The Cosmic Story: 2 nd Sagittarius Full Moon June 20, 2016

" A crucial dimension of this imbalance (between Masculine and Feminine Spirit) in the West is the stunted growth of our mystical awareness and the under-development of our mystical brain. Our brains are amazingly complex creations of time, nature, and divinity. Part of what we know about the brain is that the right and left hemispheres perform different tasks. The left lobe accomplishes analytic and verbal processes for us, and the right lobe accomplishes the synthetic, sensual and mystical tasks. Western civilization, which dominates the globe today, has invested almost exclusively in left-brain processes in education, politics, economics and religion." Matthew Fox, Coming of the Cosmic Christ , p. 18.

On June 20 th , hours before the Summer Solstice, there is another Full Moon in the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius, which emphasize the realm of the Mind--our ability to think, learn, communicate, commune, explore, discover, create, imagine and intend. Coming so close to one of the power gates of the year intensifies the power of this Full Moon. It sets the stage for the Solstice's Sacred Union of Heaven and Earth. Since this Full Moon is also aligned with the center of the Milky Way Galaxy, invoke your imagination to dive deeply into the Cosmic Mind and to discover your place in the scheme of things. We have to learn to think with our mystical brain--the one that connects us to all of LIFE.

I believe this 2 nd Sagittarius Full Moon is the real BLUE MOON , when there are two Full Moons in a zodiac sign rather than in a man-made calender month. The last time there were two Full Moons in the same sign was in July-August, 2013 in the signs of Leo/Aquarius. Sometimes the lunar cycle switch occurs with two New Moons and sometimes it is two Full Moons in a sign; both lunar flips force us to weave different energies together, flipping the sequence of the new and full Moon cycle. Of course, all these flips occur because there are 13 Moon cycles in a lunar year and we force those natural cycles to conform to our 12 month solar year.

So, once in a blue Moon . We get to do something special. Something magical can happen, once in a blue Moon. Summer Solstice celebrates the divine marriage of Heaven and Earth, so this is a great time to direct the magic of life, once in a blue Moon. May the magic of life bless us in these dangerous, beautiful times.

This Sagittarius Full Moon at the last degree of both Gemini and Sagittarius can bring us to a new awareness of the truth of our lives. Gemini's mind is our organizational ability to perceive and gather facts about how the world 'works' (like the Internet) but Gemini needs Sagittarius' larger perspective and understanding to give meaning to what we've learned. Is our understanding of life aligned with Cosmic Laws; are we living in harmony with Nature and the Cosmos? I would say that our civilization is out of touch with Spiritual law. This is the Kali Yoga, after all. Which means each of us are responsible for our personal alignment with these life forces, because our culture is not teaching us these values. As we transition through the death of our patriarchal civilization, remember that a new one can arise out of the ashes, like the Phoenix. One that is aligned with Nature and Spirit.

This Full Moon can help us become aware of what is most important to our spiritual growth, which is Sagittarius' objective. As we deepen our understanding of Life, we nurture our souls through an expansive vision, an inclusive vision and a truthful vision. As the sign of Cosmic Law (and our mortal laws and religions), Sagittarius is a teacher, a philosopher, a priestess who helps us grow our souls. Sag's ruling planet Jupiter is in Virgo now, the sign of the mentor, while Saturn, the planet of personal authority is in the sign of Sagittarius, advising us to live our beliefs and stand for that Truth.

We're seeing a lot of the negative ways people are standing up for their truth--the Orlando shootings, the bigotry of Trump's campaign, the anger and hatred thrown at Hillary Clinton from all sides, the ongoing wars in the Middle East. How can we defeat Hatred when we are full of hate--even if we feel we are on the side of right. We contribute to the chaos when we plunge into the negativity. We let our Shadow show when we choose to judge. Stepping back to see the bigger picture is important now. We've all created this mess together, so how will we change things if we stand in the negative energies of hatred, anger and righteous indignation ( Old French indignacion "fury, rage; disrespect").

We need a new Mind, a new way to confront the violence of our civilization. It seems to me we all are being called on to open our minds to higher wisdom and embrace our essential Truth--another Sagittarius gift. This will probably require us to 'shift our minds' in a way that creates new neural pathways that incorporate magical forms of thinking that are aligned with Cosmic Truth and Love.

Do we live soulfully in a soulless world? Are we in the world but not 'of it'? Do we listen to what our soul really desires and act on it? Do we know our higher purpose? Do we know our Truth?

The combination of Gemini and Sagittarius asks: can we stand up for our Truth while also allowing others to stand up for theirs--if we also allow for the pagan truth of 'Do as you will as long as you harm none'. Do we own the whole 'Truth' or do we have to own our particular Truth (which can change from lifetime to lifetime as we learn different soul lessons)? And if we can accept those other Truths as valid in some way (Gemini), can we find a way to act on shared values with others? With Mars' retrograde in late Scorpio, we do have a chance to work with others who have different but compatible truths, since Scorpio ultimately wants to share values and Mars is the energy of action.

Look at American politics. Trump is the classic, unconscious Gemini Con Man--he talks a good talk (Gemini communication) and expresses what's been eating away in the Shadow of our American psyche-- how do we white folks stay on top when minorities are making us the minority? The mess the world's in is someone else's fault. My god is the only true god! We might not like Trump and what he stands for, but he is obviously touching a nerve with many people on both sides of the issues. We can call him out on his beliefs (he does have a Sagittarius Moon so he thinks he owns THE TRUTH) but many other people in America agree with him. Hillary is the other side of our American Shadow--if you're a woman who wants to contribute to the larger world, do what the big boys want you to do and they'll let you play with them. So it's not about him or her but rather points to a systemic problem. The American psyche is sick and afraid and overwhelmed by a negative masculine dominating energy which wants to strike out and blame others for our own misdeeds or huddle under the shelter of corporate greed. It's time to look at our collective Shadow and heal it.

The question that comes to me is this. Can we really live the American dream of being a 'melting pot' where all citizens come together in support of the central American ideal--FREEDOM? I've heard a lot about how Bernie supporters are 'too idealistic' but isn't that what our country was founded on? The ideals of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness? Of Freedom! What's wrong with wanting to live up to our ideals? The answer is there's nothing wrong, just as long as we actually stand up for them and do something about them. We can't just talk the talk (which is what politicians and corporations do) we have to walk the talk .
