I already voted and the choice was clear. Even though I voted for Barack Obama, I am afraid that he will win. I'm not afraid because God forbid he will be harmed, I am afraid because he will be taking on an insurmountable task.
Before the second Gulf war, Colin Powell told Bush about the pottery barn effect, which is if you break it then you own it. Barack Obama has not broken this country, but will be looked upon to fix it and I fear that the pieces are scattered far and wide.
Saddled with a national debt of 11 trillion dollars, (that's over $35,000 for every person, (therefore a family of four is $140,000 in debt), an ever increasing unemployment rate, foreclosures at an all time high, Afghanistan and Pakistan becoming more incendiary along with increasing stock market volatility, the task is daunting to say the least.
An old song goes spinning through my mind by Richard Harris, MacArthur's Park. The lyrics are Macarthur's park is melting in the dark all the sweet green icing flowing down someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it cause it took so long to bake it and I'll never have that recipe again, Oh no. Is the vase permanently broken and is the recipe lost forever. Many are looking toward Obama as a political messiah. I fear the over expectation and political reality will render us bewildered.
This should be a time of hope and if anyone can bring this country together, it would be Obama. We have seen how incredible Barack Obama has run his campaign, now if he can run the country just as well. Only an Obama presidency, a faith in God and a willingness for change can keep us from being dumped into the bin of repeating history. Heaven help us all.
