ACTION: Riverside County Board of Supervisors may nix the audit of Elections Department they called for 2 weeks ago and award no-bid $165,000 contract to ex-elected official.
After being given direction by the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors to immediately seek an RFP for a external auditor to audit the operations of the Registrar of Voters,
CEO Bill Luna has made a recommendations to:
1) NOT issue an RFP
2) Award a no-bid contract to do a “review”
3) Award the contract to Best Best and Krieger (BB&K), a law firm (NOT an accounting or audit firm)
4) Have ex-elected official, Grover Trask take lead on the project
5) Conclude the “review” (NOT an audit) by March 1, 2009

SAVE R VOTE vigorously opposes this action and will testify at 9 a.m. tomorrow in mass to urge the Board to remain true to their direction to finally have a full and legitimate outside audit conducted
On the Registrar of Voter’s office to determine the degree to which this office is violating federal, state and local laws, regulations and conditions of certification of the Sequoia system.
The voters deserve nothing less.
The media did a great job of covering this historic decision two weeks ago.
Now it may be all for naught, unless the presence of the media, along with citizens from across the county, brings the Board to the conclusion that the audit they demanded MUST be conducted!
