beginning with the scientists, technicians and specialists themselves.

"Why? Because the major principles of pertinent learning are misunderstood.

"Fragmentation and compartmentalization of knowledge keeps us from grasping 'that which is woven together'.

"Shouldn't the present century liberate itself from the control of mutilated, mutilating rationality so that the human mind can finally control it? It means understanding disjunctive, reductive thought by exercising thought that distinguishes and connects.

"It does not mean giving up knowledge of the parts for knowledge of the whole, or giving up analysis for synthesis, it means conjugating them.

"This is the challenge of complexity which ineluctably confronts us as our planetary era advances and evolves."

We must become experientially aware of the darker elements of the human psyche, which Jung named the shadow.

What will it take to get us to face our ignorance, passivity and suicidality? It begins with fostering kindness, compassion and courtesy in interpersonal relationships, realizing that we must live that for which we advocate. And the courage to face our less than savory aspects of the psyche.

As we move into integrity across all sectors of our being, we may be given the opportunity to serve the world.

I've reduced all my peace efforts to a simple message: "They" are not listening. "They" will not listen. Talking to "them" is pointless.

So your point resonates. The dark side totally possesses those now in power. We only have to look at the horrors inflicted on the world by them since WWII to see they cannot be persuaded by reason, morality, appeals to common sense or common decency. Until the "peace movement" and other activist segments realize this, they will have ZERO IMPACT on the direction of our country.

I only write articles as a foundation for this simple message. We are way beyond analysis, introspection, hand-wringing, arguing, whining, persuading. We need to point fingers, target those responsible and remove them from power. PERIOD! Anything less is just more self-delusion and self-deception (thanks, Destinie). And if pointing fingers doesn't work, I hate to say it, but it'll come down to pointing weapons.

This is why we will need to change our consciousness, beginning with the worship of the concepts "us and them."

I would say we need to prepare for what will seem like Armageddon, as we hit the wall of our own creation.

Failure to re-think our basic ideas and expand our awareness will leave us powerless to conceive of creative ways to Begin to turn this dark momentum around, or at least to plant seeds.

We need to penetrate reality more deeply, give up superficiality, and have the patience and persistence to truly understand the roots of our predicament, as well as the astounding potential that awake humans can manifest.++

Using the same old thinking and consciousness will keep us asleep and court doom, no mater how clever the words.

3 1/2 years ago, I arrived home very late. As I got out of my car, a large man grabbed me, pinned my arms to my sides, then used zip ties on my hands. He was much bigger than me and I was helpless. He forced me behind a garden wall. I said to him, 'there's no need for this. you and i are the same energy. we are both part of the perfect expression of life. you are not my enemy. i am not your victim. let's celebrate our shared participation in the perfect oneness and infinite beauty of the universe.'

He laughed so loud I'm amazed he didn't wake up the neighborhood, and then he raped me. When we got down to the action he was looking for, he realized I was a pre-op transgender. He then beat me so badly, he broke both of my cheek bones and shattere my left occipal casing. I had my last of three corrective surgical operations six months ago.

I agree that "us and them" are not some final rigid dichotomy. Can you give me some advice on how I misapplied your precious reconceptualization in this encounter?

Poem: Please Call Me By My True Names

By Thich Nhat Hanh

Don't say that I will depart tomorrow
even today I am still arriving.

Look deeply: every second I am arriving
to be a bud on a Spring branch,
to be a tiny bird, with still-fragile wings,
learning to sing in my new nest,
to be a caterpillar in the heart of a flower,
to be a jewel hiding itself in a stone.

I still arrive, in order to laugh and to cry,
to fear and to hope.
The rhythm of my heart is the birth and death
of all that is alive.

I am a mayfly metamorphosing
on the surface of the river.
And I am the bird
that swoops down to swallow the mayfly.

I am a frog swimming happily
in the clear water of a pond.
And I am the grass-snake
that silently feeds itself on the frog.

I am the child in Uganda, all skin and bones,
my legs as thin as bamboo sticks.
And I am the arms merchant,
selling deadly weapons to Uganda.

I am the twelve-year-old girl,
refugee on a small boat,
who throws herself into the ocean
after being raped by a sea pirate.

And I am also the pirate,
my heart not yet capable
of seeing and loving.

I am a member of the politburo,
with plenty of power in my hands.
And I am the man who has to pay
his "debt of blood" to my people
dying slowly in a forced-labor camp.

My joy is like Spring, so warm
it makes flowers bloom all over the Earth.
My pain is like a river of tears,
so vast it fills the four oceans.

Please call me by my true names,
so I can hear all my cries and laughter at once,
so I can see that my joy and pain are one.

Please call me by my true names,
so I can wake up
and the door of my heart
could be left open,
the door of compassion.

Destinie,

My heart goes out to you for what you had to endure.

Living in this culture we are all sick.

It sounds like your rage runs you. I believe it obscures and distorts your vision. In some circles there is a phrase - "identification with the aggressor," as a way of coping with trauma (BTW - one of the original and best books on trauma is Trauma and Recovery by Judith Herman).

Communication is key. Your style, IMO, leaves a lot to be desired. In my experience, finding things to appreciate in another's words or actions - before offering constructive criticism - is what works.

You can join all the "peace groups" you wish. In the short run your anger may fuel action. In the long-run your habit of negativity, criticizing and judging others will doom any peace work you engage in to impotence.

I will add that your exporting the abuse you experienced is not something I will tolerate. It is presumptuous, destructive and contradicts your desire for peace on Earth.

Just calling it like it is. I'm not angry. I feel nothing toward you but pity. My remark is meant as advice. You are immersed in self-deception and drowning in delusion, and can't begin to see how harmful and hurtful your mockery is.

You have such an abundance of advice, are so quick to judge and condemn, but are clueless how ridiculous and destructive you are to anything resembling a useful exchange of ideas. I suggest you direct your energies elsewhere. You are offensive beyond words. I have no idea why you are even here. You add nothing and detract from what could be a good conversation. Please go away!

Hi Destinie,

I'm sorry to say that your comment appears to be pure projection. You seem to be mimicking your abuser, allowing yourself to become the enemy you despise. You appear to be in denial about your rage and feel entitled to spew your vitriol onto others. You degrade without owning it, which says all too much about the state of your consciousness.

There is no mockery in my words. The fact that you interpret them this way also says a lot about your consciousness. As I said, I will not indulge this kind of behavior. It is destructive and a waste of time. Once again, I'm sorry you were attacked in such s brutal way. I wish you good luck with your healing.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, David.

I think we need to consider our devastating predicament from both long- and short-term perspectives. In the short term there are actions we can take, say, to publicize the destruction that a nuclear attack would wreak. Also, as an individual, we can learn to think differently. We can as well, clean up our act - in terms of the tendencies we carry of greed, hatred, and delusion - and remind others that they can do the same.

In the societal realm perhaps all we can do is plant seeds. Meanwhile, we can work toward our own - and others' spiritual liberation.

Re- the long-term, my current take is similar to yours. From the information I am gathering, we may have to face at least 40 years of death and misery. The momentum of ecological destruction, the MIC, etc., etc., is simply too strong for it to stop anytime soon. If we are fortunate. a new human species will be born out of this cauldron. In any case the sheer pain we face ahead may act as a catalyst for new learning. If not, authoritarian power, surveillance, and more is our ongoing future.

To become experientially aware of the darker elements of the human psyche requires knowing we have a psyche. You are living in a bubble and are out of touch with the reality of everyday people. You might consider writing comic books.

In any case, you should look into C14H20ClNO2.

Thanks, Destinie,

I would agree that that the majority of people are in a hypnotic trance. Yet, the intense compression of the coming decades, may, if we are very fortunate, catalyze a large-scale awakening. We humans are millions of year-old survivors.

I think this is a useful perspective, as the alternative reality is a 1984-like world in which the Earth becomes a wasteland.

We each can work for a hopeful future. Words like 'psyche' are not necessary. All but the most asleep know they have a heart, mind and spirit.

If we all "have a heart, mind and spirit," why is it 99% of what you write here only speaks to the mind? All I see from you is brain signaling. Have you ever had a normal conversation with a normal person? If you have, you show know signs of it here. This article is NOT about 1984. Great. Now we know you read George Orwell. We're impressed. This article from what I gather is a call to action. I signed up on the Peace Dividend website as an activist. That whole website is packed with ideas for fixing the mess and is all about doing something, not sitting back like you're a modern day Plato contemplating alternative futures. This wasteland talk is the talk of a lazy coward. It's pretty hard to win a battle if you never leave the library.

I still say that The Who with their 1970's "Wont Get Fooled Again" prayed away the start of WW 3, which bomb bombing Iran would most likely start. Something is going to wake up the comfortably numb, mainly peaceful people. I can understand them, there isn't much to believe in watching the last 60 years of politics. 60 years since the 60s, number 9 (Or 11th in family.) is in his sixties and living on 6th floor with 6s every where. I'll bet ya (How much?) some hippy musicians from the 60s saw sixty years coming.

2021 of 21st century just has to be the 21 days of Daniel 10. And we just witnessed Daniel 11:45 with 1-6-21 riot on the capital. Can't say I saw that coming, but knew of, "the appointed time of end of the ways of this world" verse. Even if only the beginning of the end.

Maybe there were some who didn't get fooled again but tragically the majority of people in the U.S. seem to be wearing a 'Fool Me Again' sign on their backs and don't know it.

It's interesting you bring up this song. Someone on FB also mentioned it in a comment which referenced this article. 'New boss same as the ol' boss!' That sums it up. And new plan is the same as the old plan. Conquer, defeat, kill, destroy. That's been the singular theme of U.S. foreign policy since WWII. Which is why we need a REAL NEW BOSS. Trying to get the psychopaths in Washington DC to listen is like trying to talk to someone on the Moon using string and two tin cans. When will activists wake up? It is only by toppling those in power that we will accomplish anything.

The line that sticks out to me, maybe paraphrased a touch is, "Them who sit in justice of all wrong are still wrong that the shotgun still sings the song." One thing recall reading briefly back in 1996 in the Torah (Or do I have the name mixed up of that Jewish book?) was, "If the world continues to insist on strict justice the world will not endure." And that was written a a couple 1000 years ago.

Tom Paine said about the same in the following from Common Sense:

"An avidity to punish is always dangerous to liberty--It leads men to stretch, to misinterpret, and to misapply even the best of laws. He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates his duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself." --Thomas Paine

We need to feed even who we see as enemies. Exporting Thanksgiving Dinners has been my Foreign Policy since, when ever it was, that first read of the huge party of Isaiah 25 when veil is lifted from all Nations' eyes. That has to be when they never train for war again as written for will for these times in Isaiah 2 and Micah 4.

I'm opposed to unnecessary punishment. We can feed our enemies, internally and externally. We can treat them with the respect they deserve, as human beings.

I don't think that removing a person from a position where they can inflict cruelty and harm on others is punishment. If a teacher at an elementary school is discovered molesting the children, is it punishment to remove him from his/her job?

I guess I'm not seeing your point. Nothing I propose is about vindictiveness, nor is it driven by anger. There are people in society-sanctioned positions who have been given authority. If that authority is properly used, we members of society benefit from their service. If their power is abused, we suffer. It's not just our right, it is our responsibility to every other person, especially the vulnerable and powerless, to do what we can to have those "over us" in such roles operate within an acceptable moral and legal framework. Our current leaders are criminals. War criminals, thieves, liars, self-serving and selfish traitors to our entire system and our values as people. Maybe they should be punished. That's a whole other discussion. For now, I just want them isolated and prevented from doing any more damage.

I wasn't saying in the least that you were the men who sit in judgment of all wrong being the ones who decides the shotgun sings the song. That is the powers that be.

You much to sensitive sometimes.

We were talking Foreign Policy where strict justice rules in US leaders minds. I will add that I think "that shotgun sings the song foreign policy reaps "the teacher or priest who abuse kids, right here in Society." Karma takes many roads.

You make me think of a line in this "Doors to Heaven" song. (And the song is an important truth kept secret in Daniel 8 and 12.) Paraphrased--"If the doors of heaven were closed and all the angels had no where to go but be born as human beings, (Sharing the darkness with their light.) who would dare abuse a children." The truth of this song will one day help set mankind free, and not a moment sooner than it is understood as true.

The funeral is of Arlo's Guru Ma who inspired the song at an aids clinic by saying, "We all have aids. Someone needs to close the doors to heaven. Someone should write a song." I had thought the song was inspired by me, since it came out in 1994 on Mystic Journey, I ended up on. Arlo's wife Jackie put this one together after I did a DJ version of the song, which I was not happy for the sound was not turned up at the begin. Jackie told me she loved my version, (her Mom's favorite song,) and then did this version.

Just trying to get the meaning. And keep the record straight for everyone, not just you, what this is all about. Everyone seems to have an opinion. Sometimes I don't even recognize my own project. It's actually very clear but people read a lot into it that's not there, bring in their own preconceptions. It's like ten teams all trying to play a game of basketball on the same court. And their all wearing the same color uniforms.

Yes there are 10 different truths to these times. There's an infinite number of truths. Only jiving since someone answered my comment in Cyberspace.

No this is important topic you been on for years. The last interviews you had were great. My one wish would be to ask Wilkerson how much does religion have to do with US Foreign Policy? I recall hearing once he said it has much influence. The US Christian Religion sees the rest of the world as the heathens they called the Natives, and the sons of devils they called Rock and Roll. I aim to put a stop to that trash. But I had to bring it up for they are so wrong about so much, that they can not be allowed to support a long wanted bomb, bomb Iran for Israel.

Guess I do believe as Steve Earle sings in this Jerusalem song from around 2008. He says he still believes the fate of the world hinges in Jerusalem. He will keep singing about it until it changes or he dies. Steve Earle was one who really heard what Woody Guthrie saw. Dylan went to see Woody but Bob never really got it.

Colonel Wilkerson has appeared on Paul Jay's TheAnalysis.com several times discussing a new dangerous fusion between religious fanaticism and U.S. imperialism he calls Christian Nationalism. You can access it HERE. Another related discussion with Mikey Weinstein is HERE.

I find Wilkerson to offer some of the most balanced and informed commentary on U.S. foreign policy. He's agreed to be in the Peace Dividend film if I can ever get it made.

I couldn't read all the Wilkerson interview. But if the same Religious Folks who wanted to Nuke China in the 50s are still around, they need to go away real soon. It only came to me at start of Corona that the war in heaven of Revelation 12 was thrown down here to earth because of the Nukes on Japan. Had known we came down from above before knowing of us being thrown down here was in the Bible. Like riders on the storm by the doors. I'm riding this storm out.

Keeping the mind from "turning on itself" is a constant struggle. One only needs to look at the most popular flicks on Netflix to see that violence are the most populated videos. It is really sick, but there is a reason that that is what sells clicks. Violence is as 'American' as cherry pie.

The state controls Hollywood. It feeds the shadow of violence to sell its state-sponsored violence. It uses it to divide and conquer. It doesn't care about the side-effects of school shootings, mass murder, serial killings, sexual violence, alcoholism, drug abuse, the fetish for guns, and domestic violence that the state-sponsored culture of violence causes. The war on crime, war on drugs, war on terrorism, and now the war on covid1984 are excuses to increase state power, violence and control.

The biggest mass movement of 36 million people protested the Iraq invasion in 2003. Since then, police riots, repression, ethnic cleansing, state sponsored terrorism, and illegal wars of aggression have gotten worse. Most people turn their head and pretend it is not happening, like "good germans". Non-violent protest doesn't work.

What will work? We don't have an answer.

P.S. Destinie, often I use humor, irony, and metaphors and to express my protest, especially with John because I know he gets it. Please understand that I care about all this sh*t. It disgusts me. It is not a joke to me. Your rape and beating was really a horrible thing.

I always enjoy and learn from what you have to say. I'm new here but I can see you're one of the good ones.

What happened to me is nothing compared to what others endure every day, a lot of it the product of U.S. aggression. Yes, we are a violent society. Yes, we all have that savage element in us. We don't always know what will work, that's for sure. But we keep at it, keep putting it out there, and most of all, keep our feet on the ground. The liberals, academics, thinkers we used to rely on have either sold out or are coming up empty-handed. We are losing the fight. It is disgusting. I read all of the articles here about war and the military, the next move in the big power games, and there are no fresh ideas. A lot of talk about how it was back in the 70s, before I was born. Or silly talk about spiritual awakening in a society that raises a reality show casino magnate to the highest office in the land. We are under assault. Individually. Believe me I know. And our violent side is being encouraged and turned against ourselves.

"I keep hoping upon hope, believing despite all evidence to the contrary, that there are a few sane people at the helm of our sprawling, lethal, suicidal military establishment, our myopic State Department, our warmongering Congress, and power-drunk Executive Branch."

But there aren't. To think so is delusional. THAT'S why it's incumbent on us to drive these con artists and liars out of public office and replace them with elected officials who will represent the interests of the people, not the MIC and others who have a stake in perpetual war.

All these "upgrades" and new weapons development schemes are both a horrifying waste and creating a world where peace is not possible. Neither Russia and China want any part of an arms race. Despite what we hear 24/7/365, they are arming themselves to DEFEND against our constant threats and saber-rattling. So our "usable nukes" and hypersonic missiles and god knows what else is a complete waste of money, money which we need individually and as a nation to repair the damage done by neglect and devotion to being an empire.

Please help out. Sign up HERE.

Certain energies toxify the milieu.

These include sarcasm, the unwillingness to be aware of and own one's less than savory motives (especially aggression), and an "us against them" mindset. Too often - as in this thread - we indulge in putting others down, rather than sharing our hard-won wisdom, and raising others up. Immaturity and the need to be "right" are often the culprits.

Negativity toward others and remaining unaware of our unfinished emotional business will, in the long-run, doom any peace-making efforts. We need to begin with ourselves.

From Bob Koehler:

"Kolinjivadi offers this bit of wisdom for our journey: 'A decolonial GND requires constant learning, building mutual consent and trust, and self-reflection of the embedded thought processes . . . that we all hold in contributing to such oppression, whether we realize it or not.

''We have reached a point of no return and we must realize that there is no savior and no quick-fix solution for the climate catastrophe we currently face. While the 'mess' we are in was not created by all of humanity equally (and we must recognize this!), it is a 'mess' of such proportions that we need committed and unconditional solidarity to get ourselves out of it.'

"My final focus, for now, is on the idea of "constant learning." I think there is value to it beyond measure. Every last soul on the planet can engage in constant learning. All that's required is pushing oneself beyond one's certainties."
