Lindsey Graham. President Lindsey Graham. Did anybody else just throw up in their mouth a little bit?

How much nuttier can the GOP presidential race get, Truthseekers? Lindsey Graham. When will Donald Hairflap and that "999" Pizza Godfather toss their top hats into the center ring? Makes me miss David Perdue.

Graham makes Ben Stein look like a gleeful optimist. He announced his candidacy today with dire warnings of a nuclear exchange with Iran and increasingly fatal attacks by ISIL as "radical Islamists run wild" throughout the world. As US News and World Report details:

"'Simply put, radical Islam is running wild,' he said. 'They have more safe havens, more money, more weapons and more capability to strike our homeland than any time since 9/11. They are large, they are rich, and they're entrenched.'

"He said as president, he'd 'make them small, poor and on the run.'

"'I'm afraid some Americans have grown tired of fighting them,' he said. 'I have bad news to share with you -- the radical Islamists are not tired of fighting you.'

"Despite his focus on Islamic State militants with footholds in those two nations, Graham said Iran poses the gravest threat.

"If the U.S. does not head off a nuclear capability in Iran, Graham said, 'Iran will trigger a nuclear arms race in the least stable region on Earth, and make it more likely that people who aspire to genocide will have the most effective means to commit it.'

"He said recently there is no avoiding the reality that more Americans will have to fight and die to defend the country."

Cheer up Lindsey. Just put Scott Walker on your ticket. Remember, Walker took down the unions, so he can take down ISIS! That's what he said, anyway. Kinda like Palin bragging about stopping Putin because she can see Russia from her moose huntin' tower. Or something.

Not the sanest clump of conservatives, these candidates.

Back to Graham. He grimly stated that more Americans would have to fight and die to defend the country. Of course, there hasn't been an attack since 2001, so it makes you wonder what we are defending...but it's a safe bet that Graham won't be donning a uniform anytime soon. Remember when he claimed he was a military veteran of Gulf War One? Gawker does:

"His 'track record on foreign affairs' includes fervent support for the Iraq War, just one of the many wars Graham would like America to wage and continue waging as long as possible. He's called for American military action in Libya, in Syria, and in Iran, and he has flirted with the idea of escalating hostilities against Russia, because while a cold war may not be as fun was a regular war, it is still a war.

"One might think that this man who loves war so much must have fought in one of them. Indeed, for years, Graham encouraged people to believe that he had. Funny story: He hadn't.

"Graham was in the Air National Guard during the Persian Gulf War. His service never took him out of South Carolina, but when he entered politics, he referred to himself as a 'veteran.' In 1998, the truth came out. From a 1998 Associated Press story (via Bob Somerby):

Kathy never expected a career in radio as a talk show producer. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Kathy was completing her nursing degree when in 2001 - in an emergency - she was asked to fill in as the producer of Mike's program. Within a few (more...)
