Today, when the US is in the midst of major recession it is real difficult to think or even care much about what is happening in the heart of Africa. The reality for all of us however is that the longer “We The People” of America fail to develop creative solutions for Africa the longer and harder will be our own recession. We all allowed the “Washington Experts” to pull the wool over our eyes when the genocide in Rwanda happened in the 1990’s and for most of the last 8 years we have allowed a different set of so called “Washington Experts” put us to sleep as they developed America’s pre-emptive war in Iraq policy in exchange for oil resources. “We cannot loose the war in Iraq!” we are told by Senator McCain, a decorated POW veteran. We can never forget the sacrifice Senator McCain made in the service of our country. We must however very strongly resist the urge to assume that a highly decorated POW veteran and “Washington Experts” are the only ones qualified to formulate the correct National Security policy to make America strong and safe. Am I the only one who remembers the newspaper accounts of the day discussed how oil MAY be found off the coast of Vietnam and how there will be a “domino effect” if Vietnam fell to the Communists.
We must also never allow Senator McCain, nor the American public to forget that the Senator will always be a member of the “Keating 5” club. In light of the fact that lobbyists still control the policy agenda of Senator McCain can we continue to trust this group for another 8 years to formulate the right economic policy for America or central Africa? What “We The People” must do is give Senator Obama the tools he needs to lead with us. The real spirit of American and the only realistic foundation for the National Security of America is contained in policy efforts like that contained in the “Spirit of Generosity” and the “Global Marshall Plan”. The 52 countries of Africa do not need more aid handouts. We need 52 partner countries where business flourishes because people flourished first. Africa is not as hopeless as the “Washington Experts” lead us to believe.
“We The People” have the tools locked inside our creativity to make our world more secure and productive for everyone. We must take Senator Obama up on his challenge and give him our ideas. During the Vietnamese War and now the Iraq War, we have witnessed what happens when we leave the solutions up to the so-called “Washington Experts”.
Now it’s our turn! And I for one will be silent no longer about policy ideas. We individually and collectively are the hope for America and the rest of the world. And yes we can do it…NOW!
Perhaps it was hearing one too many times how corrupt all business is and then seeing the death and dying in places like the DR Congo because of the failure of big business and big governments to put people ahead of profits.
I said enough of (more...)
