Sonnet: Jeff Koons Blue Moon Group

by John Kendall Hawkins

.

Jeff Koons goes moons and sees himself in the blue glass

globe that is Earth without impurities;

what home might be, devoid of insecurities

and nitwits with needs he sees as pains in the ass.

In a time of earthly turmoil Jeff's life matters,

which is more than one might say for the rest of us,

the obscure plebs who mispronounce Van Gogh and fuss

about their heirloom democracy in tatters.

There'll surely come a time when the moon's Mt. Rushmore,

and we look up to see Jeff Koon's product placement,

beaconing to us from its CubeSat encasement,

like the Kubrick monkey-stone washed up on our shore.

What if other artists follow Koons into outer space?

Will wheelers, dealers, and auctioneer-ers give chase?

"As Part of His NFT Debut, Jeff Koons Will Launch Sculptures Into Space and Place Them Permanently on the Moon?"

The artist describes the project as a "celebration of humanity's aspirational accomplishments."
