Plastics are chocking the planet. They're filling our oceans and filling our landfills. In fact, approximately 1.4 billion pounds of trash is dumped into our oceans every year. The plastic is killing wildlife. It's leaching harmful chemicals into our environment as they breakdown over hundreds or thousands of years. Since China isn't accepting our imports of recyclables anymore, many municipalities across the country are forced to throw away or burn the recyclables.

Manufacturers need to start using post-consumer waste recycled materials in goods or, better yet, to stop using plastics completely. I wrote to Sterilite Corporation; based out of Townsend, Massachusetts; asking them to use recycled materials to save the planet and ourselves in its plastic products. Sterlite's awful response was, "At this time, we feel it best to use virgin plastics for our products."

Manufacturers need to start thinking about our future and start trying to be good corporate citizens. Let's write to manufacturers that use plastics and make a difference for the planet today.
