President elect Donald Trump

If there are positive things to be said of Donald Trump ascending to the presidency it's his saying he could work with Russian President Vladimir Putin and doesn't support regime change in Syria the likelihood of a nuclear confrontation with Russia is diminished if not completely off the table.

In the campaign Trump voiced the idea of working with Putin while Hillary Clinton denounced him as the "new Hitler" referred to Trump as a Putin apologist and blamed the Russian leader of being behind the hacking of her campaign-no evidence given.

It's not a stretch to conclude Clinton was itching to take on Russia in Syria advocating a no fly-zone which would have made a confrontation with Russia all but certain.

As I have written [1] , "To be sure Trump has made some outrageous statements about women, deporting illegal immigrants, building a wall, preventing Muslims from entering the US and much of the rest that had liberals and many progressives apoplectic and hyper ventilating over the coming of the 'Donald".

However since being elected he's taken a more measured tone concentrating on filling his cabinet and other appointments to his administration. So "Re-sets changes in domestic and foreign policy are coming".

The key element is stepping back from a possible nuclear confrontation with Russia. A policy change where people the world over can breathe a sigh of relief that such a catastrophe is unlikely to happen in the immediate future.

Sure Trump's denial of climate change is an absurd refutation of the obvious. The evidence is overwhelming. His appointing a new judge to SCOTUS to replace Antonin Scalia will keep the Court in the hands of right wing ideologues for the foreseeable future.

Yet the US halting provocations against Russia and China and a new era of detente with the two nuclear powers is essential. Cooperation rather confrontation must be a priority and judging Trump's talking on the phone with the Russian and Chinese leaders after he was elected is a good sign in that direction.

Think about it, a Clinton presidency-which even Noam Chomsky advocated-would have been a prescription for continuing endless war and eventual confrontation with Russia and China including a neo-con inspired nuclear war.

This alone is reason enough that the "Donald" coming to power has the world stepping back from the brink of nuclear annihilation.

But without doubt let's keep Trump's feet to the fire. He's talking jobs proposing 10 year trillion dollar infrastructure plan for the nation. Okay how is it going to be done; provide the details? Climate change is real and resistance to Trumps denial must continue.

When he advocates disastrous measures such as building a wall with Mexico, deporting millions of immigrants, not permitting Muslims from entering the country, such inanity must be confronted with protests on campuses and cities across the country.

Trump should not get a pass. Skepticism of him and his administration should be as natural as breathing. That will surely happen in the alternative media. Whether the corporate MSM can follow suit is questionable at best. Being truthful, non partial and demand evidence-not just accept the administration's claims without providing unmistakable evidence-and refraining from being a complicit enabler of the presidency is another matter. Considering the MSM's fear of challenging whomever sits in the oval office thus making it the "unofficial" organ of the state, recent history indicates such a change is not promising.

Most people in the US don't trust the corporate MSM and newspapers are hardly read. Going to alternative sources of what's happening is growing, though mindless distractions on the web also proliferate so whether people are becoming better informed as to what is happening in the world is hard to say.
