Steve King introduces resolution "encouraging" Americans to discriminate against LGBT Americans

I wonder if Rep. Steve "Melon Calves" King is going to commandeer Republican anti-LGBT policy like he commandeered the party's anti-immigration policy.
"It would have no force of law, but U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, on Friday announced he has introduced a House resolution for representatives to formally disapprove of the June ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that legalized gay marriage nationally. [...]

"King said the 'resolution expresses the sense' by the House that the court ruling 'unconstitutionally and indefensibly perverts the definition of marriage,' that states are not required to license gay marriage and that 'individuals, businesses, churches, religious groups and other faith-based organizations are encouraged, empowered, and protected to exercise their faith without fear of legal or government interference.'"

So a bit of do-nothing make-work that will exist solely to affirm cherished prejudices -- against LGBT Americans, this time around -- while taking up valuable time the House could be using to debate, one can only assume, another dozen or so bills repealing Obamacare. How very ... expected.
And bonus points for the language explicitly meant to "encourage" and "empower" anti-LGBT discrimination by the public whether it's legal to do so or not, because Steve King just feels in his heart that they should be discriminated against. What a lovely person, Iowa. I don't believe we've mentioned lately how special it is that you keep deciding to share this big ball of hate with the rest of us.

There has got to be something good that the Republican Party can stand for. Out of blind luck, the party at some point has to stumble upon a Deeply Held Belief that is not rooted to bigotry, or corporate hand holding, or reasons why fewer people ought to be voting these days. Instead we've got Steve King running policy, and countless calls for constitutional changes to patch things when the Supreme Court doesn't rule their way, and Donald Trump running on an explicitly xenophobic "platform" that kicks him up a few points in the polls whenever he yells it.
