Reporters Without Borders: 49 journalists murdered in 2019, while the Committee to Protect Journalists has the total at 25, and I presume the differing statistics depend on how the deaths are classified.

William Westhoven a New Jersey Journalist put it rather well:

"Do you care? Then why are you silent? And why do you snicker when he says "fake news" and paints a target on our back? - In the past decade, at least 554 journalists have been killed worldwide."

The UNESCO Observatory of Killed Journalists is a comprehensive database and interactive map reflecting information continuously gathered since 1993 on the killing of journalists and comprehensively since 2006, and puts the total at 1372 since 1993.

Please see their map and their comprehensive coverage here:

Iraq had the most: 196

Mexico 112

Syria 109

Philippines 104

Pakistan 76

Somalia 71

Afghanistan 68

Brazil 48

Columbia 45

India 41
