There may not have been as large a blue wave as some hoped for in this election, however, many female candidates rode their own blue wave to victory.

Some of the female winners in this election include:

All four members of The Squad, who won reelection: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. All are women of color under 50, have been supported by the Justice Democrats political action committee, and are on the left wing of the Democratic Party.

Others who won their races include:

BLM activist, Cori Bush has become the first Black woman to represent the state of Missouri.

Nikema Williams, a State Senator from Georgia and the first-ever Black woman to chair the GA Democratic Party, will serve in the late John Lewis' House seat.

It looks like The Squad might expand.

Two New Mexico Democrats won their elections, Rep. Deb Haaland (incumbent) and Teresa Leger Fernandez. (New Mexico has become the first state in history to elect all women of color to the U.S. House of Representatives; Republican Yvette Herrell won the third of New Mexico's three congressional districts.)
