House Democrats remain in a state of confusion about whether or not they should impeach President Trump. "Should we, can we, yes we can, no we can't. Speaker Pelosi continues to waffle, saying that the American people are not strongly behind such action, and the polls back up her observations. But she doesn't seem to understand that, by her negative statements about the chances of initiating an impeachment, she is adding to their reluctance to call for it.

Let's take a closer look at those polls to better understand who is for and who is not for impeachment. Most polls indicate that 72% of Democratic supporters back it. 39% of independents do, while only 8 percent of Republicans agree. It's important to note that up to 61% of independents, a very important segment of voters, are not yet for it.

Most Americans are hesitant because they feel that Senate Republicans will not vote in favor of it and that it will only serve to improve Trump's chances of reelection. While the majority do not favor impeachment polls also indicate that they, most definitely, want to have him removed from office; that's also true of Republicans commonly referred to as "never Trumpers."

So, while the official House impeachment process is still on the table, let's take a look at another, alternative form of impeachment. Americans have watched Republicans accomplish nothing of substance, act as no more than obstructionists, and constantly bend to the dictates of Trump. Enough is enough and now it is time for Americans to use their own form of impeachment against the Republican Party and its members, taking them down in the 2020 and subsequent elections.

Americans, as they initiate this process, face no such obstacle as Republica obstructive power and that's why they can and will do what Democrats in Congress are unable to. But, here's what they can do to greatly assist the people in removing this totally unfit president from the Oval Office.

The Judiciary Committee has taken steps to open a formal Impeachment inquiry which will open the door to strengthening and expanding its investigative powers. It will also expedite court decisions on such things as the committee's need to negate Trump's attempts to prevent key witnesses such as Don McGahn from testifying.

The committee will use the Mueller report to clearly identify the many instances of Trump's obstruction of justice and then it will work to gather far more evidence of his payoffs to silence Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, the many times that Trump associates had contacts with Russians, relative to his tax returns, as well as his violations of the Emoluments Clause; and who knows what else?

When the committee presents its conclusions Trump might as well resign and head out of Washington because he will be portrayed as the most corrupted of all US presidents. It will be crystal clear that he committed high crimes and misdemeanors. Then there will be no question but that the vast majority of Americans will understand that he must go.

At that point, a very important decision will have to be made relative to going ahead with formal impeachment or, instead, let the American people take it from there. I have this feeling that they will do the latter.

Since Trump's high crimes and misdemeanors are already part of the public record let's now lay down the articles of impeachment that the people of America need to bring against the Republican Party and its members

1. Republicans, based on Trump's complete control over them, refuse to do the will of the American people and what is right for this country. In so many cases where the vast majority of the people want certain things done, such as improving the healthcare system, taking action to bring the mass shooting epidemic under control, or addressing the climate change issue, the Republicans simply refuse to do anything to even address them.

2. Republicans watch as this rogue president continues to rip and tear at the foundations of America and do nothing to try to stop him. They are failing to carry out their responsibilities under the Constitution to challenge what he does. They just keep following his dictates like meek little lambs.

3. They also refuse to adhere to the principles of ethics and morality in doing their jobs. Trump and Republicans, instead of working to provide healthcare for all Americans, tried very hard to eliminate Obamacare and take medical coverage away from some 30 million Americans, with no plan to replace it with a better system. That is reprehensible.

4. Senate Majority Leader McConnell has deliberately prevented key Democratic-initiated legislation to deal with mass shootings to come up for a Senate vote. Here we have a dictator in the Senate who rules with an iron fist and refuses to allow critically important votes on critically important legislation unless the president gives him the ok. This cannot continue to be tolerated in our democracy.

5. McConnell has also refused to bring legislation to a vote which would make important changes to election systems in various states to prevent further Russian interference. He, by this refusal to deal with a direct threat by Putin to poison our election system, is aiding and abetting the Russians. That is why he is now being called "Moscow Mitch."

That term, "so help me God" is generally defined as saying that "I so pledge and vow in God's name." That's what they vow as they enter Congress. And then what happens next in the case of most of them? They refuse to faithfullydischarge the duties of the office.

Based on their record, what they say and what most of them refuse to do, the vow they made has become meaningless, and that is why the people of this country must impeach them, as well as their president.

Whoops!! "They refuse to faithfully discharge the duties of the office" includes a "too timid" to "impeach the president" Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi - so far, she has refused to impeach two Republican presidents, which made/makes all the Democrats, and the Democrat Party "look weak" and "unreliable" to "faithfully discharge the duties", so the Republican "hell raisers" W Bush/Trump did/can "take full advantage" of the "weakling Democrat leadership", "and that is our downfall".

Well, you may be entirely correct but unless there is a massive, explosive event that sinks Democrats Trump, the "poisoner and contaminater" in chief, will be taken down in what should be the largest landslide in history. Democrats are far from perfect but at least they won't destroy America.

By not impeaching W Bush/Trump, when she easily could have, Pelosi had/has the Democrat majority and she had/has the votes, if she asked for them, means Republican presidents are "above the law" for the Democrats and beyond the "reach of justice" after they leave office - effectively, this one person, has "destroyed" America's "rule to law", which should include everybody but did not/does not include Republican presidents "on her watch" as the Democrat House Leader (e.g., #IraqWar "Fraudulent Justification" Article II- "so what", W Bush was never impeached by Pelosi and the Democrats, he's "in the clear forever more). The #AUMF2001 never authorized W Bush to lie about Iraq but he did anyway, profusely so, with congress applauding nearly every word and approving every Emergency Iraq War Supplemental Bill for W Bush as a top priority - #VERDICT "they acted with deceit and with falsehood".

Well, Pelosi is certainly not a favorite of mine and never has been. Right now the way she is acting she could very well cause the Democrats to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.

As your nemesis Ronald Reagan might respond, "There you go again".

Your arguments against the Republicans versus the Democrats have gone from automatic, in that you knee jerk blame the Republicans for everything to dogmatic, in that you refuse to recognize that they are hired by the same class...the elites. Surely you do not believe the elites would leave it to chance that one of the parties would ever perform a bi partisan effort against the elites class interest? The fact that you do not acknowledge this leads me to suspect and repeat, that you just like stirring up the pot. Your smiling photo above suggests that you are very mischievous!

Given that the "two" parties do the bidding of the elites irrespective of their constitutional requirements, and given that all three branches of government have been corrupted [bought] along with civil institutions [labor, think tanks], the only sensible action it seems to me is for the people to overthrow their government and bring to justice all of those who have brought us to where we are now, including in absentia, the dead.

My goodness Shad, you almost sound like those out there who contend that Democrats are the same thing as Republicans, no different. But I know you aren't.
Well, then please think about the following issues that have been very important in America in the past and right now and tell me which one is doing by far, by miles and miles better than the other. The following list comes from one of a myriad of articles that show the plethora of Democratic achievements:

Social Security " Medicare, Medicaid, Healthcare Reform, Food Safety " New Deal, Great Society, Peace Corp, Vista, Job Corp " Civil Rights, Women's Right to Vote, Equal Rights, The Voting Rights Act, Equal Pay Act, Motor Voter " Consumer Protection, FDIC, Banking and Wall Street Regulations, SEC, Federal Reserve System, Anti-trust Legislation " Funding for Science, Medical and Engineering Research, Space Exploration, NSF, NIH " Support for Public Education, Head Start, School Lunch and Breakfast Programs, the Food Stamp program " NLRB, 8 hr. Work Day/40 hr. Work Week, Overtime pay, Unemployment " Protection for the Environment, Increased Numbers and Support of National Parks and Wilderness Areas, Endangered Species Act, FEMA " Veterans' Benefits, GI Bill " UN, NATO, Marshall Plan " Vehicles Safety Requirements, Reduced Emissions, and Fuel Economy Standards (CAFE) " TVA, Federal Loan Program, PBS, NPR, the Internet " Economic Growth (Democratic Presidents: Roosevelt through Obama)

There is no question but that Democrats have done some things that not have been in the best interests of the country or its people and they must clean up their act in certain areas. But the above achievements are why I still strongly support this party. And when I think about comparing Democrats to the Republicans, who don't follow the principles of ethics and morality, and do things to bring great harm to people, I think comparing the two is like comparing Theodore Roosevelt to Joseph Stalin.

Today's Democratic Party bears no resemblance to the party before the Clinton's introduced their corporatist "Third Way" policies. They basically stole the Reagan agenda forcing the Republicans further to the right. We've had a rightward trend in our politics ever since.

Bill Clinton deregulated the media and outsourced good paying jobs through NAFTA. Obama then doubled down on being a friend of the 1% while throwing working people under the bus. He also destroyed civil liberties through the NDAA and expanded regime change wars. I dare say, the Democrats have become as or more hawkish in their foreign policy and more punitive with regards to civil liberties than some right wingers. It's been a surreal experience.

Anyone still in the Dem Party fold is in an abusive relationship.

Lois: it is this simple: in 2020 we will have a choice, to reelect what many people have referred to as a terrible human being and a political party that is totally decrepit, deceitful, and a curse on our country; or a political party that has many imperfections, does not always do what is right for this country but is far, far better than the barbarians that now control the White House and the Senate.

In 2020 you and I will have a choice: it's not which party is the lesser of two evils even that could not be more clear, but which party will do the least damage to this country.

If you can't see the difference, and we only have two choices, then what you need to do is stay home and not vote. And when millions of Americans who are disillusioned stay home, that's when someone like Trump, a terrible human being gets elected. Think deeply about the future of America and our children and grandchildren and then decide what is best to do.

I will vote Green as that party is the only one with a plan to seriously mitigate climate change. It is not on me if the majority in this country is too propagandized to comprehend that if we don't stop allowing ourselves to be fear mongered into expecting change from within the imperialist corporate owned system, there will be no future for the human race. It is on those who can't be bothered to look outside the decrepit Dems for leadership.

That is what is best to do.

Well, just keep escaping reality and dreaming while the Republican Party, if Trump and his bootlickers are reelected, installs an authoritarian/autocratic government that will rule America and you. Then when you are under that iron-fisted rule you can dream of your Green Party. Some things I can't believe.

In the end, it don't matter who gets elected President.

"There is a de facto 'secret government' operating nationally and internationally and involved in the highest circles of the US government, exercising an impact over domestic policies and economics ranging between extreme influence to, at times, outright control. This extreme influence to outright control naturally includes the Presidency. The de facto 'secret government,' much of whose intellectual - and financial - muscle are to be found in the New York office of the CFR, the great tax-free foundations, and certain international firms and corporations." - Mike Culbert: article in the Independent-Gazette published in Richmond, California on June 27, 1974 in reference to his discussions with Charles Colson (a member of Nixon's cabinet) on the almost total control of US presidents by the outside forces. I am dealing with the reality of climate catastrophe. It's the majority who are still in fantasy land thinking we have time to wait for the Democrats to do what is needed to avert near term extinction. They won't. They are owned by those who created the problem. Wake up.

You list some great accomplishments of the democrat party but it is, as Lois Gagnon suggests, what has it done lately? And you include a couple revolutionary ideas, such as the Federal Reserve System - I am pretty sure that was not a great accomplishment on behalf of we the people...and NPR and PBS, really? They've been missing in action since they began taking money followed by instructions from the elites' management teams.

I thought the lesser of two evils argument had finally died. But you resuscitated it. Someone said the lesser of two evils is still evil. The truth in that is reason enough to throw the system overboard. You know that it is the system, Michael.

If one would like a placeholder for a component of the System, look no further than the list of Congressional legislators who voted for the recent Pentagon budget.

The country may as well have been tasered by that outcome.

Well, Shad, the best advice I can give to you, Lois, and those who see it this way is for you to vote to reelect Trump and his Republican puppets and see what happens next. it will be hell on earth and a nightmare and we will be living in an authoritarian/autocratic government, but at least we can see that those "underperforming" Democrats do not take control.

By the way, have the Republicans done ANYTHING of any kind to solve this country's plethora of problems or are they just obstructing Democrat's attempts to "do something lately", like proposing gun control legislation, infrastructure, improvements to our election system to prevent foreign hacking, as well as others?

Or are Republicans doing "something" by trying to destroy Obamacare, cutting funds for food stamps, slashing Medicare, Medicaid, trying to privatize Social Security, and on and on?

There is also the issue of Climate Catastrophe. Can we really afford 4 more years of Trump? I think not. Sitting home and not voting, may, if Trump wins, condemn millions of people to extinction.

Here's the comment I made to Shad Williams about Trump and why 4 more years of him in control will be catastrophic for America.

I'm reading a very, very interesting and scary book entitled "The Dangerous cased of Donald Trump" by Yale psychiatrist Bandy Lee in which see and 26 other leading psychiatrists finally come out of their silence and really tell it like it is about Trump; how all the signs point to the fact that he is mentally unstable. They don't just give opinions they are explicit in explaining why they think he is very disturbed and, therefore, totally unfit for the presidency.

Shad: You know that you are still at the top of my favorite guys' list and I love your comments. But I have to be totally honest about my feelings when I see our country and democracy under attack. As I've said many times let's not talk about the lesser of two evils and, instead, ask ourselves which party and president will do the least damage to America. That's how bad it is right now. And we only have two choices to try to save our country.

I'm reading a very, very interesting and scary book entitled "The Dangerous cased of Donald Trump" by Yale psychiatrist Bandy Lee in which she and 26 other leading psychiatrists finally come out of their silence and really tell it like it is about Trump; how all the signs point to the fact that he is mentally unstable. They don't just give opinions they are explicit in explaining why they think he is very disturbed and, therefore, totally unfit for the presidency.

And, remember, you are still one of my favorite guys.

I've never heard of it before but there is nothing about this government and what it is doing that surprises me anymore. But I want to see more concrete proof and this article talks about that coming from anonymous sources. Also, the article first appeared on Sputnik which is a Russian affiliated website.

So we need to see more specific proof. But I sure wouldn't doubt that it actually happened.

Here's the site, easily found by any fifth grader in ten seconds after actually reading the article click here

Maybe take a look and give your opinion on that?

Daniel: please don't insinuate that I might be kind of like a 5th grader in finding that website or Sputnik, because you just might upset me and that's not good.

Now I fully understand how to find the Arms Watch and Sputnik websites and don't need any instructions. Secondly, any 5th grader knows better than to simply believe what some Bulgarian writer says about some anonymous source "leaking" damning information about what the US government did in this situation.

When I see more concrete evidence instead of leaks from anonymous sources then I will draw my own conclusions. I'm pretty sure that is what the best journalists do. So let me know when you obtain it.

Wow. The only person who knows better than Nancy Pelosi that the president is not above the law is the president himself?

Can you imagine that if your life depended on finishing the statement that, "the only person who knows better than Nancy Pelosi that the [President of the United States] is not about the law is...wait for it, wait for it...Donald Trump himself..."Wah? WTF???

She is obviously a very comfortable full of sh*t member of the political class, following orders from her crib in the hood..who is as a friend of mine would describe as, "tragically Hip", you dig?

"Americans"...to be clear....here meaning just those in the USA...not Americans in the rest of the Americas, from the Arctic down to Tierra del Fuego.

And to not implicate non-US Americans in USA misdeeds etc.

It's very likely that Trump and Pence will be dead in the water 18 months from now. If we impeach Trump now, we are breathing life into Pence's career. That's all we would be accomplishing, aside from turning an embarrassing clown into a martyr.

The impeachment of Clinton was the Red Revenge for impeachment of Nixon. How many times would you like to continue this cycle?

This isn't about "high crimes and misdemeanors". It's about politics. All our presidents are guilty of high crimes. We've learned that you can't navigate our present political system without willingness to violate the law.

Some are worse than others, of course. War crimes are worse than "suborning perjury". Clinton was guilty of the former (perhaps less so than Bush and Obama), but he was impeached for the latter.

"Impeach" doesn't mean remove from office or imposing of criminal charges....as too many seem to believe. If any official is impeached they can remain in office, just as impeached Clinton did. That helped nothing.

And, it's not "American people" who can impeach or remove a U.S. gov't official from office....it's just...ONLY...the Americans and their sworn/paid Public Servants in the United States OF America...not those in the rest of The Americas.

Other Americans outside of the USA can contribute with accusations and evidentiary justifications for US Citizens to do this or that...but...those Americans are not US Citizens with rights to do what US Citizens can.

"US Citizens" is correct term here.

"Americans", without qualification, is incorrectly broad in this matter. Might as well say "Earthlings"....but that's not as "patriotic" perhaps.

That this incorrect, off-target linguistic stuff is so common and tolerated is worrisome.

John, John! Well, thank you for the clarification and critique. You must be an expert on these matters, right?

I know full well what impeach means, i.e., to initiate impeachment proceedings in the House and then, when they are approved, to send them to the Senate at which time a vote is taken for senators to either vote yes or no. And, if the impeachment recommendations are approved then the president can resign or be removed from office.

But when I write articles I like to occasionally put in little twists to make things more interesting. So then let me inform you that I am also fully aware that the American people cannot impeach a president. So, and I guess you didn't notice but I said the people would initiate their own form of impeachment by which they would vote to remove Trump as well as his entire team of useless, pathetic, puppets.

And you want to know what is really worrisome to me? It's when someone makes a statement such as " That this incorrect, off-target linguistic stuff is so common and tolerated is worrisome." Sorry to say this but that is kind of over the top and you would do well to think much deeper before offering up a critique.
