Why not write an amendment to the present Medicare law which would state: "The eligibility age for Medicare will be extended from the time of conception to the time of death? "
This would then cover health care from prenatal to hospice. But of course that's too simple for these complificators in the DemocraticParty. The trouble is that none of our congress people learned anything in their biology classes. Nature always does it the simple, economical way, preferring to reorganize and adapt existing, functioning systems to reinventing the wheel. Medicare is there and up and running, but to adapt it is too simple for these bubble-heads in the DNC and Oval Office.
There are two types of idiot: the organic and the functional. The organic idiots are poor souls for whom little can be done. The functional idiots are known by their behavior and that irrespective of their IQ's. A classical example of high IQ functional idiots are Wall Street brokers and Bankers, most members of Congress and Senate, most corporate CEO's and the denizens now present in the Oval Office. Theirt ypical behavior pattern is to avoid at all costs assessing the long-term consequences of their actions in favor of immediate gratification--i.e.the bottom line.
An analogy of this behavior is that of the typical beginning motorcar driver who looks only at the road immediately before the car and rarely into the distance down the road with the result that this driver usually charts a wavering course and is often unpleasantly surprised by thesudden appearance of e mergency situations.
Initial boost funding could be obtained by the sequestration of most funds now appropriated for overseas wars and foreign military bases--most of the latter being leftovers from WWII and the cold war and redirecting these already appropriated funds for Medicare. That should cover funding for the whole populace of the USA until the year 2100 and redirect the nation's energies to the home front where they belong in these times of severe national crisis.
It's high time the USA stops playing the "Great-White-Father-In-Washington" who is obligated to save the World from itself game. Really, methinks the World is perfectly capable of taking care of itself.
I've gotten old. Back in the forties isolationist Senator Robert A Taft was my greatest bugaboo. I was an ardent internationalist, but not a military internationalist like Obama. This man follows his nose for the green and corporate America provides the most green. It makes me wish for another honorable, sensible Taft to arise in the Republican Party and take it away from these crazies. Only then would bipartisanship have a real chance.
Bipartisanship can only succeed if both parties share the same goals but differ in method of attaining them. In this case the goal would be a strong, peaceful, healthy USA which would return to it's WWII ideal of creating a peaceful world community, but this Republican Party is, by their own definition of "Drown the Government in a bathtub," really the Anarchist Party of America and government and anarchy are antithetical.
As for the present Democratic Party, it needs Lord Nelson's Trafalgar treatment-- a clean sweep.
