Joe Biden has finally officially thrown his hat in the ring.

I don't see him as a strong, wise leader.

I see him as a long lingering corporate tool, a fake liberal, certainly not a progressive. He is the 2020 neoliberal candidate the DNC leadership really wants.

Daenerys Targaryen, the Dragon Queen, in Game of Thrones says she chose Tyrion to be her "hand" because he was good, intelligent and ruthless when he had to be." Joe Biden has a history of ruthlessness-- betraying college students, betraying Anita Hill, betraying unions. He is not a man to be trusted AT ALL with any progressive promises he utters in his effort to compete with the actual progressive candidates already in the field.

Biden has been leading Bernie Sanders in most polls, but his lead, according to OEN poll analyst Jerry Policoff, has been declining.

As far as his video goes. In Yiddish, my mother would have called it schmaltz-- i.e., chicken fat. You'd put it on stuff to add texture and flavor to something bland. Biden offers no policy and uses pictures of world war two, and MLK to present an image of patriotism. But he is no leader and his history is not a history of greatness. It is a history of bumfuckery, of cloddish, oafish, sloppy messes that he's had to clean up. He's a great guy to have a beer with, but he is not the strong principled leader we need now. He has too many high-powered friends he owes too many favors to. Look at his fundraiser he's doing today in Philly, with a major Comcast donor-- Comcast, one of the companies that opposes net neutrality. He oozes connections to the exact people and organizations we need to get OUT of power.

And what about that Botox smooth face of his?

What are your thoughts about Biden's entry into the race?

Biden is part of the problem. There is no way he's going to provide any kind of meaningful solution to the extreme corruption that is overwhelming Washington D.C.

America needs a President who is an elderly white guy, who may have problems with his mind/brain. A President who commits verbal gaffes in public and get all creepy around women. A President in thrall to rich corporations and donors - and maintain Perpetual War.

Seriously? Democrats want Trump-Lite?

Biden quite obviously "prides himself" in "working across the aisle" with Republicans - exactly what's not needed in a Democrat President with a super Democrat majority congress. #SloopyLaunch.

Should a President Biden ever be facing a Republican Majority Congress his experience "will come in handy" - "cave in" to the Republicans on everything, and especially "give praise and compliments" to the Republicans (Rep Fred Upton (R-MI) - "one of the finest guys I've ever worked with"), and be rewarded with a "nifty stipend" speaking fee ($300,000?) come election time - Rep Upton beat his Democrat opponent in 2016.

So, what's with this Biden creep?

I see him being presented as some sort of "saint" by all the faux left media circles, yet he's obviously guilty of behaviour that should at least have MeToo all over him. He's like this false priest that spins some biblical yarn while completely probing your teenage daughter in front of you.

And, he's obviously the one being set up as the winner. He gets a really favourable poll rating BEFORE even entering the race, while Tulsi Gabbard is consistently "missing" in the same polls?! (Shows you how corrupt the polling process is.)

Something tells me this election is going to be even more rigged than the last one.

He has way too much baggage to even make it to the finish line. Remember what Sanders did to Hillary back when no one had even heard of him? In fact, Biden is already history (see the new CNN Poll with Sanders their new #1 Democratic Candidate.)

I agree, he shouldn't make it. But, there's obviously a concerted effort to push him to the top. The fixed polls, the "late entry" drama (marketing ploy), the favourable media promotion, etc.

Sanders may be "ahead" (according to these farcical "polls"), but he's not safe from the DNC and a repeat of the same tactics used against him last time.

You have to ask yourself how Biden made #2 BEFORE even announcing his candidacy, and why candidates like Tulsi Gabbard are not even "listed". These are red flags few people seem to notice.

Tulsi has been consistently "missing" from most of these "polls". No tomfoolery going on there, eh?!

The polls are false narratives used to spin the corporatist neoliberal agenda. You can't include someone in the polls who isn't running (Joe, up until today), while omitting someone who is (Tulsi).

What do I think? That the eventual nominee is going to be, if not him, someone like him.

From my conversations with center and left of center friends, as well as perusal of MSM, people are much too nervous about the prospect of four more years of Trump. One conservative I know would be fine with Biden. Only the left-est of progressives (like here) will sit it out or vote third party, the rest will come around.

I'm not saying I like it, just nodding to reality.

My #1 gripe against Biden, as against HRC before him, is his support for the Iraq war.

This "anyone but Bernie" mentality on the part of the DNC will ensure four more years of Trump. The fact that they are willing to risk another term of Trump over allowing a progressive to run makes the Democratic party worse than Republicans. They've learned nothing from 2016, and the result will be the same. The definition of insanity...

It's not just the DNC it's scads of people writing letters and comments in the NYT and WaPo, if you read them, which you probably don't. There are lots of people, some in real life that I talk to, who would not vote for Bernie because they think socialism is dangerous. Brainwashed, I know. But then 35-40% of the electorate still supports Trump.

Then there are the people here who would not vote for Bernie because they believe he betrayed them in 2016 and he's just another tool of the MIC after all.

So there you have it, pragmatic politics 101. Personally, I think Sanders has great mass appeal, but you never know what's going to happen when the negative campaign sh*t hits the fan.

Yes a lot of Americans are brainwashed in regards to that "evil socialism." The former Berners who think Bernie betrayed them are similarly brainwashed; Bernie had an agreement with the Democratic party in exchange for them allowing him to run, and he had to honor it by supporting the nominee (Hillary).

WaPo is Bezos' rag and there have been many hit pieces on Bernie already. Bezos paid no taxes this year and obviously doesn't want things to change; neither do his billionaire cronies. They are perfectly happy to amass what wealth remains and leave the rest of Americans in the dust. The coup is almost complete, and I think this next election will seal our fate as an oligarchy/corporatocracy/plutocracy, whatever you want to call it. There's no way the DNC is going to allow Bernie to be the nominee, and the vote will be split like last time, ensuring four more years of Trump.

WaPo may be owned by an oligarch but I'm not quite ready to believe they fabricate reader's letters and comments out of thin air. And yes they publish hit pieces against Sanders, mostly by Jennifer Rubin.

My point was, and is, lots of registered Democrats who vote in primaries are spooked by progressives. Some of them are in my circle. So it wasn't entirely clear to me in 2016 Bernie lost just because the primary was rigged by the DNC, and I'm not so sure it will be clear in 2020, if that happens.

And the more progressives talk about crazy sh*t like reparations for slavery and voting rights for convicted murderers, the more spooked mainstream Democrats are going to get.

My 3 wishes for the 2020 Democratic primary are as follows: 1. It comes down to Gabbard vs. Sanders by April when it comes to New York (usually by then it's a done deal). 2. Bernie were as adamant as Tulsi about no regime change wars (though he has in fact said he's against them). 3. He had never self-identified as a socialist, democratic or any other.

To those I now have to add a fourth: he would rethink his position on voting rights for the Boston Marathon bomber. These issues should be of greater concern than that he made $1M on a book.

If the DNC hands him the nomination, get ready for another 4 years of trump - or pence if trump is impeached and convicted, tho not likely with the current Senate.

I concur with your assessment of Biden. He has had his chances already. Plural....chances. Biden is a tool of the CIA and he's a neocon. A little different take than John Bolton but the results would be the same.

The thing the Democratic party is doing is fielding so many candidates they can dilute Bernie Sander's 50% first round win. If they can do that, they can bring in their superdelegates and put another neocon puppet (Biden) into office (or at least that's their hope). Actually if they don't stop trying to control the vote they are going to hand Donald Trump another term. The people will not vote for a neocon again. It's a game of chicken we are playing here.

Rob, I agree with most of what you say about Biden. I disagree that he is a great guy to have a beer with. Like the Clintons, Pelosi, Schumer and the rest of the establishment elites of the Democratic party, Biden is a hypocrite and a liar. He misrepresents himself to be a progressive, just as Hillary and the party elites misrepresented her to be a progressive, a notion that only the stunningly uninformed would accept. Biden is just as repulsive as the rest of that crowd. If he should be the candidate I will not vote for him, just as I did not vote for Hillary. I will not buy the "lesser evil" lie of the Dems and will never again vote for its establishment candidates.

All the money I donated to Bernie got snatched by the DNC in 2016 after he "honored" his agreement to support the winning candidate (who cheated her lying ass off to "win"). What about his commitment to us? Donate again to Bernie? Nuh uh. I don't think so. DNC works day and night to assure a second term for Orange Mussolini.

First word that came into my mind was "YUCK". Biden is an old fossil, a blowhard and very creepy with his hands all over those women.

Why do these people keep on keeping-on?? Will they ever just go away?? Both parties keep recycling the same old people election after election. If the dems go all the way with Biden, then that's it for the party, as if it hasn't been "it" for the party for a long time!

And I totally agree that Tulsi is being completely ignored, or not taken seriously because she's anti-war. Many people don't even know who she is, or that she's running.

We don't need Russians to intervene in our elections, we're doing one hell of a job all on our own.

See my reply to Lois Gagnon below, where I point out that a Bernie-Tulsi ticket is by far the BEST Green New Deal ticket.

Tulsi's in many ways even gutsier than Bernie, but she can't possibly get the support or media coverage to win now. So it strikes me that the surest avenue to her becoming president is to insist on her as Bernie's running mate. She'd 1) help push Bernie toward a more peacenik foreign policy, 2) add someone who checks two important diversity boxes to his ticket, and 3) answer the argument that Bernie's too old; should he die or serve just one term, Tulsi'd be ready to step in.

As the two presidential candidates most hated and feared by the Dem establishment, Bernie and Tulsi are clearly the safest stewards of a necessarily anti-establishment New Deal.

Victor Tiffany and I are now seriously talking about relaunching Bernie or Bust, framing the 2020 presidential contest as Bernie's Green New Deal Revolution vs. the extremist establishment (seeking to defend a status quo that includes extreme economic inequality, insane militarism, and unjustifiable climate foot-dragging). Our name for Joe Biden is "Mr. Establishment," and under that label we intend to lambaste him relentlessly as representing the Clinton-Schumer-Pelosi enemies of the Green New Deal. In our rhetoric, "Green New Deal" is simply the new proper name for Bernie's political revolution.

There is no Green New Deal without slashing the military budget. Any politician that tells you otherwise is not serious about addressing climate change. None of the candidates running has come out and said so. I'm not holding my breath for any of them to do so.

The establishment parties are totally bought and paid for. I'd rather work to build up the Green Party for when people finally decide it's time to dump the establishment. We'll be ready.

Just because you don't hear from the Greens until elections are near does not meanWe are inactive. We are working hard everyday getting local candidates elected and are involved in activit activities on many important issues. We are up against a well financed imperial machine. If you want a better direction for the country, gent involved instead of standing back and claiming there aren't enough of us.

What the Green Party seems to fail to understand is that, unless it embraces popular national movements, it has ZERO channels of communication for convincing voters--most RIGHTLY skeptical--that it is a VIABLE political party.

The imperative--I'd even say moral imperative--now is to trounce Trump and Republicans in the 2020 election, replacing them with Green New Dealers. In fact, it seems clear ONLY sincere Green New Dealers offer a political program with enough popular appeal to annihilate Trump and Republicans in the 2020 election. If Greens don't get behind that agenda, which means backing the sincere insurgents in the Democratic Party, they lose ALL credibility, because they're willing to sacrifice all feasible climate action to partisan ends.

Unsatisfactory as he is on foreign policy, Bernie is still a cut above most Democrats, and I think the best CURRENT option for making him more satisfactory is to have Tulsi Gabbard as his running mate. A Bernie-Tulsi ticket assures us the most anti-establishment hands with which we can trust a Green New Deal.

That said, a reorganized Bernie or Bust movement would have a clear place for the Green Party. One thing we intend to talk about is how Democrats, by not allowing for Ranked Choice Voting, use Republican insanity as electoral extortion, forcing votes for their own militarist, corporatist, anti-climate party. We'd demand Ranked Choice Voting to destroy Democrat extortion and let people (including me) vote for the Green Party with a clear conscience. Right now, I know voting Green increases chances of electing Republicans like Trump, hell-bent on destroying the climate in record time. We'd urge Bernie-Tulsi to make implementing Ranked Choice Voting a high priority, so they can either get Greens into Congress to back the Green New Deal, or at least put pressure on Democratic Congressional candidates to support it.

Bernie supports Ranked Choice Voting, by the way.

Well, thanks for being on board with ranked choice voting. But you are wrong about voting Green meaning a better chance of Trump being elected. The Stein campaign was the only organization calling for investigations into the voting anomalies that occurred in PA, MI and WI. Even though Clinton was cheated out of winning in those states, the Democrats didn't ask to look into the matter. The Stein campaign did and it won in PA. Going forward, PA will have verifiable paper ballots, instead to the voting machine companies which are closely aligned with the Republican Party. This may produce a groundswell of other states opting for verifiable paper ballots.

BTW, I'll point out that the Green New Deal, same sex marriage, Ranked Choice Voting, and legalizing cannabis are all ideas the Green Party has been promoting for years, which Democrats are now getting on board with and attempting to claim as their own ideas.

Lois, again you are absolutely right on both economic and moral grounds.

A lot of people may not like what I am about to say, but I am totally against the "Green New Deal" and other nice things for the American people until they act and act-up to end the illegal and immoral wars and killer economic sanctions.

The US-American people do not deserve free healthcare, college and a living wage until they stop killing millions of people, destroying countries, turning once thriving cities into WW2-ish rubble, and creating millions of widows, orphans, homeless and refugees. The US people are responsible for example the Libyans being deprive of their free healthcare, free education and life-sustaining government services. Now the US is doing it (for example) to Venezuelans. A mere handful of protesters are objecting.

A Green New Deal is just ecological masturbation since the ecology is much more likely to be destroyed and unlivable from the pending nuclear winter. Recycling plastic bottles does nothing to turn back the Doomsday Clock, which advanced from 7 minutes to midnight to 2 minutes to Armageddon under Obama. Then the war profiteers, Clintonites, DNC and a corrupt media concocted a phony Trump-Putin conspiracy over the one and only positive of Trump: that he wanted to improve relations with Russia.

Now the Bernie Bros, Ilhan Omar and AOC have a cockamamie MMT that the US can have all the "guns and butter" it wants without having to make any economic priorities, sacrifices and limits. It is mostly re-warmed Keynesianism, which I am. Like Keynesianism, MMT has its limits. Even if it didn't I am totally against "guns and butter" on moral grounds.

The immoral wars will continue as long as the US-American people think that just because there is no conscription they can go about their self-centered lives without sacrifice. They have to realize that they do not deserve nice things while causing horrendous misery to others.

It may actually have to come to the destructiveness and death of war reaching our own soil before the US-American people learn to hate war. Until then, the US-American people need to fully appreciate that they have been sacrificing a liberal welfare state because the US government's priority has been the military, empire and war.

Thanks David. You and I are definitely on the same page as far as the total lack of morality by the USAmerican populace is concerned. Unfortunately, we seem to require a taste of our own medicine to learn our lesson. I just think that it's important to organize a progressive alternative to the Democrats for when it finally dawns on their desperate hangers' on that the Dems will never deliver them from the growing tyranny that is enveloping us. As I said, we'll be ready.

AGREED! Dennis, I agree with you almost always. In fact I cannot think of a single comment I have ever disagreed with you on.

The Democratic Party is a zombie that needs a stake driven into it soulless heart. The establishment must be behind Biden because what they really want is a second term for Trump.

Biden is Trump's sheepdog that will heard all but the most hardcore Democrats to vote with their ass and stay home or vote for Trump.

Actually, Biden and Trump agree on everything, even their sexual perversions.

P.S. Biden is oblivious that the age of consent to touch children is not 7. No Joe, FYI you cannot touch a boy, stick your hand down a his pants, or wet his genitals with your lips because he "gave you permission".

Dennis, They are not going to go away. And the Democratic Party will not die because it loses elections. The 1% pays its servants very well. The Clintons, Pelosi, Schumer, Biden and the rest of the elites who maintain the right wing stance of the party are there to get rich, then get richer. I see article after article arguing that the party elites "just don't understand" why the party loses elections, or something to that effect. They understand very well that they do not represent the interests or wishes of the people. They do not care. They do not serve the people. Therefore the party does not serve the people. The party and its leaders are enemies of the people. The entire system is corrupt beyond repair until and unless progressives stop buying the "lesser evil" nonsense and voting for the establishment candidates offered by the party. Hillary anyone? Now Biden. I did not vote for Hillary and will not vote for Biden. I have no enthusiasm for Sanders after he accepted the fraud perpetrated on him and his supporters. Then he insults all of us who supported him by becoming a cheerleader for the fraudsters. I have little hope or enthusiasm for electoral politics in this Country.

You are on point as to the agenda of the Democrat "lifers" who will continue taking the bribe dollars as long as the voting public blindly allows them to remain in office as they have the people blindly follow them as they blame the GOP for the cesspool our nation has become as it's much easier to point out when you are in the minority. Their real dilemma presently is they have the majority in the House, but there isn't much action to change things because of "those da** Conservatives in the Senate" as well as other attention shifters like the $30,000,000 Russian gate fiasco cover-up. BTW Mueller once again did a great job of cover-up with no substantive outcome.
