'The Five' panel gets heated over Trump's Soleimani airstrike Special guest hosts of 'The Five' challenge each other's views on President Trump ordering the Baghdad airport air strike that killed Iran's top military ...

  Details   DMCA

The MSM news networks are still going full time on the Soleimani assassination.

What are your thoughts?

Here are some of mine.

  • Every past president had an opportunity to kill him. They chose not to-- for good reasons.
  • We all knew Trump was going to start a war to help him win the 2020 election. This is one possible effort to make that happen.
  • The mainstream media is doing a terrible job raising questions about this stupid action.
  • Trump is surrounded by a confederacy of lackey idiots who, between them, don't have a spine to stand up to him and tell him it was a bad idea.
  • The MSM is fully enabling the Trump administration's message that Soleimani was a terrorist, like Bin Laden. The difference is, Soleimani was a general in the Iranian army. Any nation could label an opposing General as a terrorist using this logic. Bin Laden was an actual terrorist without ties to a specific nation.
  • Many are saying that Soleimani was a major enemy and conqueror of Isis. Some say that the US created ISIS.
  • Israel may have been the only US ally to be aware of the attack beforehand. In fact, this attack serves Israel more than any other nation, including the USA. This attack smells of Mossad and I wouldn't be surprised if Mossad didn't provide all the logistics and even the laser guidance for the kill shots
  • Trump said he was opposed to escalation in the Middle east. Big surprise. Another lie.
  • Failure to notify congress and get authorization for what was clearly an act of war is an impeachable offense.
  • Bernie Sanders is the only candidate who has not qualified his remarks by first saying that Soleiman was a terrorist bad guy. There are many terrorist bad guys out there who the US or Israel could take out that it would be stupid and unwise to do
  • What are your thoughts? What articles are you seeing that cast light on this.

Since Trump took over in 2016, I have been among the give the man a chance minority here. I was honestly taken aback by the vehemence of criticism against my comments then. Just as I have been bushwhacked by persistent shoot the messenger sniper fire in the years since. I have had my intellect, integrity, motivation and sanity questioned in ad hominem attacks by people I once considered sober and thoughtful. I have been accused of envy and hatred of America. I have been told this is an American story in which an outsider has no role. I have been chastised for taking vicarious pleasure in the terrible torment Americans are going through.

In spite of this, I have stood my ground for one reason above all. For all his idiosyncracies, character flaws, liberties with facts and penchant for the hyperbole, Trump has been the only president in the last three decades who has refused to get baptized in the bloodbath of a war against yet another faraway land in the name of American security. He has kept the wars and conflicts he inherited simmering, unwilling or unable to get closure on any. But he has managed to skate around the thin-iced precipice of a new war with not a little pluck and a great deal of luck.

The killing of Soleimani is my personal red line. It doesn't make me take back my past arguments and pleas to give the man a fair chance to govern. A chance he never got till this day. But it takes away the one overriding factor that has been worth all the criticism leveled against me -- because that factor has meant the sparing of god knows how many hundreds of thousands/millions of lives that have not been lived out yet.

No individual or political fervor deserves unflinching support in the face of such an outrage. WWI was started by the assassination of one man, Archduke Franz Ferdinand. One of the deadliest conflicts in history, it involved over 100 countries across all continents. 20-22 million lives were lost and an equal number were wounded and maimed. The war cut a swathe of destruction across the face of the world. And it was all fought with weapons that were a parody of today's arsenal of mass destruction. In the hands of leaders lacking in character, integrity, moral fiber and conscience.

I am dismayed to see on another thread here some commenters rationalize this brazen act of war in their resolve to remain supporters of Trump. They mock those fearful of the conflagration it may set off. They imply such people are hysterical cowards hiding under their desks from scarecrows. For who can touch America?

Perhaps their courage comes from their distance from the arena of a global war. Perhaps they feel no retribution is possible because of America's frightening power to kill others in large numbers and its callous will to exercise such power on a whim. They even seem to have found allies in the same media shills whom they have rightly detested for mounting a coup against a lawfully elected president.

Americans may be safe on their soil. The poor benighted millions in the Middle East are not. They have paid a thousandfold price in blood and tears for nearly two decades in endless revenge for 9/11.

    Stop. Please...

I care not about your abuse or adulation of Trump. Your rights and privileges have no impact on my daily life. Who gets the right of pretense to rule your nation is a matter of supreme indifference to its victims in faraway lands that have been accursed with wealth your rulers covet. Wealth from which you benefit, one way or another.

Take the wealth. Spare those lives. Do not disgrace your conscience, your humanity, by supporting Trump on this.

Yes, "endless revenge for 9/11", W Bush, Obama, Trump, left the Middle East 'shattered', 'bloodstained', in 'endless turmoil' and 'grief', 'embroiled' in 'endless wars', with the United States in 'endless debt' in the 21st Century, except there were no 'nineteen hijackers' from anywhere in the world who could have come to New York City at exactly 5:20 PM to 'pull down' Building 7 in 6.5 seconds ("explosives used") - 'had to be' someone who had 'access to all three Towers' and 'knew how to do it' so "perfectly".

Ramani, what a feeling retort. I fully admire and accord what you say. It seems even possible that Trump's today's occupancy of the White House Presidency has been finally overcome. His admission of U.S. blame could have been dictated, though it appears otherwise. I still hold back believing Trump initiated this catastrophe. It seems too eerily similar to what our CIA (Wet Squad) has accomplished already myriad times. Also, Israel's Mossad's Assassination Arm has become the world's expert organization whose expertise is beyond compare. As you may say, this is the Red Line that his handlers (The Deep State) wanted us to reach. I shudder and blanch.

Nels, your intuition is uncanny, "Israel's Mossad Assassination Arm" and how it operates inside the US and our government is being discussed as we speak. Check out this link. I have looked into this a while back and I am not surprised by the revelations.

The Trump administration is telling fairy tales about its murder of Major General Qassem Soleimani. He was not planing any "imminent attacks" on the U.S. or its interests in Iraq. Reports which claim that while calling Katyusha rockets "sophisticated weapons" can obviously be ignored. In no way was Soleimani a legitimate target for a U.S. attack. No Orwellian State Department briefing can change that.

Fact is that Trump is following the plan of the Foundation of the Defense of Democracy (FDD) which was originally founded as EMET (Hebrew for "truth"), "to provide education to enhance Israel's image in North America." Undercover video from Al Jazeerah caught the Israeli ex-intel official Sima Vakhnin-Gil in 2017 saying "We have FDD" when she was asked how Israel lobbies for its interests.

Indeed, my Friend George, the United States and its president will soon regret listening to Israel, Mossad and the neocons. This was a faux pas beyond anything Trump has fallen into previously. He desperately has needed someone to pay attention to who has had more wisdom than any of his current advisors. A good link, MofA.

I am of the same mind on on this Nels. Trump is an empty vessel with only one agenda; self promotion. That's all he's done his whole life. He doesn't have a political ideology. That makes him the perfect target for the neocons, Netanyahoo and the Saudi Crown Prince to flatter him into doing whatever they ask.

I blame all of this on the Washington/Wall St. power structure. Everything they touch turns to dust. They are a plague on humanity.

The engineer got laid off last February. He was planning on working until last month but has been retired for nearly a year. Alas, he's been bored and has found a part time contracting gig which should start soon. Yay! :P

How about sending Iran Trump and their choice of six other war criminals for trial and sentence-serving? It would get rid of the messy impeachment, and help fulfil Trump's promise of ending the wars.

This is a most depraved and stupid act, which Trump gloats in his tweets ("Iran never won a war, but never lost a negotiation!") as if he expects this to bring Iran to the negotiation table. Iran lost big on the gamble they took with the JCPOA, and they will never negotiate with Trump, nor with any other US president anytime soon.

The 'American' people are ignorant that Iran is in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon legally and by invitation. All countries are legally allowed to have allies.

It is the US that is the illegal invading aggressor. Killing General Soleimani was clearly a political assassination and an act of terrorism. While Iran's acts of actual terrorism are few and far between, there will be retaliation at Iran's time and choosing.

I have researched Iran's alleged acts of terrorism and they are all mostly groundless. The only one that is somewhat credible (imo) is a 2012 bombing of an Israeli tourist bus in Bulgaria, which may have been in retaliation for Israel assassinating Iranian nuclear scientists...anyway, the assassinations stopped.

It is absolutely ludicrous to blame Iran for any attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria, since the US invasion was a war crime. Following orders is not an excuse, which makes all US troops in Iraq and Syria war criminals.

Even if the US is now there with the "permission" of Iraq government, it was forced on them by duress.

The number one terrorist states are the US, Saudi Arabia and Israel. In the past few years they have backed Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK) and other terrorist groups operating inside Iran. Several thousand Iranians have been killed in these terrorist attacks.

The only "crime" Iran has committed is to not let US corporations rape their country. The propaganda campaign against them has been intense since 1979, when they overthrew the brutal dictator the US imposed on them.

Several reason why IMPOTUS killed Soleimani:

    1. Distraction from Impeachment

    2. Needs to keep US Fracked fuels above $60 a barrel to remain viable.

"Stop relying on "DailyKOS" for anything. It's not a real news site." I agree.

However, your link to the report claiming this was a "completely discredited fake news story" is disappointing and provides no direct proof of the allegation either, as far as I can tell.

Trump's shocking coziness with Putin would be understandable if the Deutsche Bank story were at least partially fact. If it is fake, as you state, then we still have no credible reason for Trump's attitude toward Putin.

I agree with Lila York that Soleimani defeated ISIS which was created to cause mayhem in the region even Turkey started stealing Iraqi and Syrian oil and gas because of ISIS. Saudi criminals funded members of ISIS and the arms which they used demonstrated which countries were behind them.

After defeat of ISIS, Western countries took credit for that.

In international relations, there should be laws to follow to keep us from being savages. MANY countries have genuine grievances against Western countries for stealing their natural resources and destroying their infrastructures. Western legal systems have been biased towards West Asian countries for over 100 years starting with British thieves who arrived to divide the region and created puppet governments in UAE and Bahrain, for example.

Very few people have discussed illegal sanctions if a country stands up to Western companies and countries. Bolivia is the latest catastrophe.

Rules of force and jungle have been used to govern international relations. Western media has been biased for distorting facts and in case of France not reporting their facts.

Illegal sanctions which violate international agreements have brought sufferings to millions of people. Even refugees who escaped to other countries are affected by these unfair illegal practices.

Any killing must be condemned. Since World War II, over 50,000,000 million have been killed and over 4000,000,000 dislocated, injured and lost a limb because of Russia and Western countries aggressions. Controlled Western media keeps repeating 6,000,000 Jews at the hand of Germany which we had nothing to do with it. Iran housed and welcomed many refugees from Germany, Poland, and Afghanistan. Iran has the largest number of refugees receiving no UN support because of veto power of Western countries. Illegal sanctions has hurt refugees too.

Indeed rules of jungle are being used to steal, lie, and cheat while millions of people are losing their lands, homes and natural resources.

If media shows the world that assassination is fine and good, other countries might justify it for killing other leaders.

Killing people is wrong. Assassinating scientist is wrong. Stealing native people's lands is wrong. Not following UN resolutions is wrong. Stealing oil and gas is wrong.

Don Trump may be an idiot (manipulated/owned?) however he is not in charge of the Armed Forces despite the "Commander in Chief" moniker (1). What can we expect to comprehend much less rectify if we throw unverified accusations when we ignore the past? Confused and abused by manufactured consent for decades (centuries?) requires a step back from this rhetoric of war is peace, be afraid very afraid and to which marionette is responsible guessing game (2). The past is there for all to see unless one desires to react to manipulated passion/s of propaganda or fear ie manufactured consent. I recommend a refresher course and Ala's Click here link is one of many unless we choose Samuel Clemens easy way out using the art of "grotesque self-deception" for a better sleep at night until the collapse of your house upon your head.

    1. "That there are men in all countries who get their living by war, and by keeping up the quarrels of nations, is as shocking as it is true; but when those who are concerned in the government of a country, make it their study to sow discord, and cultivate prejudices between nations, it becomes the more unpardonable. War is the gambling table of governments, and citizens the dupes of the game." -- -- Thomas Paine, "The Rights of Man", circa 1792

"Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of a day. But a series of oppressions, begun at a distinguished period, and pursued unalterably through every change of ministers (administrations), too plainly proves a deliberate systematic plan of reducing us to slavery. Thomas Jefferson

    2. "It is error (lies) only, and not truth, that shrinks from inquiry." Thomas Paine

"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State." Dr. Joseph M. Goebbels

"Any who act as if freedom's defenses are to be found in suppression and suspicion and fear confess a doctrine that is alien to America." President Eisenhower

The 'stain of impeachment' is 'indelible', a 'vote of unfitness' to serve the American people in any capacity whatsoever, by a majority vote of congress, and the 'impeached president' Trump most surely should have been 'resigning forthwith' from office instead of 'drawing out his saber' from it's 'shaft' and 'slicing' at Iran.

Democrats had their chance to stop unilateral war with Iran and they rejected it when 188 of them voted for NDAA - which had that stripped out of it. The American people have no voice in war.

The United States has gone to war at the drop of a hat.

For some reason they have military bases all over the

world. They killed millions of people in Iraq under false

pretenses. Can you imagine if a foreign country had a

military base in our country? The US is the most hypocritical nation on earth.

R.I.P. Iranian war hero General Qassem Soleimani murdered in Iraq by USA terrorists. Also murdered in the terrorist attack were Iraqi Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, leader of Iranian-backed militias in Iraq and ten others.

Soleimani and Muhandis were instrumental in the defeat of ISIS, Al Qaeda and other US/NATO/Saudi sponsored terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

Iranian General Qassem Soleimani was a genuine patriot and war hero who has proved himself on the battle field for decades. Whereas Donald Trump is a coward and serial draft dodger with questionable loyalty to the USA. https://www.fosters.com/.../donald-trump-is-draft-dodging

The US supports the real terrorists!

It was the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK) that was involved in taking US hostages in US embassy in 1979, and kidnaping and killing 'Americans'. The same MEK group that the US declared were terrorists, and now the US is supporting them.

It goes to show many things: The US can never be believed, and it does not give a damn about US citizens. The US is the leading terrorist in the world, and it supports terrorist groups. Etc.

The Democratic Party gave Trump a free pass to wage war on Iran. Whatever the repercussions of Trump's murder of Soleimani and several other targeted individuals, the blood is on the Democrats' hands as much as on the Republicans. Just to recap, in December 2019, 188 Democrats in the US House voted with Republicans to pass the gargantuan, insane $738-billion military/war spending bill to fund the US/Pentagon/CIA perpetual war machine. Senators had already voted 86-8 to pass the blank-check-for-Trump.

Stripped from the bill was an amendment that would have barred Trump from using federal dollars for military action against Iran without congressional approval. The Democrats are in on the war-plans too.

Soleimani was heavily involved in supporting Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other militant groups in their efforts to destroy Israel. A summary of his activities in this regard can be found here (click here). On the other hand, Soleimani probably did more to help defeat ISIS and Al-Qaeda than all U.S. troops. Soleimani was regarded as a hero across the Middle East. Trump's murder of Soleimani, at the direction of his neocon and pro-Israel handlers, was a foolish and idiotic mistake.

Israel considered Major General Soleimani a mortal threat and tried to assassinate him, most recently in October 2019. Israel had previously tried to assassinate Soleimani in 2014-2015 but the US "warned the Iranian leadership of the plan," according to the Kuwaiti paper Al-Jarida. (How ironic!) So Israel farmed out the job to the US, and Trump willingly obliged, as both he and Netanyahu face possible removal from office and a war would serve as a distraction and quite possibly raise their popularity at home. On January 4 thousands of people in over 70 cities across the United States took to the streets to condemn the Trump administration's reckless acts of war against Iran and demand withdrawal of US troops from the Middle East. Protesters also marched in London and other cities.

What is needed now are 11 MILLION PEOPLE on America's streets to stop the US War Machine and Trump. (Please see "The '3.5% rule': How a small minority can change the world", click here ).

High school students, college students, workers, professionals, young and old, Democrats, Republicans, independents, blacks, whites, Latinos, Asian-Americans, gays, straights, activists of every stripe---all need to march on Congress or on their local sites of power to stop the madness. Otherwise, we might be in for another Bush-style "shock and awe" genocidal campaign while the US politicians make noises and the corporate-controlled media enables and cheers on the destruction.

11 MILLION PEOPLE. It can be done. There is internet, there are cell phones, there is SMS, there are apps, there are channels of coordination and communications. Let's hope a peaceful revolution is still possible.

As I have said on OpEd News many tines before the only reason the United States goes to war is to make the rich richer. This country has been at war constantly since 1776. First it was the English, then the native people, for 100 years we killed around 10,000,000 of them, in one way or another, to take their land. Then it was Hawaii and Cuba, and many more small country's around the world. There was WW1 and WW2, and many more. WE HAVE TO HAVE CONSTANT WAR TO MAKE THE FILTHY RICH RICHER!!!!!!!
