Today, I followed another story about our kids and their parents and teachers dying. Shot down and murdered for no other reason than they were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Didn't we all follow the show? So far, I can't find a quote from the NRA or pro-gun politicians about how people kill people, guns just sit in a dresser drawer daydreaming about massacring little children, or guns don't kill people, it's the ammunition or the banana clips or not enough security in the schools or dozens of other bullshit bumper sticker sayings. GUNS DO KILL PEOPLE!
I haven't seen too many politicians wearing their NRA pin and taking any money today, but I haven't left the house. This news story is a few days of fuel for the national news cycle at best, and then it will be back to the business of killing people with our Drones to take out a mid-level Taliban fighter. Our pawn shops actually sell more guns after an incident like this. Politicians will still refuse to have a fair amount of waiting time to buy and sell guns. Just a quick call to the FBI's Felony Unit to see if someone has a a felony or was just let out of a mental hospital, and you can still buy a gun the next day. What is wrong with this thinking?
When the Clinton Administration passed the Brady bill after the Ronald Reagan assassination attempt, really a bill with very little teeth, it was quickly squashed a few years later by the big bank accounts of the NRA and the bribing of politicians who only want power to accept their own bribes. This has got to stop and the only way to stop it is stop making guns so easily available to the crazy schizophrenic's or just just plain mean people who no more deserve a gun than Iran deserves a nuclear weapon.
I am just an old man who is on his last years of a life lived both well and foolishly. I am glad I won't be around much longer to see more kids murdered, shot down by crazies who want to be on the front page of Time or Newsweek and have their pitiful lives analysed and taken apart to be studied. But while they are studying his life and his families life under microscopes, guns by the thousands are still rolling off the production lines, polished up, put in boxes and shipped to WalMart or some man who will sale it at a Gun Show with no waiting period what-so-ever, or even a back-ground check.
Guns don't kill people, people kill people. It's almost enough to make you laugh. Almost.
