Nothing is quieter than the gun lobby after a massacre. It could have to do with the bad guys who get guns at gun shows, the bad guys who fly through their background checks (like the last 16 mass shooters) and the people on the terror and no fly lists who can legally buy guns in the US--all thanks to the gun lobby.
In a few days the NRA and its companion groups will resume yelling "President Obama is going to confiscate all the guns" omitting the fact that he has to take 7,000 a day until his term ends to do this--a logistic and manpower impossibility.
It will also resume its mantra that the "real problem is mental illness" ignoring the fact that the whole world has mental illness but no country has the US's 10,000 gun homicides a year because they don't have the NRA.
Finally it will resume its call for MORE guns because more armed good guys will stop the bad guys who the NRA has armed. This sells a lot of guns but is an insult to the public's intelligence.
Still, Wayne LaPierre made just such a statement today.
