Public confidence in President Obama has hit a new low, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll. Nearly six in 10 voters say they lack faith in President Obama "to make the right decisions for the country", and a clear majority once again disapproves of how he is dealing with our sorry economic failures (1).

Now, why do you suppose this might have come to contribute to Obama's situation?

Obama campaigned for openness, honesty, integrity, and compassion, giving the distinct impression that he had read and accepted Jefferson's high regard for these nascent Christian (before Rome) values. But, it is more than Obama's failure to live by the values that he defended in public. It is reasonably clear that he lives by these values at home.

But, in public, Obama maintains many of the fiscal and regulatory policies installed by the Bush administration. We ought never forget who created this global fiscal catastrophe in the first place.

We seem increasingly determined in this nation to leave the criminals in government and high places to live above human law and accountability. And, of course, they blame everything on their Roman "god". Religion truly is an abandonment of human responsibility, and the political right wing just does not get it.

One of the factors in Obama's fall from favor is his blatant disregard for what had been his base, the liberals and progressives in this country. He has consistently applied his politico type psychology to every issue, crisis etc., and he has decided to "make nice" with the the conservatives, the right wingnuts, and the former Bush-Cheney administration and their party, ignoring the hopes for real change, real accountability, apparently thinking, 'what will they (liberals) do? They can't vote for a repug'.

So, he has clearly chosen to play his appeasement game straddling the fence, rarely confronting anything (2), holding no one accountable, and surprise, he's pissed off both sides of the political arena.

So, has Obama gotten on the failing track because he has failed to live up to his campaign promises, or because he has failed to much improve on the Bush stratagem? In that latter case, Obama's sin in all of this is certainly not as great as those of the Bush-Cheney administration.

Even so, Obama loses on both counts, because he is now receiving the blame for what Bush and Cheney accomplished, mostly by following the Bush approaches to dealing with the crisis which Bush and Cheney created. Did and do the Republicans notice how little a threat Obama was and is to them (2)?

Yet, they still feel obligated to ram their religion down everyone's throat as if they knew not one damned thing about nascent Christian human rights, democracy, and the required separation of church and state.

Does Obama really still fail the Republicans when he fails because of his maintenance of and adherence to Republican approaches? Is this nation not terribly afraid, frightfully ignorant, and entirely fucked up - to the point of being devoid of new ideas relevant to a democracy, unable to even generate intelligent ideas anymore, the result of our failed educational system? Does anything still work in this sorry nation?

Do conservative minds in both parties recognize that they have transformed America from having inborn, inherent meaning into being a mindless operation which denies human meaning at all, not in one's work, and typically not in one's pay.

Certainly, Obama can not believe that the US in any way resembles what Jefferson and Franklin had in mind. It is reasonably easy to recognize that there has always been those who worshiped money and made every decision in their own best interests, in the name of an abstract supernatural god, to hell with that intellectual abstraction known as "the
People." Contributing to the People is the only path that we have to human "immortality" and those who will transcend us in time, knowledge, and humanness.

The difference is between seeing "the People" as being human, knowledgeable, teachable, and deserving of that much respect - as opposed to seeing them as gullible, frightened, ignorant, and exploitable in the interest of the wealthy. It is the difference between the values of nascent Christian human rights and the values of Roman-justified, greed-driven capitalism, i.e., greed.

We have been led astray by right wing capitalism to no longer know who we are as Americans. It is time for Obama to wake up, as it is time for all of us to wake up. Fifty years ago, no one in the liberal politic had any idea that the conservative politic would literally control this nation, whether in control of it or not.
