Well, our astrological new year started off with a bang, didn't it?  A new birth indeed!  During the Sun's journey in Aries, the world watched as old adversaries squared off again but didn't go to war; we saw the US Supreme Court pretty much say that money equals free speech; disasters occurred which broke people's hearts; there was a mystery disappearance; wars continued around the world and in our backyards.  When we look at what's happening in the world, it seems we must keep repeating the same mistakes over again until we all get it.

But that's the old story, and it's on its way out of the picture.  It's time for humans to evolve and create a sustainable, peaceful, equal, free global society.  This new story is building and growing--we are becoming responsible for our lives and our world.  It is a story based on the belief that we are all connected and all part of one Earth.  With Neptune inhabiting his own sign of Pisces, the old stories of empire-building, of domination, of individualism and separation are being dissolved back into the collective unconscious for renewal.  The World Soul is working on a new story for all of us and for the Earth.  We have to stop, stay still and listen so we can hear what that new story is.

The Blood Moon eclipse got plenty of press so that people actually stayed up to watch it.  While some religious people saw it as a sign of coming disaster, many others watched it with new eyes that are beginning to appreciate the beauty and mystery of our Earth once again.  It seems fitting that the new energies being birth this month waited until the Sun entered the sign of Taurus, the sign most concerned with the Earth and our human stewardship of it.

Taurus--Getting Us Back to the Garden

The Sun entered the sign of Taurus on April 19th, just hours before the Grand Cardinal Cross began to perfect.  On Easter Sunday, April 20th, Jupiter in Cancer aligned with Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn.  On Monday, April 21st, Uranus and Pluto perfected their 5th square.  On Tuesday, April 22nd--Earth Day, Mars retrograde in Libra aligned with Jupiter and on Wednesday, April 23rd, Mars connected with Uranus and Pluto.  Click, click, click, click.  This womb of transformative energies locked into form a matrix which can energize a new sense of Self-hood within each of us as well as a strong vision for a new society.  Read about the Cosmic Grand Cross.

The new story has to be about our relationship with the Earth and each other.  The feminine values of relationship, connection and union are the foundation of this new society and new sense of Self.  Patriarchy has promoted an ideal of individual self-hood that has lost connection with others and with the Earth.  Along with that ideal arose the rejection of feminine values and the devaluing of women and feminine ways of knowing as well as the rape of the Earth.  This rejection of the feminine has led to a loss of Wisdom in our society.  Sometimes we are sadly lacking in the compassion and wisdom that are basic moral and cosmic laws.  That's why we seem headed for dis-aster, which means 'going against (dis) the stars (aster)' or the ordained laws of life.

As we learned to control and use the Earth, we found that we could also control our instinctual nature, and the mind and the ideal of pure spirit became more important than the body and its experience of soul. We removed ourselves from living contact with our Mother Earth: by covering the land over with our cities and roads; by explaining Her mysteries as scientific facts and nothing more; by living in our heads rather than in our bodies.  We substituted a one-dimensional observing of life for the wisdom of the experience of life.

Taurus is a fixed earth sign, concerned with the material world and life of the body.  Our new story has to include the wisdom that the material world is just as full of spirit and cosmic energy as those ideals of the Mind that have shaped the best aspects of patriarchy.   Our task is to find a balanced relationship with matter--with our bodies, with the things we possess and with the environment we live in.

Taurus is a sign that is ruled over by the Goddess Aphrodite/Venus, whose gifts to us are beauty and joy, sexuality and the mystery of the body, fertility and growth, connection and peace, love and wisdom.  Very feminine values that need to be incorporated back into our culture at the most basic levels.  We have created an ugly society because we haven't valued Aphrodite's gifts unless we are using them to enhance a patriarch objective--like ornate casinos in the desert that create an illusion of comfort as we gamble away our resources for their profit.

During the Sun's journey through Taurus, Aphrodite entices us to remember the Garden and the possibility of love, joy, beauty and new life.

So it seems only right that we start this cosmic new birth in Taurus, a sign most concerned with the environment (Earth Day is in the beginning of Taurus), with the Earth and with our bodies.

Earth Song

Listen to things more often than beings.
Hear the voice of the fire, hear the voice of the water,
Listen in the wind to the sighing of the bush:
This is the ancestors breathing.
Those who are dead are never gone;
The dead are not down in the earth:
They are in the trembling of the trees,
In the groaning of the woods,
In the water that runs, in the water that sleeps,
They are in the hut, they are in the crowd.
Those who are dead are not ever gone;
They are in the woman's breast, they are in the wailing of a child,
They are in the burning log and in the moaning rock.
They are in the weeping grasses, in the forest and the home.
Listen to things more often than beings.
Hear the voice of fire, hear the voice of water.
Listen in the wind to the sighing of the bush.
This is the ancestors breathing.
