This is a fun, riveting, entertaining movie, maybe the best of the bunch.

Characters are well developed. There's a solid story line that ties in with real history, using real footage from the times, in a way, like Forrest Gump and Contact.

This component of the X-Men franchise introduces us to the early beginnings of the X-men, beginning in a concentration camp, ending with the nuclear confrontation at Cuba between the US and Russia.

We learn how some of the main X-men characters came to connect, how they developed their mutant abilities.

But, as my friend, Zombie fiction best-seller Jonathan Maberry says, it's not about the monsters, it's about the relationships. This script does a great job creating credible characters with meaningful emotions and relationships.  It also makes some thoughtful efforts to explore what makes people different or special.
