Permaculture
is a way of gardening and farming that is sustainable. One of the ways that it fosters this is by
focusing on crops that are perennial while relying less on annual. Thus, it is a permanent culture that
ultimately requires less labor.
How? It is simply a
system of perennial agriculture emphasizing the use of renewable natural
resources and the enrichment of local ecosystems. Thus, you are not tilling the soil every spring.
In essence, Permaculture focuses on farming that mimics how Nature Herself works. In the long run, this reduces labor for there is less and less planting because the plants rejuvenate themselves in the same fashion that trees, upon the demise of winter, spring forth new leaves. In many ways, this speaks to the birth, death and resurrection motive that is inherent in the story of Christ's birth, death and resurrection.
Could it be that Christ's story is inherent in all stories including Plants (Planet) as well as History and Herstory (i.e., Ourstory)? Could this be what Lao Tzu refers to as "The Way" in the Tao Te Ching?
Permaculture enthusiasts are often attracted to groups that call themselves Transition Town. This movement's ultimate goal is to foster self-sustaining communities. The transition entails getting people to unite within their community to (a) become more self-sufficient and (b) empower the local community and environment.
The unspoken goal of these movements is to ultimately foster independence from the corporate systems.
Rob Hopkins, the founder of the Transition Town movement, wrote an article introducing a topic that is titled: "The Eight Paradigm Shifts at the Heart of REconomy."
For those who are supportive of the empowerment of individuals and local systems, this article should be a goldmine.

We
are the power we've been looking for.
Point the proverbial finger at corporations and government and you have 3-pointed
right back at yourself. Mother Nature's
Wisdom (Sophia) designed your hands in such a way that this empowerment is realized
within you. You are what we all have
been waiting for! Transition
Town is one way to move back to our empowerment. In a sense, Transition Town is
metaphorically Eve's (Labor) telling Adam (the corporation and its underling
government) to take a hike. (This is my perspective and not necessarily a spoken goal of Transition Town or Permaculture).
