PORT HURON, MI -- March 6, 2016 - Canadian citizen, Patrick Whittemore contacted St. Clair County for Bernie in Port Huron to volunteer to go door to door campaigning for Presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders.

On Sunday afternoon, Whittemore drove over three hours from Toronto, ON Canada to canvass local neighborhoods in Port Huron. He arrived at the Bernie16 Volunteer Hub wearing his very own Bernie2016 t-shirt. Local Port Huron Sanders volunteer, Cheryl Stein accompanied Whittemore while they canvassed her own neighborhood.

When asked why he decided to drive from so far away to campaign for Sanders he said he had previously campaigned for Senator Sanders during the Iowa Caucus for three long days. He went on to say that if Sanders is elected he will most likely be out of a job because Whittemore is a Canadian-based day trader. But he said that "if he puts in the Wall Street speculation tax that it will affect me. And if the SEC gets really strong and they crack down on the fraudulent penny stock companies then I would probably be out of a job. Even if it was to hurt my job, it's better for people to be going to college for free. I'd be willing to sacrifice that for the greater good."

Whittemore says his big issues are:
" the $15 minimum wage because in Ontario the minimum wage
is $11.00 per hour in CA funds
" universal health care because I think the US should have it here too
" he likes the fact that Sanders is non-interventionist.
" he likes that Sanders says there will be less people in jail if he is elected
" And free college.

He asked, "Did you know that the Liberals in Ontario now are doing free college if you make under $50,000? I was curious if Bernie influenced that because they announced it 2 weeks ago. Bernie has been talking about it for nine months and they never even mentioned it before and boom. It comes out so he may have already changed things."

Does Whittemore plan any more excursions to campaign for Sanders? He is considering spending some days campaigning in Buffalo, New York in April since it is not too far from Toronto.

What does Whittemore think a Sanders Presidency will bring to Canada? "I think it would finally give us the guts to vote in someone progressive in Canada. We've never given the NDP a chance ever. It just boggles the mind. I'd like to see the NDP get in or even the Green Party."

As he was leaving Patrick said it should be a good debate tonight since Bernie has been taking off the gloves with Hillary over the last few days. "Hopefully he'll go after her hard. You know it's do or die. He's got nothing to loose."
