Editor's note: The 45th president's approval ratings remain steady despite numerous scandals and missteps. Below is a Oct. 29, 2018, column in which Hedges analyzes Donald Trump's seemingly indefatigable appeal. Hedges will return with a new column on Tuesday.

Cult leaders arise from decayed communities and societies in which people have been shorn of political, social and economic power. The disempowered, infantilized by a world they cannot control, gravitate to cult leaders who appear omnipotent and promise a return to a mythical golden age. The cult leaders vow to crush the forces, embodied in demonized groups and individuals, that are blamed for their misery. The more outrageous the cult leaders become, the more they flout law and social conventions, the more they gain in popularity. Cult leaders are immune to the norms of established society. This is their appeal. Cult leaders demand a God-like power. Those who follow them grant them this power in the hope that the cult leaders will save them.

Donald Trump has transformed the decayed carcass of the Republican Party into a cult. All cults are personality cults. They are extensions of the cult leaders. The cult reflects the leader's prejudices, worldview, personal style and ideas. Trump did not create the yearning for a cult leader. Huge segments of the population, betrayed by the established elites, were conditioned for a cult leader. They were desperately looking for someone to rescue them and solve their problems. They found their cult leader in the New York real estate developer and reality television show star. Only when we recognize Trump as a cult leader, and many of those who support him as cult followers, will we understand where we are headed and how we must resist.

It was 40 years ago next month that a messianic preacher named Jim Jones convinced or forced more than 900 of his followers, including roughly 280 children, to die by ingesting a cyanide-laced drink. Trump's refusal to acknowledge and address the impending crisis of ecocide and the massive mismanagement of the economy by kleptocrats, his bellicosity, his threats against Iran and China and the withdrawal from nuclear arms treaties, along with his demonization of all who oppose him, ensure our cultural and, if left unchecked, physical extinction. Cult leaders are driven, at their core, by the death instinct, the instinct to annihilate and destroy rather than nurture and create. Trump shares many of the characteristics of Jones as well as other cult leaders including Marshall Herff Applewhite and Bonnie Lu Nettles, the founders of the Heaven's Gate cult; the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, who led the Unification Church; Credonia Mwerinde, who led the Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God in Uganda; Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong; and David Koresh, who led the Branch Davidian cult in Waco, Texas. Cult leaders are narcissists. They demand obsequious fawning and total obedience. They prize loyalty above competence. They wield absolute control. They do not tolerate criticism. They are deeply insecure, a trait they attempt to cover up with bombastic grandiosity. They are amoral and emotionally and physically abusive. They see those around them as objects to be manipulated for their own empowerment, enjoyment and often sadistic entertainment. All those outside the cult are branded as forces of evil, prompting an epic battle whose natural expression is violence.

"A cult is a mirror of what is inside the cult leader," Margaret Thaler Singer wrote in "Cults in Our Midst." "He has no restraints on him. He can make his fantasies and desires come alive in the world he creates around him. He can lead people to do his bidding. He can make the surrounding world really his world. What most cult leaders achieve is akin to the fantasies of a child at play, creating a world with toys and utensils. In that play world, the child feels omnipotent and creates a realm of his own for a few minutes or a few hours. He moves the toy dolls about. They do his bidding. They speak his words back to him. He punishes them any way he wants. He is all-powerful and makes his fantasy come alive. When I see the sand tables and the collections of toys some child therapists have in their offices, I think that a cult leader must look about and place people in his created world much as a child creates on the sand table a world that reflects his or her desires and fantasies. The difference is that the cult leader has actual humans doing his bidding as he makes a world around him that springs from inside his own head."

George Orwell understood that cult leaders manipulate followers primarily through language, not force. This linguistic manipulation is a gradual process. It is rooted in continual mental chaos and verbal confusion. Lies, conspiracy theories, outlandish ideas and contradictory statements that defy reality and fact soon paralyze the opposition. The opposition, with every attempt to counter this absurdism with the rational -- such as the decision by Barack Obama to make his birth certificate public or by Sen. Elizabeth Warren to release the results of her DNA test to prove she has Native American ancestry -- plays to the cult leader. The cult leader does not take his or her statements seriously and often denies ever making them, even when they are documented. Lies and truth do not matter. The language of the cult leader is designed exclusively to appeal to the emotional needs of those in the cult.

"Hitler kept his enemies in a state of constant confusion and diplomatic upheaval," Joost A.M. Meerloo wrote in "The Rape of the Mind: The Psychology of Thought Control, Menticide, and Brainwashing." "They never knew what this unpredictable madman was going to do next. Hitler was never logical, because he knew that that was what he was expected to be. Logic can be met with logic, while illogic cannot -- it confuses those who think straight. The Big Lie and monotonously repeated nonsense have more emotional appeal in a cold war than logic and reason. While the enemy is still searching for a reasonable counter-argument to the first lie, the totalitarians can assault him with another."

The cult leader grooms followers to speak in the language of hate and violence. The cult leader constantly paints a picture of an existential threat, often invented, that puts the cult followers in danger. Trump is doing this by demonizing the caravan of some 4,000 immigrants, most from Honduras, moving through southern Mexico. Caravans of immigrants, are, in fact, nothing new. The beleaguered and impoverished asylum seekers, including many families with children, are 1,000 miles from the Texas border. But Trump, aided by nearly nonstop coverage by Fox News and Christian broadcasting, is using the caravan to terrify his followers, just as he, along with these media outlets, portrayed the protesters who flooded the U.S. capital to oppose the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh as unruly mobs. Trump claims the Democrats want to open the border to these "criminals" and to "unknown Middle Easterners" who are, he suggests, radical jihadists. Christian broadcasting operations, such as Pat Robertson's The 700 Club, splice pictures of marching jihadists in black uniforms cradling automatic weapons into the video shots of the caravan.

The fear mongering and rhetoric of hate and violence, as I saw in the former Yugoslavia, eventually lead to widespread acts of violence against those the cult leader defines as the enemy. The 13 explosive devices sent last week to Trump critics and leaders of the Democratic Party, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, along with George Soros, James Clapper and CNN, allegedly by Cesar Sayoc, an ex-stripper and fanatic Trump supporter who was living out of his van, herald more violence. Trump, tossing gasoline on the flames, used this assault against much of the leadership of the Democratic Party to again attack the press, or, as he calls it, "the enemy of the people." "A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News," he tweeted. "It has gotten so bad and hateful that is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its acts, FAST!"

It should come as no surprise that on Saturday another enraged American white male, his fury and despair seemingly stoked by the diatribes and conspiracy theories of the far right, entered a Pittsburgh synagogue and massacred eight men and three women as he shouted anti-Semitic abuse. Shot by police and arrested at the scene was Robert Bowers, who believes that Jewish groups are aiding the caravan of immigrants in southern Mexico. He was armed with a military-style AR-15 assault rifle, plus three handguns. The proliferation of easily accessible high-caliber weapons, coupled with the division of the country into the blessed and the damned by Trump and his fellow cultists, threatens to turn the landscape of the United States into one that resembles Mexico, where at least 145 people in politics, including 48 candidates and pre-candidates, along with party leaders and campaign workers, have been assassinated over the last 12 months, according to Etellekt, a risk analysis firm in Mexico. There have been 627 incidents of violence against politicians, 206 threats and acts of intimidation, 57 firearm assaults and 52 attacks on family members that resulted in 50 fatalities. Trump's response to the mass shooting at the synagogue was to say places of worship should have armed guards, a call for further proliferation of firearms. Look south if you want a vision of our future.

Domestic terrorism and nihilistic violence are the natural outcomes of the economic, social and political stagnation, the total seizure of power by a corporate cabal and oligarchic elite, and the contamination of civil discourse by cult leaders. The weaponization of language is proliferating, as seen in the vile rhetoric that characterizes many political campaigns for the midterm elections, including the racist robocall sent out against Andrew Gillum, an African-American candidate for the governorship of Florida. "Well, hello there. I is the negro Andrew Gillum and I'll be askin' you to make me governor of this here state of Florida," a man speaking in a caricature of a black dialect accompanied by jungle noises said in the robocall. Cults externalize evil. Evil is embodied in the demonized other, whether desperate immigrants, black political candidates and voters, or the Democratic Party. The only way to purge this "evil" and restore America to "greatness" is to eradicate these human contaminants.

The cult leader, unlike a traditional politician, makes no effort to reach out to his opponents. The cult leader seeks to widen the divisions. The leader brands those outside the cult as irredeemable. The leader seeks the omnipotence to crush those who do not kneel in adoration. The followers, yearning to be protected and empowered by the cult leader, seek to give the cult leader omnipotence. Democratic norms, an impediment to the leader's omnipotence, are attacked and abolished. Those in the cult seek to be surrounded by the cult leader's magical aura. Reality is sacrificed for fantasy. Those who challenge the fantasy are not considered human. They are Satanic.

Meerloo wrote:

"The dictator is not only a sick man, he is also a cruel opportunist. He sees no value in any other person and feels no gratitude for any help he may have received. He is suspicious and dishonest and believes that his personal ends justify any means he may use to achieve them. Peculiarly enough, every tyrant still searches for some self-justification. Without such a soothing device for his own conscience, he cannot live. His attitude toward other people is manipulative; to him, they are merely tools for the advancement of his own interests. He rejects the conception of doubt, of internal contradictions, or man's inborn ambivalence. He denies the psychological fact that man grows to maturity through groping, through trial and error, through the interplay of contrasting feelings. Because he will not permit himself to grope, to learn through trial and error, the dictator can never become a mature person. ... It is because the dictator is afraid, albeit unconsciously, of his own internal contradictions, that he is afraid of the same internal contradictions of his fellow man. He must purge and purge, terrorize and terrorize in order to still his own raging inner drives. He must kill every doubter, destroy every person who makes a mistake, imprison everyone who cannot be proved to be utterly single-minded."

I read this description of Socialist tRump yesterday and thought it appropriate to describe his supporters.

tRump pushes an old woman down, then helps her back up. He bloviates and tweets how he helped an old woman get up.

tRump admirers gleefully praise their "leader" for helping an old woman back to her feet!

A reasonable person points out to tRump admirers that he "pushed" the old woman down before he "helped" her back up.

tRump admirers now whine that you can't appreciate that tRump "helped" the woman back up, too involved in details of the event.

I use the word "Socialist" to describe Don the Con, for that is exactly what both he and his father used to build their "empire" with.

Chris is such an insightful writer, thinker. He needs to help those of us suffering mentally and emotionally from Trump chaos, by endorsing Bernie or Warren or other as our best hope to save the planet.

As a twice Jill Stein voter, solid Green backer- not going there this year. We cant afford the Electronic vote scammers to blame the Trump victory on the "third party candidate" and/or unaffiliated voter. This lunatic is crazy. Anyone registered as an Undeclared, better get themselves registered as Dem if you want to attempt to secure your vote. Registrations and outcome will be the only transparency and indication of voter intent. We are in trouble! Climate policy cannot wait for decades for the Green Party to grow. My solid Dem friends and family need guidance quick on which candidate to get behind. Chris has an opportunity to set the direction.

Trump was the horrific inevitability. It is precisely this illegitimate rogue president which the framers of the U.S. Constitution saw as the ruin of their newly created nation: A not-especially-bright narcissist; a dominating authoritarian who would exploit the democratic system they instituted to gain power and, once gained, would then violate and ultimately destroy the system for his own personal gain regardless of the sacred vow he has sworn.

They saw him coming.

Pelosi is right --Trump must be handcuffed and imprisoned for life. The French had to put Napoleon on his very own island. A super-prison.

Trump's adoration of Putin is treasonous.

Followers be damned!

By not impeaching W Bush, Pelosi essentially "paved the way" for "the likes of Trump" who is way more "authoritarian" than W Bush. Pelosi herself admitted Trump might not leave office voluntarily if he looses in 2020. Trump "got a taste" of "real power" as president, he is "settling" into his job and he may "run with it", win or lose.

This goes back to NOT punishing those involved in the Treason fomenting Iran-Contra weapons for cocaine scandal. Since these cretins were NOT hung for their offenses, the country and world had experienced the PNAC 9/11 and the farce War of Terror it spawned.

Now these Reagan War Criminals are creating unrest in the same 3rd world countries they harassed since the 80's, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Cuba; along with arch nemesis-Iran, even though they were exposed to have sold weapons to the "enemy."

Proving the Socialist POTUS tRump's administration packed with Bilderberg, CFR and other globalist stooges is alive, well and kicking; to follow the same agenda the Deep State set out over 40 years ago!

What behooves me is the mentally-challenged tRump supporter does not see the similarities of another GOP convert, joke of a B-rated actor Ronald Reagan. Whose life eerily mirrors tRumps, both being multiple adulterers/sexual predators, serial liars, and using their hypocritical religious bloviation s to sucker their base.

It frustrates me too when I hear Republicans say about migrants form Central America "Send them back to their own country, the violence and poverty in their country is their problem." Really????? After Reagan conducted an illegal war in their homeland when they were absolutely no threat to us, only to the rich elite there that he was defending? We will go anywhere in the world where "Communism" is an enemy, which translates to, "Anywhere that the people have become the impoverished working class slaves of the elite and the situation finally boils over into a revolution. Its not freedom and democracy we defend, its not even capitalism it is the oligarchy elite we swoop in to protect, murdering the people who stand up in protest. They should read about the murderous death squads in Guatemala. They were murdering people, gouging their eyes out, blow torching people and leaving the tortured bodies in public to terrorize the peasants into submission. If people in this country don't wake up they will find themselves too far in a hole to get out without the same kind of brutality. How can people support authoritarianism when we KNOW what it leads to?

The author, Chris Hedges, believes that a Trump cult was formed due to betrayal of established elites and were fascinated by Trump being a NY real estate developer and reality television show star. Then went on to portray a messianic preacher, Jim Jones, who killed 900 of his followers with cyanide to make a distasteful portrayal of Trump. But Chris got carried away by then citing dozens of other cult leaders to enforce his comparison that Trump was one of them.

What was outlandish and a lie, was Chris asserting that Trump has a death instinct, the instinct to annihilate and destroy rather than nurture and create and that Trump shares many of the characteristics of Jones as well as other cult leaders. Very nice to portray the President of the U.S. in that way.

But then, Chris starts to insult Trump's followers by writing, "He moves the toy dolls about (followers). They (followers) do his bidding. They (followers) speak his words back to him. He punishes them (followers) any way he wants. He is all-powerful and makes his fantasy come alive." Really, does Chris believe the American people are that stupid?

What Chris needs to do is take a look at the followers of the Democratic Party. They voted for Hillary Clinton even though she clearly caused "obstruction of justice" by deleting 33,000 e-mails, destroying her server and computer, and banging her I-phones with a hammer. Are the Democrats truly followers that are incapable of facing the truth of Hillary committing crimes that would put any of us in jail? Gee, is it possible that the Democrats are a cult that are unable to use logic to discern what is fair and what is unfair? It seems that lies and truth do not matter because Democrats are not able to use logic because they have no integrity as revealed by half the country voting for Hillary who is clearly a liar and a cheat.

Regarding Barack Obama, the reason that his birth certificate was in question is because he never told the truth that he was from of a long line of Muslims and his family was not from Africa. Still, he lied by claiming that he was an African-American. The National Media withheld the fact that Obama had, in fact, studied the Qur'an in keeping with his Muslim heritage and is really the first Muslin-American President. No wonder Obama made a sweet deal for Iran by giving them over 150 billion dollars as part of the Obama-Iran Nuclear treaty.

Chris is way off base as America allowed the immigration of over 132,000 immigrants in one month. It is a fact that the America people welcomes immigrants for many were immigrants themselves, but they want control of who is entering our country. Is that a bad thing? The Democrats don't give a damn even as American citizens are being attacked, drugs enter, schools are overcrowded, hospitals are not able to keep up quality of service, and taxes go up.

It is clear by the behavior of Democrats we find the rhetoric of hate and violence, which Obama himself was the prime instigator, by inciting blacks against whites. That is still going on today by leading Democrats.

What is alarming was the final paragraph by Chris in which he writes,

"Our only hope is to organize the overthrow of the corporate state that vomited up Trump. Our democratic institutions, including the legislative bodies, the courts and the media, are hostage to corporate power. They are no longer democratic. We must, like liberation movements of the past, engage in acts of sustained mass civil disobedience and non-cooperation."

What organization does Chris profess to belong to? Is it the liberal movement that always seeks justice and equality or overthrow corporations and the legislative bodies? It appears that Chris does have a legitimate argument if he recognizes that it is the military industrial complex (MIC) he should be informing and educating Americans about.

Americans still are ignorant that it is the MIC that under top-secret operations have developed zero-point energy and anti-gravity capabilities, which are employed in operational air craft for space travel. Such developments can benefit mankind, eliminate poverty, correct climate change, and prepare mankind for interstellar space.

Chris, use your energy for worthwhile purposes and try to make America great again. This is the best country in the world that gives you the liberty to express your views even if they appear to seem illogical to me.

Pay some attention to this...it is, incredibly, what many actually think. Debunking may take time doing point by point....but easy enough. Or, maybe this msg is a mock of Trumpianism?

I'm NO Democrat globalist stooge Obama/Killery supporter, but one of the first things Ronald Reagan did as president was to unfreeze Iranian assets held in the USA. As part of the secret deal it struck with Iran in holding the hostages till after the 1980 election, to secure a Reagan victory. This is the action of a Traitor, to negotiate with the "enemy!"

tRump's trade war is costing the country over 1.4 billion a month in China's favor. Socialist tRump is now bailing out bankrupt farmers affected by his phony tariff war while his family products made in China are tariff exempt. The government shutdown cost billions of $'s. The Border Wall is both an environmental and humanitarian blight upon our country's character.

Your support for tRump certainly will do nothing to promote climate change in a positive manner. Mid-west tRump supporters are underwater and their God is really pissed off they were stupid enough to state their God is using tRump to further the religious agenda. The only thing tRump has done is to appease one religious sect while enraging another, who were forced off their lands to appease the mythical book Bible believers that apartheid Israel be created; after British spy Hitler was set up to lose WWII.

tRump, like Obama were/are chosen to continue these policies set out a long time ago, by the few who control world affairs.

Nicholas,

Although I would agree with the fact that there are some on the left who exhibit a similar type of cult like denial when it comes to their leaders I think what is happening on the left is different in many aspects and I hope you will hear me out on this.

The main stream media, both left and right are corporations with their own bias and agenda. Trying to get the actual truth on an issue of government from this, even if you look at both channels to get their perspective is like taking a witness statements from two different drunks at the scene of a bank robbery. Not only are you combating the fact that human observation is subjective but you are also dealing with the intoxication which like the agenda of the different channels, distorts their ability to be truthful. So what happens with people like me who want to get the full story there is a lot of times a media blackout on certain things, especially war mongering because both sides fully support the military industrial complex. My experience however is that progressives actually want to learn about the corruption in government and when they find out about things like Obama's expanding the Surveillance state, or Joe Biden using his VP status for his son to make money in China, or Hillary's play for pay and Wall St. servitude, we will acknowledge the wrong doing and ask for accountability. That's why there is a huge split between establishment democrats and progressives right now. Now there are some who act like Hillary is infallible and rationalize every corrupt thing she does, like Bill Maher, but he has lost many people because he blindly supports Hillary regardless.

On the right however, the language and psychology, which is what Chris is referring to more so than Trump specifically, is one of loyalty over reason. In this regard I totally agree with him. I have tried to engage Trump supporters in an honest conversation but when they are confronted any fact that would cause them to question Trump they will instinctively and reflexively defend Trump. Even when Trump has been caught 100 percent lying, and you can literally compare videos and transcripts where he does an absolute reversal of what he said, his defenders will not admit he is lying. When they become flustered, Trump himself gives them an easy out by just chanting "fake news" at things they can't explain. When he is caught red handed he plays the victim, talking about how unfair he is treated and his followers rally to defend him. Trump swells up on this adulation and even brags about it stating that he could shoot someone in the middle of 5th Avenue and his supporters would still stand by him, adding that his followers because of this "are the best". It is Trump himself that mocks your intelligence, not Chris. He is merely pointing out that even when Trump makes a mockery of you and struts at your obedience, you still continue to follow him. But its not stupidity that Chris attributes this to and I have never heard him insult of call any Trump supporter stupid. What he says is that people who fall under the sway of a personality to the point that they refuse to acknowledge any flaws, that they can accept no criticism, that they become protective and hostile when defending indefensible behavior and when they show an almost godlike reverence for their leader, that they are people who follow a leader because of emotions that they have which over rides their logic. Many times its fear (kn the case of immigrants), sometimes its pride "Make America Great Again", sometimes its anger but whatever drives them the emotion is so intense they can not think logically.

For example your statements about Obama, his birth certificate and Iran are perfect examples. The version of facts you state are cut and paste from conservative news outlets. Fox News repeats the lie that Obama gave 150 billion dollars to Iran which is flatly incorrect. The money "given" to Iran was their own money which the United States and other countries, the UK, France and others basically just confiscated and refused to give back. When Fox and Trump make the comment that Obama "gave" Iran 150 billion for nothing but can't give 5 billion for the border its total nonsense. The border money is tax dollars, the money released to Iran was their money and the United States actually controlled a small portion of the overall amount returned to Iran. As for claims that Obama is somehow the first Muslim president and he reads the Koran, I can only say, ask the people of Syria, many of whom are Muslim if they consider him a loyal brother after he ran out of bombs destroying their country.

https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2018/apr/27/donald-trump/donald-trump-iran-150-billion-and-18-billion-c/

Another example of the incoherence of people who portray Trump as being some kind of savior, a true patriot, a moral religious man sent by God to upend the immorality of the government, how do the people who believe this reconcile Trumps very public past with this image? Why do they balk at his having had an affair with a porn star when his current wife posed on his private jet in porn worthy outfits and he has a child from an affair he had on his first wife? How to they reconcile this current fantasy with the fact that Trump was a life long democrat who was friends with and donated to Hillary and believed in abortion up until he wanted the vote of the Christian right? How do they buy this new America First "branding" when Trump has shown he is an absolute globalist when it comes to his own business dealings and will make money even if it compromises national security.

You have to be willing to open your eyes to the flaws of a leader, even one you like. If you refuse then perhaps Chris article is true of you as well.

I voted for Obama and I admit he was bad president. I never would have voted for Hillary because I could see her corruption. Why can't Trump people see he is a bad president when its right there in front of them.

What an amazing, dead on article. I have often mulled this over in my own mind, starting years ago when I felt like the corporation I worked for was exhibiting cult like behavior and after Trump got elected I was even more convinced of a larger cult movement that did not require but had much in common with religious cults. Thank you for pulling all of this together in such a coherent way. I wonder if there is an underlying neurological bass for why some people are more susceptible to cult thinking than others. I wish we could understand how to break through to the people in cults but the methods used to isolate the members and make them distrust everything and everyone outside the cult makes it so hard. We have to keep trying to make people aware of this manipulation which I agree is driven by corporatism.

Dear Michele,

Thank you for a very well written reply. I learned and you reminded me of things about the deals that were made between Obama and Iran. I thank you for that.

I see that you, like me, respect honesty, integrity and the truth. You helped me to have a better understanding of progressive views and like you, I am also waiting to learn about the corruption in government, especially the FBI and CIA involvement in working with Hillary to defame Trump. This, to me and many citizens, is the greatest behind the scenes crime in history of the U.S. to overthrow the President. It reveals that much hate dominates our political system whereby the Democrats and Republicans, who should be working for the well-being of all citizens, are destroying working relationships because of pride and control of power. Thank you for opening my eyes that there is, indeed, a huge split between establishment democrats and progressives right now.

Your second paragraph is chock full of negatives for Trump and his followers. In many respects, you are right. However, I have not found Trump lies that would hurt the country or its citizens. Perhaps, you could furnish the lies that danger the lives of Americans. To bring up a stupid statement that Trump made about killing somebody on 5th avenue and still retaining the support of his followers is simply a petty sound bite that is over emphasized when smart people know he was making an analogy of his outstanding support and the Democrats want to crucify him for that. We know that just as the 5th avenue remark, everything Trump says that could be misinterpreted is done so by the "fake media."

Of all the good, positive things Trump has done, most of the American people believe that he is a strong force that loves this country. For me to name every positive achievement would take several paragraphs but I would not do that because I know you are intelligent and honest to recognize that President Trump has done more for this country that the past two presidents. Yet, the National Media will not give any credit to Trump because they are part of the establishment. Most of the media has been bought over and controlled to fight Trump's accomplishments. In fact, they are part of the military industrial complex (MIC) that has kept secret the development of zero-point energy and anti-gravity. These two technological advancements could easily change our world within two decades by eliminating poverty, the climate change threat, and allow mankind to venture into interstellar space.

Do you know that the MIC has already duplicated the technology of an alien space craft and have built operable aircraft for space travel in the past ten years? The MIC has strong control of extremely top-secret operations that not even any of our presidents have been read into and not given any means of accountability. Here is an area where Americans should make their voices heard otherwise, they will continually be made into fools with "fake news" and unceasing man-made wars.

Regarding fear and anger in America, I must say that it has been demonstrated more by Democrats. Only yesterday I said "hello" to a never-Trumper, a neighbor of mine, and she sent out an e-mail to my wife that she does not want any hellos from a Trump supporter. Wow, my first-hand experience with hate. It must be true that many Democrats are delusional with a hate-Trump syndrome.

By the way, my statements about Obama was not about his birth certificate but that he is truly a Muslim, born from a long family history of Muslims. There is written proof from the elementary school he attended that he was schooled in the Qur'an for a few years. The fact is, Obama's people are not from Africa, which means that he is not African-American; that was put out by the fake news media to gain the black vote. In truth, Obama is the U.S. first Muslim-American President. The bombing of people in Syria were Sunnis and Obama is a Shiite supporter of Iran. Sunnis and Shiites have long been at war with each other, where Shiites believe in inheritance of control via Muhammad and Sunnis believe in voting for their leader that has natural leadership abilities.

Michelle, to bring up Trump's affair before becoming president is petty and has nothing to do with him being an outstanding president. This was also true of Bill Clinton who had sex in the White House an even greater offence. What's this crap about his wife posing as a porn star in his private jet? Even so, did he hurt the dignity of American citizens? Is what goes on in the bedroom or private jet great news to bring down and defame the president? How many times has Joe Biden changed his views on abortion? Here again, these are all petty remarks about Trump and they have nothing to do with his exceptional ability to run the country.

I am willing to open my eyes and agree with all the petty remarks made by Democrats but note, they do not congratulate him for his accomplishments. It is impossible, in all fairness, to say Trump is a "bad" president when he has pumped up the standard of living for many, many Americans and increased the job market to the point that we can accept immigrants into our country. He just wants to do it legally. But the Democrats do not want to change the laws to solve the problem.

Michelle, I enjoyed reading your critique of President Trump. But hey, he is a lot better than Obama was, who created the greatest deficit than all the other presidents combined and deliberately caused division between blacks and whites.

Nicholas,

Thank for your response and for the ability to have civil disagreement. The things I mentioned about Trump in the second paragraph that you referred to as petty are as you pointed out "past acts" and are not overwhelmingly significant but pointing them out was an attempt to establish that Trump has a long, very public life which can be reviewed if ine ia unsure of his motives and integrity. You and I are not friends of Donald Trump and do not have first hand experience with him so if there ia a disagreement on whether he is a misogynist or whether he has racist beliefs, whether is a success or failure as a business man, or whether he lies, we have to look at the entire body of his interactions that are known and documented to form that opinion. If a man had an affair on his first wife, it does affect his credibility in regards to whether he had an affair on his second wife. If Trump was dishonest in regards to his business dealings or taxes for example, that demonstrates something of who he is as a person. There is some hard evidence that can be examined about Trump all of which his supporters either refuse to acknowledge or they rationalize, falling quickly to the defense that Trump has been victimized by the media. Although I can acknowledge bias in the media is a real thing, it goes too far to excuse everything as "fake news". It is irresponsible to be dismissive in thia total, blanketing way juat as it is irresponsible to believe every negative thing you hear. Trump supports use the words "Trump Derangement Syndrome" as a cutesy way to dismiss what migjt be a valid criticism if they took the time to investigate it. Yet they see nothing "deranged" about professing Trump to be pure as the driven snow or as thw best president ever.

I am an investigator and of course investigators like hard evidence, forensics and video footage but circumstantial evidence, when there is a lot of it, can provide the basis for a good case and should not be ignored. The problem is, and I think this was the point Chris was making, and thosee who use the "Trump Derangement Syndrome" are ALSO making, that emotion either obsessive loyalty or obsessive hatred, removes the ability to critically examine the facts rationally.

Thanks again,

Take Care

Michele
