The worst thing Nancy Pelosi can do is move the impeachment to the Senate. But Mitch McConnell will probably prevent her from doing that. Yes, there's a way that he can stop Nancy Pelosi.

Impeachment is a political process. Donald Trump is becoming, everyday, more of an albatross weighing against the Republican Party. Impeachment hearings are exposing his corruption and duplicity to his supporters.

There is no benefit for Democrats to finishing impeachment hearings. The benefit is in keeping them going as long as possible.

Trump has proven himself to be a complete failure at delivering on his promises to drain the swamp or challenge the system. He has actually made things much worse, expanding the swamp and giving more power and money to the people within the system.

If Nancy Pelosi is smart she will encourage increased impeachment hearings, even having additional committees open up hearings. She will push to have investigations of Mueller's findings, included the redacted ones, and the redacted incomplete investigations.

The clock is ticking. The longer the impeachment hearings last the more damage they will do to the Republican brand, not only in the house senate and White house but also down ticket governor and state legislature races, even local County races and Municipal races.

We've seen in Kentucky and Louisiana the backlash to Trump. We've seen in County races this last election, Democratic wins, where Republicans were in control for 40 years. It is highly unlikely that Mitch McConnell will allow Nancy Pelosi to continue the impeachment hearings. The only way he can stop her is to force Trump to leave.

McConnell stop Pelosi and the accelerating Republican Apocalypse by working on the medical pretext that was set up this past weekend with Trump's emergency visit to Walter Reed hospital. Trump will leave the presidency with a Medical lie.

Because the Republicans will need time to open up a primary to select a viable candidate, it is still very likely, as I've predicted, that this will happen before the end of 2019. Mitch McConnell will do everything he can to hold onto his power as Senate Majority Leader.

Recently, Anthony Scaramucci predicted that Trump would be removed when polling supporting impeachment reached 70%. Already 70% of Americans believe that Trump engaged in impeachable Behavior.

It is becoming more and more likely and, now more commentators are beginning to predict, that Trump will be removed. Mike Pence will become president. It would be wise for Nancy Pelosi 2 start having Adam Schiff begin to investigate Pence, who will certainly be on the ballot as one of the Republican primary contenders.

I've become confident that the worst thing Nancy Pelosi can do is finish the impeachment hearings, at least before this summer, when would be extremely late for republicans to field an alternate candidate. If the Democrats can keep the impeachment hearings going through the summer they will cook the Republican party's goose. But I don't think Mitch McConnell, the real leader of the Republican Party will let that happen.

Does any Dem (read Socialist-wannabe) believe in our Constitution any longer. It requires divided government. Socialism requires one party rule. Are the Dems trying to overthrow our Republic? What is America going to become?

Haha. Very entertaining. Socialists are not communists. But right wing koolaid drinkers don't get that. And it is the Republican party that is pissing on the constitution. Trump and his team are traitor fascists. What does that make his supporters?

I love your posts where you invite people to comment and share opinions.

What disheartens me, is the enormous ignorance displayed, and I hear the Fox News, twisted versions of reality. Thanks for keeping the commentary factual.

As for McConnell, what he does to our Rule of Law is undo the role of Congress. He is detestable.

It is people like you who are unable to see the observable reality, of how the GOP is trashing not only the Constitution, but the ethics and values that once made US a place that the world admitted. America is becoming a place of great ignorance when people equate 'Communism'--a political system-- with socialism, (an economic one) or any 'social' policy that helps the people/society aka the COMMON GOOD.

Your comment is in line with Jordan and Nunez...unable to make a case they just attack attack attack...so boring, and not the leas entertaining... YOUR comment is scary.

Jeez, if anyone is trying for one party rule it's Trump and the GOP. For example, when Trump wants to build a border wall as a monument to his greatness and the congress won't fund it he simply reallocates funds. When "so-called judges" rule against him he ignores them and stalls. How many branches in this "divided government"?

Somehow, some people, have come to construe, "Of the people, by the people, and for the people" as some kind of socialist plot. What they seem to want is;

"Of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich." Now when our countries framers said that taxes and the Government itself were to provide for the welfare of the people as well as the common defense, it would seem reasonable to assume that they meant all of the people, how socialist can you get?

I agree that sending impeachment to the Senate is a bad idea, since it will only give Trump more paint to continue portraying himself as a victim of bipartisanship. I don't agree that McConnell is going to do anything about it. At present, it is entirely in McConnell's best interests for the trial to take place. If the Senate convicts, he now has President Pence leading his party and winning the nomination. If the Senate fails to convict, he can claim vindication that it is a partisan exercise since the House managers would have failed to convince enough GOP senators of the charges. It will be irrelevant if most GOP senators follow Graham's lead and say their minds are made up before the trial. To most minds, it has been clear since day one that many Democratic minds were made up about Trump getting impeached at some point. No one has been telling Democrats that a person is innocent until proven guilty. As for stringing out impeachment hearings, that will just play against the Democrats much better position to claim that they will get something done on the bread and butter issues if they control the White House and Congress. End impeachment investigations sooner rather than later and work on a bunch of bills that candidates can show around as what life would be like if the Democrats are given the chance.

But apparently can't bring attention to those 240 bills to demonstrate they are making the effort. It has been Pelosi's worst trait to campaign against the GOP and the horrors that will ensue if the GOP has control of Congress instead of campaigning on a platform of policies that people can look at and see what the difference would be. That's why she lost the House in 2010. Where is the evidence of all that work by the House whenever an issue is raised in a news article? Her fundraising messages have uniformly been about how bad the GOP is, never about the strengths of her own party. That kind of partisanship only instills fear in voters. It is not constructive and it smells of vitriol. She even screwed up the impeachment process by not bringing a resolution to the floor before the investigations began, giving the GOP one more argument to make that the impeachment process is flawed. Any sensible leader would have put the resolution out there first to make clear what was going to happen and how.

Kabuki theater, dog and pony show, Bread and Circus and of course Theater of the Absurd. There is no hope, there will be another outside force, be it a financially catastrophic event or of some other nature, WWIII on some level. Only this time it will not be a false flag and the chances of a Phoenix rising from the ashes is looking bleaker by the day.

I don't believe you feel personal distress for a moment of obvious events, not KV! Seriously, these politicians are the lawmakers. The entire legal system revolves around the laws they frame, including the constitution. To view impeachment for high crimes as a purely political process for political ends is to trash the foundations of law.

I didn't say Socialist were Communist. In Marxist theory, socialism is the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism . They are both founded on the idea of collective cooperation. (via Wikipedia definition, sounds about right). I'm in love with our Constitutional Representative Republic. Only flawed because humans are. It's still the best of the worst. If the Dem Party completes move to Socialism they might enjoy a few years of support. It won't take long to disappoint a significant segment of voters. With our accumulated debt we would run out of luck sooner than later. At 65 I'll be OK. Just glad I wasn't able to have children. Who knows, this might be the God-planned devolution for the 2nd coming. Economic, political and climate upheaval is written.

It's not just conflating socialism with communism but the assumption that capitalism/socialism is a binary thing, instead of a continuum. Democratically elected governments become more or less socialistic with the election cycles. (So we're a "democratic republic". It's a silly distinction some people insist on making. Of course 50 million of us don't rally at the Forum to vote on every budget item). If we were to join every other first world democracy and have a single payer health plan we wouldn't automatically become a "socialist country" and take orders from the leader of the central party.

We are already taking orders from the henchmen of the only party it is called "Iron Laws of Oligarchy". There will be a movie coming out soon on the take over of the NHS in the UK by an American model of the privatized health care industry top to bottom. Brexit is going to be the least of UK's problems, ask George Galloway he knows. We not only have Nero Fiddling but citizens dancing in harmony with their own demise.

So what's the point? The NHS is in trouble because one film maker thinks it, and wants money to say it? If you have links to articles arguing this I will read them. It's been acknowledged for decades even by the Conservative party that the NHS is pretty much unassailable.

Actually Maxwell I have traveled over thirty four times to the EU with extensive time in the past two decades to Wales, England, most of the UK, Denmark, France, Italy and the Netherlands in the past two decades. I also have accompanied others on their business trips regarding the NHS and other national health care systems in the EU. Obviously I cannot breach the trust of those in these regards but I can talk rather freely with my conversations of the citizens in these nations on the street. They talk openly of their social compact with pride and generally reflect an entirely different view of what you may see in the MSM here and abroad.

If I have some time over the weekend I will be glad to send a couple of articles regarding this topic that do not compromise others in my travels and conversations inside and outside of the NHS in the EU. I at first was not going to respond to your flippant comment but I assure you that it is no longer the third rail as far as the Oligarchy is concerned and you have to watch what they do and not what they say or print in the MSM of each country. This is not just an European matter and it affects the lives of all, perpetrated by transnational criminal cabals of which I have mentioned ad nauseam......

In regards to your query I am going to limit my response to the following considering my concerns of personal disclosures of private conversations and observances as well as professional knowledge and insight gained through my associations:

Despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson's assertion that the NHS is not on the table, Dispatches hears from sources with knowledge of the initial trade discussions between the two countries who question whether this is the whole story.

The price the NHS pays for US medicines could soar under a trade deal with America after the UK leaves the European Union, according to an investigation by Dispatches.
Monday 28th October, 2019 8pm, Channel 4

Reporter Antony Barnett discovers that "drug pricing" has been discussed in six initial meetings between trade officials from the two countries and learns of secret meetings between US drugs firms and British civil servants where medicine "price caps" have been talked about.

· Dispatches was also told that British trade officials have been warned that the subject is so sensitive that they must not mention "drug pricing" in emails but use the term "valuing innovation".

US government and its powerful pharmaceutical industry want the NHS to pay more for their medicines which are much more expensive across the Atlantic. They want to remove the UK's ability to block American drugs not deemed "value for money" and restrict our powers to allow cheaper alternatives to be prescribed to patients which save the NHS hundreds of millions of pounds a year.

According to research carried out for the programme, the cost to the UK government could run into the billions, approximately £27 billion, wiping out the potential Brexit bonus for the NHS promised by Boris Johnson.

Interview with Stephen Vaughn, previously general counsel for the Office of the US Trade Representative:

Barnett travels to Washington and hears how the price of medicines is a major political issue in the US, with President Trump blaming "foreign freeloaders" who he believes pay lower prices for US drugs, thanks to the high prices Americans pay. He has instructed his negotiators to make 'ending this injustice' a priority in trade talks.

In an interview with the programme, one of Trump's former top trade negotiators Stephen Vaughn said he doesn't understand what Boris Johnson means when he says the "NHS is not on the table"

Asked what happens when one side in trade negotiations says the NHS is off the table, Vaughn said: "Well that that really goes to the question of what the UK government means when it says the NHS is off the table. I don't know what they thought they meant when they said that. "

Until April this year, Vaughn was the top lawyer in the Office of the US Trade Representative and a key player in recent trade deals with Canada, Mexico and South Korea which saw the US win key concessions over the price these countries paid for US medicines.

Vaughn said: "I would expect U.S. negotiators to see what we could do in terms of getting increased access to the British market. That's what we do" I think it's going to be likely to come up because the US mentioned pharmaceuticals in its negotiating objectives"

Barnett also speaks to one of Trump's closest allies, Republican congressman Mark Meadows who says that drug pricing has to be on the table in any trade deal with the UK. "It needs to be part of the negotiations "my aim is to have pharmaceutical negotiations being part of any international negotiation. Why should an American patient have to pay a thousand dollars for a drug when other countries can buy the same drugs at a fraction of the cost?"

Rising cost of drugs:

The programme focuses on the drug Humira made by US drugs company AbbVie. Humira is used to treat 46,000 patients in the UK who suffer from diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease. For the NHS it is the single most expensive drug, costing £450m a year. Last year, the NHS started prescribing cheaper alternatives to Humira that will save the health service £150m a year equivalent to thousands of doctors and nurses.

Dispatches follows Ciara, 20, who's being swapped from Humira to a cheaper alternative for the first time.

Unlike here, patients in the US will not be allowed to be prescribed cheaper alternatives to Humira until 2023. Trade experts fear that should a trade deal be signed with America, then the US administration will force Britain to adopt similar policies. In recent other US trade deals this has emerged as an important issue.

Dr Andrew Hill from Liverpool University calculates that adopting the US system of drug pricing, could cost the NHS £2.9bn alone for Humira. Dr Hill also calculates that if the US government and drug firms get their way in trade negotiations, the total extra cost to the UK could be £27bn.

Hill said: "We're talking about billions of pounds...we've got to go in with our eyes open, understanding just the crazy amounts of money that are involved. "

Former Conservative Health Secretary Andrew Lansley thinks the Government should publish what the UK's negotiating objectives are and rule out drug pricing from a trade deal with America.

"Medicines pricing in the United Kingdom is too significant an issue and too important for us to maintain, for us to go down that path. The Americans have set out what their negotiating objectives are. They did that back in February. Actually, the British government should set out what our negotiating objectives are. It would be a start. We don't at the moment know what those are."

Government response:

In a statement to Dispatches, the Department for International Trade said: "The NHS is not, and never will be, for sale to the private sector, whether overseas or domestic""The sustainability of the NHS is an absolute priority for the government. We could not agree to any proposals on medicines pricing or access that would put NHS finances at risk or reduce clinician and patient choice."

Rob, the only issue I have is leaving office with a medical lie. Given the things pointed out by Stephen Fox and myself in another thread, as well as his increasingly haggard look and even more incoherent speech, there is probably more than a grain of truth to it.

Wow! this is the most precise and correct assessment and directive of this impeachment business yet. The Senate is as subverted as the white house and will subvert the house findings. Slow down this process to an hour or two a day, with plenty of spaces in between. Bring out every sordid detail of what happened, including all details of obstruction and the Mueller investigation, drag it out for months if possible but don't cram it down our throats, give it to us piecemeal and in digestible bits. Perhaps never give it to the Senate!

Yes, Trump loaded himself up with 'deferments for 'Nam' - he's not going then and he might decide to load up on deferments again for 2020. He may be 'forced by Pelosi and Schiff's long drawn out impeachment inquiry', exposing all things about Trump 'not to like', to take a 'deferment on the 2020 race' to the White House 'for significant health reasons' - perhaps, family members actually asking him once again 'why are you doing this'? You don't have to' 'You don't need this'? Leave now before 'the stains become permanent'. McConnell 'may throw in the towel' for Trump before the Democrats start voting on Trump's 'Articles of Impeachment'.

It is to the advantage of the GOP to drag out the impeachment as long as possible. This vacuous I-heard-she-said-he-got-the-impression-something-happened soap opera will distract from campaigning by Democrats for the primaries, will distract from the presidential campaigns, will detract from the free publicity other matters of actual importance will get, and will give the Democrats more rope to hang themselves on when the entire impeachment charade goes up in smoke. It's a foregone conclusion that the Senate will not impeach Trump.

Anyone happen to notice in this sh*tstorm of idiocy that with a rare show of bipartisanship, Congress renewed the Patriot Act? THAT'S what distraction is all about. When something gets beyond the gridlock of bickering, it's sure to be something which puts the nails in the coffin of our on-life-support democracy.

Thanks for the moment of clarity. I haven't bothered to comment on anymore impeachment posts because I see it the way you do.

The world is in flames with people resisting Western imposed austerity and oppression enforced through coups and regime change wars and all the media can do is cover this impeachment charade.

At some point the circumstances for a majority in the Western countries will reach a breaking point as well. It already has in France. All the more reason to install another obedient front puppet for empire who will carry out the same program domestically that is inflaming populations where ever the US intervenes around the world. Don't expect any of the presidential candidates other than third party candidates to address the disaster that is neoliberalism that requires a bloated military to keep it going.

reelection of Trump or total demise of the Jackass Party. What else? Yahweh can't figure out.

Who and what is really behind the impeachment? Are we not seeing the manufacturing of consent and for whom and what?"

Here is an insight into seeing behind the curtain that may well answer these questions. It appears that the MIC and its Oligarchy profiteers may very well be the source of political funding and influencing the true endangerment to the defense of the American people, their Commons, Treasure and Unalienable Rights much like the US never ending wars is doing to other nations.

Testimony by two high-ranking US national security officials, on the final day of the public hearings on the impeachment of President Trump, has shed new light on the central issue in the impeachment crisis: the enormous and protracted effort by American and European imperialism to use Ukraine as a base of operations against Russia.

"In Washington terminology, "national security" means pursuing the worldwide objectives of American imperialism. It has nothing to with defending the American people from some threat, nor, for that matter, defending the population of Ukraine. Rather, this operation is part of the preparations for future wars that would bring the two largest nuclear powers into direct conflict, with incalculable consequences for humanity.

Every member of the House Intelligence Committee bows down before this political objective. Republican members sought to defend Trump by pointing to his greater willingness to send "lethal aid" to Ukraine, including Javelin anti-tank missiles, although he insisted on selling them to the Ukrainians for a profit.

At the Democratic presidential debate on Wednesday night, every Democratic candidate endorsed the impeachment narrative, in which Trump is to be removed, not for his real crimes against immigrants and democratic rights, or his efforts to build a racist and fascist movement, but because he has come into conflict with powerful elements of the national-security apparatus.

Excellent points, George. We always have to look beyond the most visible layer to give context to the power plays which are really operating. Thanks for the valuable insights.

Now . . . what are we going to do about it?

I've tried harumphing. It doesn't seem to make much difference. I've also repeatedly called for Regime Change in Washington DC but it's dismissed as sloganeering. It's not a meme. I'm dead serious. It's got to happen, it's going to happen. The sooner we get organized and use non-violent mechanisms still available to us, the less blood will be spilled down the road. But if things keep going the way they are, we will either end up in the horrific wars with Russia and China you allude to, or the country will be torn apart by violence from within in an uprising that will only benefit vultures and other scavenging carnivores. Vultures are smart animals. They know to spit out the bullet fragments before swallowing.
