Eclipse Season
We're entered eclipse season, which occurs twice a year. The Moon's nodes are now in the early degrees of Libra (North Node) and Aries (South Node). These points in space indicate where the planes of Earth, Sun and Moon intersect. So these eclipses are our final reboot of the energies around the issue of Self (Aries) and Other (Libra) before the nodes change signs to Virgo/Pisces late in October. It's time to change the way we see ourselves in relation to other people.
The old way (Aries) is to think we have to do everything ourselves--the old idea of 'rugged individualism'. Me vs. them. Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. Not asking for help. The new way (Libra) sees that it's all about 'us'. It's about how we need each other to thrive. How partnering up with others makes things easier. How we need to be helping each other achieve our goals. This doesn't mean giving over our power to others--rather it's about power-sharing and cooperation. Libra is the diplomat, the energy that is willing to negotiate rather than demand 'my way or the highway' like Aries might. Diplomacy has won out on the world stage, following the cosmic directions. It's good to see the world moving to our cosmic instructions. Otherwise, we'd have a disaster (dis-aster= to go against the stars)!
Eclipses form extra powerful New and Full Moons which signal major endings and beginnings. They disrupt old energy patterns so new ones can form. This partial Solar Eclipse and the 4th Blood Moon Total Lunar Eclipse on September 27-28 bring back and resolve issues we had in 1996-97. What was going on for you then? How will you resolve those issues now?
Virgo New Moon
This Virgo Solar Eclipse indicates a new beginning for you in the area or house where 21* Virgo lies in your chart. The Lunar Nodes cycle back to the same degrees in roughly 18+ years, creating solar and lunar eclipse cycles. These eclipses give us opportunities for new beginnings and endings in certain areas of life as indicated in our birth charts. In my chart this degree lies in my 4th house of the emotional body, home and roots, and I am establishing a new home base for myself, just as I did in 1997, the last time there was an eclipse on this degree. But cycles are also about growth, so the big question is how I'll engage in this new home differently then when I moved back to RI in 1997. How have I changed and how do I need to change the way I root myself here? What do I want to create in my new home and new life? Looking back to August 1979 (another nodal cycle) when I was moving to Zurich to train at the Jung Institute, I see the repeating pattern that this series of eclipses brings into my life.
New Moons are seed times. Navigating through this transition will establish a pattern, so I have to use my Virgo Solar Eclipse energy to imagine and create a viable form for my energies.
Where is 21* Virgo in your chart and how does it relate to the events in your life back in 1997? 1979? How is this go-around different or the same?
The Virgo Solar Eclipse occurs on September 12-13th and is a partial eclipse which can only be seen in the very southern part of the globe. But its effects will be felt by all of us. The New Moon occurs on September 12th at 11:41pm PDT and on September 13th at 2:41am EDT/ 6:41am GMT.
The Sabian symbol for the New Moon at 21* Virgo is: A girl's basketball team. This image speaks to the work of Feminine Spirit. It is cooperative, working together to achieve a goal. The Divine Feminine has returned to the world, bringing her blessings of Wisdom, Love and Unity. We are all one and if we learn to work together, anything is possible. The Divine Feminine nurtures Life and accepts the necessary death of the old. Let us work together to bring to birth a new paradigm for society--one in which we all have a purpose and aren't afraid to bring it to the table.
The Virgo New Moon eclipse empowers us to use discernment, enhance our talents and integrate our soul's purpose. While we tend to think of Virgo as a controlling, precise and perfectionistic sign and energy, Virgo just wants us to 'belong to ourselves' by knowing ourselves on a soul level. It is about integrating body, soul and spirit to find our wholeness--and holiness.
Virgo is both Virgin and Mother, symbolized by the many Mother Goddesses who hold their Divine Child in their laps. Whether we see Her as the Blessed Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child, Isis nursing her Divine Son Horus or Demeter and her daughter Persephone, this humble sign holds the power to birth the Divine Spirit in our lives. And that divine Spirit tells us that we are partners in everlasting life with Spirit. Just as Demeter and Persephone symbolize both the Harvest and the Seed, in Virgo we learn that what we give birth to has a life of its own which in turn will give birth to more life. I've written about this great mystery in my Lady Wisdom Chronicles which you can find here.
So wholeness is the gift of Virgo to us. And with this sense of wholeness, we come to the humble realization that we are here on Earth to be of service, another great Virgo trait. Are we only here on Earth to work and consume or is there a larger purpose in life? I just heard someone mention that in America, we are no longer referred to as citizens, but as 'consumers'. That has to make you think that there's something basically wrong with our capitalistic culture. We are now only cogs in an economic system, rather than citizens whose economic system serves us.
