"Sunday Shattuck Shutdown"

Fate is a wonderful thing.  Fate, for me, is what happens when a person (all of us, I believe) is summoned to do something larger than anything they could perceive or grasp as something they would want to happen to them.  Something they could not handle if asked to do so, so other energies need to take over.  And, with out these energies assisting, these people would not be able to achieve what they were set out (from the beginning as I believe it is preordained) to accomplish, because it seems, the bigger the calling... the more screwed up the individual is (or was, rather) with whom this Creator picks as that person who would be the conduit.

Yesterday, I was supposed to be in the city (San Francisco).  I was supposed to be escorting a (beautiful) friend of mine; a friend of mine who is leaving for her homeland of Brasil very soon, because her Visa is about to run out.  I wanted to spend a day with her, before she departs this upcoming week, because I never seem to have enough time to hang out (with her), because of what I am involved in. (fighting with city hall and the DBA and writing my book[s])  How ever, my friend Isabel cancelled on me at the last minute, so I was not going to be going to the city after all, unless I wanted to do it alone, which I did not want to do, this time around.

So instead, I decided to hang out in downtown Berkeley, for their big party.  The Downtown [Berkeley] Business Association (DBA) put on their "Sunday Streets Berkeley" festival yesterday.  I've known of this for some time now.  I actually wanted to be nowhere near this place on that day.  Why?  Because, I thought the DBA was going to throw corporate crap at everyone, and did not wish to be part of that sort of thing.  Well, as I often preach to people when they screw up, "Assumptions are the mother of all f*** ups!

And this time I was the "f*** up."

I had gotten up really early yesterday... somewhere around 4:30 AM.  And the reason why I was up so early was I had to go around and spread the news that "Yes on S!" is wrong-headed thinking.  So I posted "No on S!" posters all over the downtown area, right next to the Yes on S! signs.  I figured my signs had a shelf life of about 8:00 AM, as their (DBA) party would begin at 11:00 AM, and there's no way the DBA (and Block By Block) would allow for such a thing, right?

Again, another assumption... I was wrong, again?!

Get out!  This never happens!  Okay, it does... just not about this topic, and not that much.

Okay... that's strike two on my theory of how the DBA, the city, and Block By Block was going to screw this up.

And, to the credit of the DBA and the city in general, they left up our No on S! signs.  They did not rip them from their perches.  They were allowed to post for the entire day, and even some of them are still up today.  This is a good sign.  And it is a positive sign because, at least, the DBA and the city are not going to try and stifle dissent.  An act like that would put us all in the same category as a citizen in a third-world nation, who could (and most likely would) be killed for dissent, and usually have their opposition squashed by (smear-campaign) propaganda or outright shutting down their ability to verbalize or even write something, like an opposing viewpoint on an 8x10 piece of colored paper, for instance.

So, aside from a (Republican?) Wing Nut tearing down a couple, they were being fair in that regard.

Before I sat down, at my spot, (in front of John's Ice Cream) I decided to make my very own sign.  My sign would read,

"Vote No on S!

-Violates Civil Rights

-Selective Enforcement

-Scapegoats the Homeless
