Presidential Candidate, Congresswoman and Active Duty Major Tulsi Gabbard Deployed Overseas: Service Before Self

While establishment candidates give fancy speeches to Wall Street for Big Bucks, Major Gabbard has once again put duty before self to accompany her unit overseas. It is not surprising that the only combat veteran and active duty soldier running for President is also the ultimate peace candidate. Like Tulsi, most veterans oppose war and support peaceful alternatives but those who have never been to war think that it is OK to send young Americans off to die for oil and corporate profits.

Gabbard has always put duty before self. This is a recurring theme of her campaign. She considers her duty to the American people to be more important than her own interests and even her own life. She did two tours in Iraq, a war zone. No other Presidential candidate has put their life on the line for the people of this country. Though she discovered Iraq was based on a lie and wants to end the wars, she does not regret her service to her country. Most other candidates are too busy supporting pay increases for themselves to stand up for their people and country.

The closest sacrifice by another candidate was that of Tulsi's close ally Bernie Sanders who once chained himself to an African-American woman in his struggle to protect the civil rights of all people. This is a struggle that Tulsi Gabbard, a woman of color, shares. So it is not surprising that Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard have essentially been a team since 2015, when Congresswoman and Major Tulsi Gabbard gave up her DNC career and position as Party Vice Chairman in order to back Bernie Sanders for President. It was Tulsi who nominated Bernie at the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

A big fear for opponents of Trump's food and medical embargo (that is expected to kill millions of Venezuelan children) is that Tulsi, the candidate who is standing the strongest against the sanctions on Venezuela, will be silenced by the corporate media. Supporters of freedom of the press are praying that Tulsi's call for dropping charges against Julian Assange, freeing Chelsea Manning and pardoning Edward Snowden will make it into the third debate.

The rigged polling has been detrimental to the campaigns of both Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard. Both are widely supported, not by the establishment, but by regular people, especially young people. These are the ones omitted from the polls. This is one of the reasons the polls do not reflect the will of the voters. Unfortunately, although both Bernie and Tulsi have more than met the debate individual donor requirement, misleading and rigged polling is being used to undercut the appearance of Bernie's popularity and to try to keep his right hand, Tulsi Gabbard, off the stage. And now at this critical time, Tulsi is having to leave the campaign trail to serve overseas.

The establishment is terrified of Tulsi Gabbard. They have misportrayed her position on Syria, on Medicare for All and on BDS. (Tulsi is a strong supporter of the right to boycott Israel but you wouldn't know it by reading misleading articles.) Her first two debates have taken down two establishment candidates: Tim Ryan and Kamala Harris. To punish Tulsi for telling the truth about Kamala Harris, the media has falsely accused a U.S. active duty Major of being an "Assad apologist" and of doing the bidding of Russia.

A prime beneficiary of Tulsi's debate skills is Bernie Sanders, whose competition is being eliminated one by one. Bernie's supporters are hoping that Tulsi's deployment and the rigged polls do not prevent Tulsi from being in the third debate. As Bernie has met the polling requirement, many of his supporters are asking everyone to poll for Gabbard before August 28 so that the two can stand together against the establishment in the third debate.

People are wondering why when candidates other than Bernie and Tulsi have trouble filling a room, Bernie and Tulsi are not polling way above all the other candidates. The answer involves a biased method of polling.

Tulsi has well over the necessary number of individual donations to be on the debate stage. To block her from on the stage, the DNC is looking to certain unrepresentative polls, which are slanted heavily towards older rich white men. Almost all approved polls are done by telephone and require the prospective recipients to answer their telephones. When the phone rings, most single women (particularly victims of past violence) do not answer unless they know who is calling. This eliminates a great many women from consideration. Minorities have been under siege in the USA and generally screen calls as well. Often the poor don't have phones. When they do, they usually have pay-as-you-go phones. When was the last time you saw a homeless person polled? Individuals in the military don't answer their phone calls when on duty. Tulsi will be out of touch with her campaign while deployed overseas. Older well-to-do people often have landlines that have retained their numbers over the years and they constitute an over representative sample of this polling. Surveys show that this group is more likely to watch the mainstream media, which has biased coverage against both Bernie and Tulsi. An additional obstacle for Tulsi is that the polls use her last name and her supporters are promoting her with her first name. Her last name is hard to find on her campaign literature. The gist of the misleading polls is that they make is falsely appear as if Bernie and Tulsi are less popular than they are and as if establishment candidates like Biden are more popular than they are.

In spite of biased polling and deployment to military duty outside the country, Tulsi remains very popular with crowds wherever she goes. It is difficult for her to arrive at an unexpected event without being mobbed by supporters who rush to the locations as soon as they get word she might be there. While Tulsi is on duty for her country, Bernie is expected to carry their joint message to his events. Crowds of Tulsi supporters will also continue to carry her message of peace to the public.

Good article, Henry. We don't know where she's going, but I hope there's not a lot of 'friendly' fire.

I don't know much about how the military works, but to me it's interesting that Tulsi should once more find herself deployed at this time.

I do find it hard to agree with this statement: "Tulsi is a strong supporter of the right to boycott Israel...", given Tulsi's vote in favor of condemning BDS (which has pretzelized certain would-be explicators).

Not to say that Tulsi is not a shining gem within a mess of mostly indifferent contenders.

A hell of a time finding this one, found it "disappeared" in one place I posted it in response to PCR--as I find happening more and more, almost always related to Zionism--but I think this is it, showing a critical deeper look, imo, at the non-binding resolution you mention click here

I believe it could well backfire, if it hasn't already. Still uncertain, but recommend watching and listening carefully.

Does it seem to you that Bennis believes that Congress objects to BDS because it fails to promote the two-state solution that Congress has historically (if fecklessly) backed? Can't say I'm convinced. Color me baffled.

On another note, Daniel, videos that one wishes not to disappear can be downloaded at www.downvids.net. Right-button-down over the video to copy its url and load it into that site. (What you save to disc could always be used against you, but with our every on-line act being vacuumed into the the Goveration's craw, evidence is always rife!)

Polls should be ignored and absolutely not counted for anything. Anyone with even one course in statistics or testing is well aware of the extraodinary difficulty of making even a half-decent/accurate poll. Look who's ultimately behind a given poll, and you'll see the outcome was predictable.

I was at first surprised and disappointed to see Tulsi go for supposedly two weeks. Particularly under the Commander-in-Chief she opposes and has spoken against.

Yet she has met with him several times. AND as far as I know he hasn't ever attacked her. May be wrong there but a little searching showed up nothing.

Not to wax biblical, but "By their fruits shall ye know them."

And my alternate version, "Because they are fruitakes, shall ye know them."

The Democratic leadership will never let Tulsi or Bernie have the nomination. Nothing has changed since 2016. The entrenched duopoly in Washington does not serve the public interest. Maybe people will finally understand that after the nominating conventions this time around.

Personally, like Chris Hedges, I'm committed to helping Howie Hawkins win the Green Party nomination. He's our last chance to deal with war and the climate crisis realistically without an all out revolution.

I like Hawkins position regarding eco-socialism (he was interviewed by Kevin Zeese and Margaret Flowers and really presented a great case, IMO), however I heard him talk recently, no mention of this important position that separates the GP from others, and little on the GP GND. Instead what I recall, aside from his arguments against NY Gov. Cuomo, was an odd attachment to Russia-gate as a truism in spite of the lack of evidence.

I would be interested in your thoughts Lois. Perhaps I missed something. I was less than satisfied with his manufacturing/union focus. No talk about how we need to find another way to live on the planet. (I wouldn't expect him to put it those terms per se).

I don't think we have any saviors out there. We must be the "change".

I also don't like Howie's stance on Russiagate. He's been getting a lot of push back from other Greens on that issue so I don't expect he'll have much to say about it if he gets the party nomination.

I agree there are no saviors out there and the work that ultimately needs to be done is up to us working at the grassroots. It would still be best I think if we could by some miracle get Howie elected. It would make our job a lot easier.

Lois and Art, I don't think even if there was a savior who somehow managed to get elected, they would be allowed to save this country anyway. The quote below is from 1974. I will make an educated guess that if in 1974 there was a de facto 'secret government' operating nationally and internationally and involved in the highest circles of the US government, exercising an impact over domestic policies and economics ranging between extreme influence to, at times, outright control, and that extreme influence to outright control naturally included the Presidency, then my educated guess would be that the current 'secret government' makes the one in 1974 seem like an adolescent in comparison and the control exercised today is much more controlling and virtually absolute.

"There is a de facto 'secret government' operating nationally and internationally and involved in the highest circles of the US government, exercising an impact over domestic policies and economics ranging between extreme influence to, at times, outright control. This extreme influence to outright control naturally includes the Presidency. The de facto 'secret government,' much of whose intellectual - and financial - muscle are to be found in the New York office of the CFR, the great tax-free foundations, and certain international firms and corporations." - Mike Culbert: article in the Independent-Gazette published in Richmond, California on June 27, 1974 in reference to his discussions with Charles Colson (a member of Nixon's cabinet) on the almost total control of US presidents by the outside forces. I am not a supporter of Gabbard, but I do applaud her for following through with her contractual obligations to the country. Her duty to country is her primary obligation which superceeds her political ambitions. I concur with the other poster here, Lois Gagnon, that the DNC will never let her or Sanders go any further than being just a pre-season candidate. The DNC sunk Sanders once before and it would take a huge leap of faith to believe that they won't do it again. Democrats can be blamed for that simply because they are all over the board and can't agree on anything except to beat Trump of they can't impeach him. It is highly unlikely that they could even make a good showing effort to even do that. Maybe in another 4 years. That is possible assumimg that their predictions of gloom and doom don't come true.

As a veteran myself, my hackles rise when folks spout the alleged "duty" crap they have to their countries. WHY is it, that only Military personal have such "alleged" duties when Corporate N.G.O.'s have none, nor even the scum sitting comfortably on their arses in Congress. WHERE are THEIR duty ???? Serving in a military that is basicly nothing but an ENFORCEMENT group on behalf of the U.S. Government to ENFORCE their self serving policies against people who wish to govern themselves for themselves, is nothing to be proud of, and God forbid, never a DUTY .

Therein lies the ROT that is at the heart of the U.S.

Going off on a National Guard 'junket' to Indonesia for a bit is a great opportunity to rehab her image as the great and honorable 'warrior' to some of her supporters who have been disappointed and concerned about her support of the anti-BDS resolution and her continual 'yes' votes for expanded military budgets which do nothing but expand the 'regime-change wars' she claims to oppose. Since she hasn't explained her BDS vote logically or adequately to anyone who's paying attention, now is a good time to leave and let the air clear a little.

Hi Lila,

I've listened to every explanation she's given, as have several friends, and none of us could make heads or tails out of it. It is full of contradictory statements that don't add up to a solid bit of reasoning as far as we can see. Going into the actual platform statements of the BDS movement shows that what Ms. Gabbard has said are misrepresentations of their expressed positions, so it would seem that she should do more research before condemning them.

While Kenneth and I were on the opposite ends of this discussion regarding Tulsi, I definitely agree with his assertion that she gave a horrible reason for her vote. One it does not address BDS because BDS is a movement not a negotiating entity, two that the two-state solution has been dead for years (in fact was a faux "solution" from the start to buy Israel time to settle the West Bank) and lastly she seems to have wandered into this vote without a clear understanding of its implications - since it was heralded as a win by Netanyahu and AIPAC. That's giving her a huge benefit of the doubt. Even Jimmy Dore an ardent supporter of Tulsi was noticeably shocked by her vote.

She raises some important issues about US wars, but these wars are for a reason. If you don't understand the relationship between the Saudis and US government than you are either extremely ignorant or deceitful. My sense is it's the former in Tulsi's case. Most don't know the tangled web woven by international corporations, the MIC and how the US world order operates since post WWII.

She's learning, but she's got miles to go in my opinion.

We all live in a detached world, one that keeps our wars isolated as it destroys land, water, atmosphere, and kills countless innocent lives (human and non-human). There is no "good" war. Her war on "terror" has always been a tragic trick. Terror has always been a tactic. How do you fight a tactic? It has allowed the US to rampage the world with total impunity. It has allowed our government to spy on all of us.

And yet while Tulsi is right about ending regime change wars, she's just as wrong about fighting terror.

They love losing as long as they personally get to keep their cushy status as party leaders. The money train will continue to roll along unless they allow a progressive, even a weak one, to be the presidential nominee. As the party mostly out of power, they can blame the "opposition" and sit on their derrieres for 4 more years.
