This is an updated and revised version of the full cover-story that appeared in the important publication, garrison: The Journal of History and Deep Politics, Issue 003. Issue 004 is due out this week and I urge readers to purchase it. You will read articles there that you will find no place else, brilliant, eye-opening analyses of issues that the MSM will never touch.

"It never happened. Nothing ever happened. Even while it was happening it wasn't happening. It didn't matter. It was of no interest. The crimes of the United States have been systematic, constant, vicious, remorseless, but very few people have actually talked about them. You have to hand it to America. It has exercised a quite clinical manipulation of power worldwide while masquerading as a force for universal good. It's a brilliant, even witty, highly successful act of hypnosis." - Harold Pinter's Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech, 2005

While truth-tellers Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning sit inside jail cells and Edward Snowden lives in exile in Russia, the American people hole up in an illusionary dwelling constructed to reduce them to children afraid of the truth. Or is it the dark? This is not new; it has been so for a very long time, but it has become a more sophisticated haunted doll's house, an electronic one with many bells and whistles and images that move faster than the eye can see. We now inhabit a digital technological nightmare controlled by government and corporate forces intent on dominating every aspect of people's lives. This is true despite the valiant efforts of dissidents to use the technology for human liberation. The old wooden doll houses, where you needed small fingers to rearrange the furniture, now only need thumbs that can click you into your cell's fantasy world. So many dwell there in the fabricated reality otherwise known as propaganda. The result is mass hallucination.

In a 1969 interview, Jim Garrison, the District Attorney of New Orleans and the only person to ever bring to trial a case involving the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, said that as a result of the CIA's murderous coup d'e'tat on behalf of the military-industrial-financial-media-intelligence complex that rules the country to this day, the American people have been subjected to a fabricated reality that has rendered them a nation of passive Eichmanns, who sit in their living rooms, popping pills and watching television as their country's military machine mows down people by the millions and the announcers tell them all the things they should be afraid of, such as bacteria on cutting boards and Russian spies infiltrating their hair salons. Garrison said:

The creation of such inanities as acceptable reality and unacceptable reality is necessary for the self-preservation of the super-state against its greatest danger: understanding on the part of the people as to what is really happening. All factors which contribute to its burgeoning power are exaggerated. All factors which might reveal its corrosive effect on the nation are concealed. The result is to place the populace in the position of persons living in a house whose windows no longer reveal the outside but on which murals have been painted. Some of the murals are frightening and have the effect of reminding the occupants of the outside menaces against which the paternal war machine is protecting them. Other murals are pleasant to remind them how nice things are inside the house.

But to live like this is to live in a doll's house. If life has one lesson to teach us, it is that to live in illusion is ultimately disastrous.

In the doll's house into which America gradually has been converted, a great many of our basic assumptions are totally illusory. [i]

Fifty years have disappeared behind us since the eloquent and courageous Garrison (read On the Trail of the Assassins) metaphorically voiced the truth, despite the CIA's persistent efforts to paint him as an unhinged lunatic through its media mouthpieces. These days they would probably just lock him up or send him fleeing across borders, as with Assange, Manning, and Snowden.

It is stunning to take a cue from his comment regarding the JFK assassination, when he suggested that one reverse the lone assassin scenario and place it in the U.S.S.R. No American could possibly believe a tale that a former Russian soldier, trained in English and having served at a top Soviet secret military base, who had defected to the U.S. and then returned home with the help of the K.G.B., could kill the Russian Premier with a defective and shoddy rifle and then be shot to death in police headquarters in Moscow by a K.G.B. connected hit man so there would be no trial and the K.G.B. would go scot free. That would be a howler! So too, of course, are the Warren Commission's fictions about Oswald.

Snowden, Assange, and Manning

If we then update this mental exercise and imagine that Snowden, Assange, and Manning were all Russian, and that they released information about Russian war crimes, political corruption, and a system of total electronic surveillance of the Russian population, and were then jailed or sent fleeing into exile as a result, who in the U.S., liberal, libertarian or conservative, would possibly believe the Russian government's accusations that these three were criminals.

Nevertheless, Barack Obama, the transparency president, made sure to treat them as such, all the while parading as a "liberal" concerned for freedom of speech and the First Amendment. He made sure that Snowden and Manning were charged under the Espionage Act of 1917, and that Assange was corralled via false Swedish sex charges so he had to seek asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London (a form of jail). He brought Espionage Act prosecutions against eight people, more than all former presidents combined. He hypocritically pardoned Manning on his way out the door as if this would polish his deluded liberal legacy after making her suffer terribly through seven years of imprisonment. He set the stage for Trump to re-jail Manning to try to get this most courageous woman to testify against Assange, which she will not do, and for the collaborationist British government to jail Assange in preparation for his extradition to the United States and a show trial. As for Snowden, he has been relegated to invisibility, good for news headlines once and for a movie, but now gone and forgotten.

Obama and Trump, arch political "enemies," have made sure that those who reveal the sordid acts of the American murderous state are cruelly punished and silenced. This is how the system works, and for most Americans, it is not happening. It doesn't matter. They don't care, just as they don't care that Obama backed the 2009 coup d'e'tat in Honduras that has resulted in so many deaths at the hands of U.S trained killers, and then Trump ranted about all these "non-white" people fleeing to the U.S. to escape a hell created by the U.S., as it has been doing throughout Latin America for so long. Who does care about the truth? Has anyone even noticed how the corporate media has disappeared the "news" of all those desperate people clamoring to enter the U.S.A. from Mexico? One day they were there and in the headlines; the next day, gone. It's called news.

The Sleepwalkers

But even though a majority of Americans have never believed the government's explanation for JFK's murder, they nevertheless have insouciantly gone to sleep for half a century in the doll's house of illusions as the killing and the lies of their own government have increased over the years and any semblance of a democratic and peaceful America has gone extinct. The fates of courageous whistle-blowers Assange, Manning, and Snowden don't concern them. The fates of Hondurans don't concern them. The fates of Syrians don't concern them. The fates of Iraqis, Afghans, Yemenis, Palestinians don't concern them. The fates of America's victims all around the world don't concern them. Indifference reigns.

Obviously, if you are reading this, you are not one of the sleepwalkers and are awake to the parade of endless lies and illusions and do care. But you are in a minority.

Thank You Ed. Reality is so disheartening it is nearly impossible to get people to confront it. You get accused of being too negative. The only way to change our trajectory however is to embrace the negative reality for what it is and start from there.

Thanks, Lois. I didn't know I get accused of being too negative - HA!

What does negative mean? I always thought what one thinks is truth and its expression is a positive thing. It doesn't mean one is always right, but that's where dialogue enters. I don't live negatively, even if I write some negative analyses. I never lose hope, feel sustained, and enjoy life immensely. We live in a very sick society, and saying that is positive, not negative. I think it is true, indisputably. Entire societies can be as insane as individuals, and I think the country that I love is crazy as they come.

Thank you, Edward. This is the big picture that ties America present to America past, and explains how we got where we are. Needless to say, this is not about Trump. It's much older. You trace our problems to the JFK assassination, and I might suggest that it's helpful to go back to Allen Dulles's history in the 1930s and 40s to understand the coup of the 1960s. And these abominable imperial wars did not start with Vietnam, but can be traced to the Spanish-American War of 1898, and the Mexican war, even earlier.

I'd cut the American people more of a break than this. Consider the sophistication and the ubiquity of the mind control machine that surrounds them.

I think of myself as an independent thinker in the extreme. Yet after 9/11, it took me more than 3 years before I could let the truth enter my mind. When I finally let go of the NYTimes, it was a trauma that left me reeling, and which alienated me from my own children and from most of the friends I was close to.

The first thing I did after doubts about 9/11 entered my mind was to ask my buddies in the election integrity community if it was OK for me to entertain these thoughts. Anyone who can hold his perspective against universal opposition is either mad or will quickly become so.

The web of partial information and disinformation, from Noam Chomsky to Matt Taibbi to Tulsi Gabbard to Steven Greer to John Perkins to David Swanson to Jeremy Scahill makes it well nigh impossible to know anything with certainty. I've learned from each of these people, and I'm grateful for their work.

Just for fun, here are six topics about which I'd love to know the truth, but the contradictory information and disinformation has me scratching my head:

* I'm convinced that the Wuhan virus is a bioweapon. Is it American or Chinese? Both governments seem eager to deny the laboratory connection.

* Was 9/11 a Mossad operation with permission from Rumsfeld and Cheney? Or was it a the PNAC neocons who hired Mossad to help with their dirty work? Or other possibilities...

* Who built the Pyramids and Machu Picchu's Old Mountain? Was there an advanced civilization before the last Ice Age (12,700 years ago)? and if so, how did it end?

* What are UFO's? Are we being watched by multiple alien races? Are they manipulating our history or our biology or both? If they're not figments of our imagination, why do they look so damn human, and how is it that their DNA is compatible with our own?

* Where did the $21 Trillion go that Mark Skidmore found missing in the Defense Dept budget?

* Are there vast cities underground, being built as refuge for the elite in preparation for a coming crisis?

More questions:

* What are chemtrails, and what is the agenda of those who are spraying the skies?

* Is there an organized scientific suppression of cold fusion technology, or are the barriers to commercialization primarily technical and theoretical?

* Who is behind the global effort to corral environmentalists behind the single issue of CO2, and what is their game?

* 5G seems to be a disaster waiting to unfold. It is likely that many people will be so sick from it that they will have to dismantle the broadcast boxes soon after they are activated. Yet telecom companies from Verizon to Apple to Huawei are investing a trillion dollars in the near term. Can it be that they don't know what you and I know?

Thanks, Josh. I would like to address all your messages here. You are right about Dulles and the Spanish American War, etc., as it's called. I have written about those topics but in an article of 6,000 words I had to limit myself and so chose the crucial last fifty years or so. I think the assassination of President Kennedy by the national security apparatus and its subsequent coverup was a turning point. From that murder flowed so many others and the evil forces felt free to "take over" the country in quite obvious ways. For fifty + years a vast war has been waged against the American people, a propaganda war of immense proportions that has penetrated deep into people's daily lives and psyches through the digital technology of cell phones, etc. Being "informed" is now being deformed. Maybe I am being too hard on average people, but pointing out people's complicity in their own imprisonment is something that is not emphasized much, but I think there's a lot of truth to it. Not the whole truth, as I point out, but true nevertheless. As for all your good questions, I agree many are hard to answer definitively, so again my emphasis is not on them in particulars, but in passing. The many things I do mention are quite obvious to anyone who cares to look, such as JFK, RFK, MLK, the so-called war on terror,Obama's record, Sept 11, 2001, etc. Obvious but hard to accept since it means this beautiful country is being run by criminals and charlatans. I do think a lot of regular people think it's all become a bad joke, but a bad joke they get pulled back into believing time and again. But I better stop before my response becomes too long. I appreciate your responses. We need a lot more dialogue in this country. Pax, Ed

Thanks for the personal response, Ed. I agree that the JFK assassination was a turning point, a time in which the CIA realized that they could assassinate a President and get away with it. ever since that time, the CIA has been bolder in committing atrocities here and abroad, and Presidents (small wonder) have been shy about standing up to them.

Excellent essay Edward.

The propaganda, lies, illusions, bread and circus, sleepwalking, and living in the dollhouse is infuriating and depression. People are so hungry to believe the fantasies that the lying has become absurd.

The Evil Empire, or Axis of Evil, the Troika of Tyranny; Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Iran, and North Korea are threats to US national security? What a sick joke.

There are just so many people in the world living under the boot of another "Hitler", that it is the moral duty of the US to bring them freedom and democracy? How is that working out for Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and Syria?

Everybody knows that the only ones benefiting are the war profiteers. But the country cannot afford universal healthcare and social security: "Where, oh where would the money come from?" Social programs have to be "revenue neutral" dontcha know.

Everybody knows that the JFK assassination was a conspiracy, but MLK and RFK are just "theories". 9/11 was an inside job and the Iraq War was based on lies; but Iran really does have WMD and "Animal Assad" is killing his own people just for the fun of it?....we must do something now, so that the public can relax and enjoy their stress free football and home delivery pizza.

People want to believe in fantasies and they are hard to give up. America is the greatest country and is number one in everything...right?

Thanks, David. Yes, Everybody knows what they don't want to know: that, as Leonard Cohen sings:

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

When you realize that you are not crazy is when the fear builds up inside. But I'd rather live with the fear than the crazy. Fear and I are very old traveling companions. And when the road ahead is dark and cold, any companion is a good one.

Excellent piece, Edward.

The frustration is - we're not going to be able to do anything about the dysfunction if so few are willing to see it for what it is. People are all to willing to continue to go along with things like Common Core and wifi in schools, mass vaccinations, our military in every corner of the planet. Can't shake up my own family: everything on MSM is viable information and all other sources are from someone's mom's basement and fake. Yes, it's that clearcut to them - no questioning allowed.

If seeing an artificial fringy sky day after day doesn't wake you up, nothing will. I was just sent this rubbish:

https://www.columbusmonthly.com/article/20140212/LIFESTYLE/302129558

I responded with this picture above Versailles - makes for nice vacation pics:

http://photos78.chemtrails-france.com/photos/versailles/2007-12-20/pages/2007-12-20_versailles_001.htm

I've ridden six hours in a car with these 'cloud lines' constantly overhead.

5G is the ultimate insanity. Already 4G and wifi/wigig are picking people off but they and the professionals refuse to recognize it as such. Two grandkids in my family are suffering tachycardia episodes at 6 amd 9 years old. When I asked if the cardiologists made any reference to the increased frequencies, the answer was no. Of course no one in the family is taking their tablets away or wiring the net.

Here's a lecture about what happened in a Toronto area school when wifi was put in:

https://smartmetercovers.com/blogs/smart-meter-cover-blog/is-wi-fi-in-schools-harming-our-children-the-testimony-of-rodney-palmer

Never could imagine the Twilight Zone was going to become a reality someday.
