President Obama recently in a room of wealthy Liberal donors called out Progressives for wanting transformational change. He implied it was unrealistic.

Thus far, Obama had stayed out of the Democratic Primary Process. He should consider continuing said refrain as coming out as an anti-progressive will activate many progressives, who out of necessary pragmatism then, were quiet to his centrists moves that made him a much less transformational president than he should have been given his winning margin and his "Hope and Change" narrative.

The imagined visuals of the following from the New York Times are bad enough.

Yet, he also raised concerns about some of the liberal ideas being promoted by some candidates, citing health care and immigration as issues where the proposals may have gone further than public opinion.

While Mr. Obama did not single out any specific primary candidate or policy proposal, he cautioned that the universe of voters that could support a Democratic candidate Democrats, independents and moderate Republicans are not driven by the same views reflected on "certain left-leaning Twitter feeds" or "the activist wing of our party."

"Even as we push the envelope and we are bold in our vision we also have to be rooted in reality," Mr. Obama said. "The average American doesn't think we have to completely tear down the system and remake it.

"The comments marked an extraordinary entrance into the primary contest by the former president, who has been careful to avoid even the appearance of influencing the direction of the race.

His remarks offered an implicit critique of Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, who have urged voters to embrace "political revolution" and "big, structural change," as well as proposals once widely considered to be left to the liberal fringes of the party, including court packing and decriminalizing illegal border crossings.

If being on the fringe means following international law, and providing the American people the social safety net they say they want according to every poll, then we accept the moniker. It speaks to our values.

President Obama spoke about Ronald Reagan as a transformational president. He was absolutely correct. Reagan came into power with a bold and aggressive agenda and he implemented it. Only after passing his bold agenda did he later compromise at the edges. I discuss this in detail in my book "As I See It: Class Warfare the Only Resort To Right Wing Doom."

The Republicans wanted a multitrillion-dollar tax cut for the wealthy. We all knew it would blow the budget. Where were the centrists hammering as they are the sensible progressive policy now? Where were the wealthy liberal donors?

We are living with the disaster created by the last transformational president we had, Ronald Reagan, that not even "Hope & Change" could correct. What we need is a transformational president that won't cower to Wall Street, to the Plutocracy. We need a president who remembers there is still one person one vote and that earning one's vote includes intellectual nurturing.

No Hope No Change NObama nauseates me as much, if not more, than trump does.

He is THE reason why we have trump by doing absolutely nothing to help working people for 8 wasted years, which trump exploited perfectly.

And now he's out there attacking progressives and progressive ideas to support more centrist, worthless Republicrats like himself which will spell disaster for the 99%, again, in 2020.

If status quo isn't massively shaken up from systemic change for the common good, we are doomed--just like the drug addict is doomed from his habit of more and more drugs. Unregulated capitalism is a drug. Just keep doing what we're doing to keep getting what we're getting.

Egoberto, I agree with your take on Obama completely, but you say it much more diplomatically than I would or could. Imagine what might have happened if Obama had fulfilled his Hope and Change message by supporting Single payer instead of the insurance company designed ACA?

It amazes me that the leadership of the Democratic Party, after 10 years of losing a 1000 state house seats, the Senate, the House, The White House, the Supreme Court, all due to their "moderate" policies which effectively abandoned the working class, still have the audacity to preach to the Party's base about continuing to vote for moderate candidates. When will they ever learn?

Probably never, which means we need to build a new party that actually represents ordinary people.

There was a very telling photo of Obama laughing and back-slapping W Bush right after O's inauguration.

From the get-go those of us paying attention knew he would never prosecute Cheney/Bush et al for war crimes. Instead he became a war criminal himself carrying out mass murder and serial killings with his secret drone program. And who signed the NDAA stripping the rest of what little rights we had left after Cheney rammed thru the PATRIOT ACT? Obama. Who struck a deal behind closed doors with Big Pharma to take universal health care off the table with his stinking '(un) Affordable Health Care Act--Obama. Who whored himself repeatedly, giving the rabid right obstructionists every single thing they demanded for 8 years? Obama. His mother was a CIA operative and he was recruited in college. He needs to spend the rest of his life in prison with the rest at the top who've committed treason. HE'S ALWAYS BEEN A RABID RIGHT ENABLER--WITH A FAKE PROGRESSIVE PUBLIC PERSONA!

The US Ruling Power Elite cleverly used the politics of race to install Obama so that he could lull the people (especially Democrats) and get away with doing things the Republicans couldn't accomplish for years---like deep-sixing single-payer health insurance, doubling the national debt, expanding the phony 'war on terror', bombing or invading seven countries, weekly meetings where he decides who to assassinate by drone, bailing out the criminal banks at taxpayers' expense, and so on and so forth. Obama was the poison Kool-Aid that destroyed the Democratic Party and made Trump possible. Trump is in many ways a continuation of the Obama policies, but with a loud mouth and the mask off.

Most Democrat voters are so dumb, if Michelle Obama entered the 2020 race they would vote for her to put the CIA-created imposter/usurper back in the White House.

None of the 2020 Democratic candidates for president supports dismantling the costly US Empire with its roughly 1000 military bases, outposts and affiliated torture centers in over 150 nations; none of them supports a great reduction of the military budget, or urgently needed global nuclear disarmament, or conversion of the US Permanent War Economy to a peacetime economy that serves human needs of the ordinary person. All of this, of course, would be necessary if the so-called "progressive" Democrats were to carry out their promises like a Green New Deal or cancelling college debt. All of them are power-hungry hypocrites and poseurs at best.

I completely agree that he is wrong as are all the corporate Dems who are rapidly becoming the minority in the democratic party. They need only to pay attention to the campaigns of democrats who are defeating republicans in largely red states and districts to know which policies work and what doesn't. Almost makes me think those who continue with this "centrist" rhetoric don't really want the democratic party to continue, or at least not a FDR/JFK party. Being a centrist these days means going with the majority of Americans and progressives do that as the polls show. Why they continue to push these lies are beyond me.
