"Knowledge does not enrich us; it removes us more and more from the mythic world in which we were once at home by right of birth."
(C.G. Jung, Memories,Dreams, Refletions, Ch. 9)
Twice a year, when the Sun and Moon oppose each other in Gemini and Sagittarius, our focus turns to the Mind. The Gemini mind is quick and curious, picking up facts and spinning them into new possibilities. It likes invention and isn't opposed to a bit of manipulation, just for the fun of it. The Gemini Mind loves information, and it certainly loves the Internet, where we get an overload of information but perhaps without any or all of it necessarily being true. At its best, the Gemini Mind unites our rational and intuitive ways of knowing. At its worst, it is the trickster magician who can make us see the illusions it wants us to see.
The Sagittarius Mind wants to find the Truth. It looks for meaning instead of information, and would rather spend a lifetime seeking that Truth. The Sagittarius Mind shoots its arrows into the heart of the Galaxy, where we find the Milky Way spread across the night sky. It doesn't mind mystery and darkness because it knows the quest takes us through that darkness into the source of light. The Sagittarius mind unites the body and soul, the physical and spiritual, Heaven and Earth. It wants to know the Cosmic Laws of life and then live by them. At its worst, the Sagittarius Mind is the fanatical, dogmatic insistence that it owns the Truth.
With the Sun in Sagittarius, our self-awarenss is focused on finding our own Truth, a truth that is universal and yet personal. Through the lens of the Gemini Moon, our quickly changing moods and rapid-fire thoughts can divert us, keep us unsettled, making it harder to discern the Truth that the Sagittarius Sun is looking for. Or it can give us the information we need to Believe.
Gemini Full Moon
The Gemini Full Moon occurs on Wednesday, November 25 th at 2:44pm PST/ 5:44pm EST/10:44pm GMT. This Full Moon wants us to balance our Gemini need to know with our Sagittarius need for Wisdom. Not all information is Wise.
The Sabian Symbol for the Sun at 4* Sagittarius is: A little child learning to walk with the encouragement of his parents. This image implies that we are being helped to grow and find our freedom, since walking certainly gives children a greater freedom to move around and ahead. In learning to balance on our own two feet, we achieve the independence of our own unique standpoint. What new standpoint are you discovering as we find our new balance in this changing world?
The Sabian Symbol for the Moon at 4* Gemini is: Holly and mistletoe reawaken old memories of Christmas. Memories bypass our rational mind and open us to the imaginative, feeling mind of the heart and right brain. These memories bring back the feelings of magic, wonder and suspense that children experience during the holiday season. It's a primal experience that we loose as we grow up. That sense of 'What magic is going to happen?'
Mistletoe is a magical plant, sacred to the ancient Druids, used primarily for fertility and as an aphrodisiac--kissing under the mistletoe! It is also associated with the Moon and rebirth as well as vision. Holly is also a sacred bush and symbolizes protection, clear thoughts and healing. Its dark green leaves and bright red berries open our eyes and hearts to the color and beauty of life, especially in the cold and dark of the Winter Solstice.
So once again, we are reminded to let the heart and our feelings lead the way to our freedom.
Aspects to this Full Moon
Venus and Mars in Libra connect us once again to the energies of the waning Pluto in Capricorn/Uranus in Aries square. We keep getting aligned to this revolutionary and evolutionary energy. We'll keep doing it until we 'get it'!
